My problem with A.I. art.
Posted 3 years agoI can't help it if people steal my work through AI. Art theft is just something that comes when you put your art on the internet. Besides, my art is hardly worth stealing to begin with. However, what really irks me is when AI art floods my news feed and it just ruins my browsing experience. Usually when I browse through DeviantArt. When I see a cool artwork I want to Follow the actual artist who made it. Not some thief who punched in some keywords.
Often times I feel bamboozled when I see an artwork that seems cool but when I look up the gallery it turns out there's like 15 variations of the same piece with a similar color scheme. Knowing that the elements were most likely used without the artists' consent just ruins the experience for me. Part of my enjoyment of browsing art is knowing that an actual PERSON labored time and skill into drawing/photographing/composing that piece. There was actual skill involved which often takes years to perfect. Punching in keywords does not an artist make. The only "artist" here is the programmer who made the generator.
So what I hate about AI art is the fact that I now have to vet every artist that I see before giving them a Follow/Favorite. It's such a chore which sometimes ends in disappointment. Before AI was a thing, I can simply give them a Follow/Favorite via the nearest button. I can no longer do that because I can't in good conscience follow a person who steals art from other artists. And so now I need to open their gallery first and assess whether there is any indication of an AI being involved. Usually sudden changes of art style within a single art piece or multiple art pieces in the gallery with the same layout/color scheme/theme (e.g.: 10 submissions of an anthro tiger in a SWAT suit with a techno color scheme from roughly the same angle with roughly the same pose, uploaded at roughly the same time). A lovely past time is now a sleuth chore.
I can't help if my work is drowned by other AI "artists". My work has always been a mere drop in a vast ocean of artworks made by artists more talented than I anyway. But my enjoyment of browsing other people's artwork is now ruined and that's where I feel discomforted on a daily basis :(

Posted 3 years agoAfter 6 months of grueling anxiety and depression, witnessing 2 heart attacks, driving my maid back and forth to the hospital, staying for hours at the hospital, hunting down various medicines, searching for far away apothecaries, getting insurance papers, and prepping medicine weekly.... I can finally say that it's all over now.
Today I finally send off my maid of 15+ years into retirement. It's been one heck of a journey. She walked through so many things with me from my mom's death, my grandpa's death, my turtle's death, the estrangement from my family, the pandemic outbreak, my cat's disappearance, a narcissist's psychological abuse, and so much more. Having lost my single mom, she has been like a 2nd mother to me so having to say goodbye to her was very difficult. I cried so much this year. However, in her last days of employment I was oddly calm. Maybe it was because I had cried so much along the way already. Then again, so many of you were praying for me.
It was such a brutal year for me. Physically, mentally, emotionally, psychologically, spiritually, and financially.
I've done all that I could for her. I didn't hold back. I took care of her like she was my own mother. I have no regrets. With this, I surrender her into God's hands and pray that He will continue to take care of her through the hands of another (vice versa). I hope that from now on my mental health will continue to heal and stabilize and therefore work on commissions more steadily as a sense of normalcy begin to return. I hope the rumored 2023 recession won't take too much toll on me, should it happen. I really could use a breather. But hey, maybe it won't bother me as much now that I've grown stronger.
Thank you so much for everyone who has been supporting me emotionally (and spiritually) in the background. You all were the extension of God's hands for real, for real. Thank you for being so patient with me. I hope I will be able to be just as patient whenever someone in need comes my way.
This chapter of my life has come to a close. A new chapter begins. I've had a new replacement for her, she has been trained for 1.5 months so she knows most of how we do things in my house. She still feels like a stranger but I hope I'll warm up to her with time as I did with my old maid. You really can't expect the same degree of closeness between someone you've lived with for 15 years and 1.5 months. Hopefully she'll like working for me too.
With this, I hope I will be working on commissions on a more steady pace like I used to.

My thoughts on new FA layout. What's yours?
Posted 3 years agoClassic layout will always be bae. LOL.
The new layout is similar but I find the Classic layout more legible... and symmetrical... and neat. The Modern layout always makes my screen look cramped and cluttered. But hey, that's just my opinion. A GAME OPINIO-okay, that's actually something different entirely. But yeah, I'm old school.
The banner feature is pretty cool tho. Always nice to be able to add more art to your homepage. And the dimensions match the YouTube banner so I don't need to make something especially for FA.
So what are your thoughts?

Should I open a WISE account to receive payments?
Posted 3 years agoAfter the Russia-Ukraine war started and the brief ban on PayPal in Indonesia happened, there have been more and more talk by the people around me saying they are using or planning on using Wise as an alternative payment method to PayPal. Now I have zero knowledge and experience regarding Wise but I think having a backup payment method is always a... wise thing (pun fully intended). However, the issue is whether my clients use it too because I follow what my clients use. So I want to ask you guys:
1.) Have you guys used Wise to pay for commissions? If you have, what is your experience using it?
2.) Do you think I should open a Wise account?
3.) If you have one, what alternatives to PayPal do you use to purchase commissions?

It's JUUUUNE! We're almost at the half way point. Time flies so fast, don't you think? This month I had to go on a retreat for 3 days making me 3 days behind on schedule so I've decided to close the 4th available slot month. Since July is Insignia month (a month where I work on my webcomic, Insignia, live on stream) there will be no commission slots available then, HOWEVER depending on the scale of the commission, I might be able to squeeze in 1 commission for in July, we'll see what order comes in next. My housekeeper got discharged from the hospital today. Praise the Lord! Commission progression will begin to resume again since I don't need to constantly stand by at the hospital. I'll still need to take her back to the hospital check-ups and such but I'll try my best to catch up with deadlines. I won't go full throttle immediately because my mental state hasn't recovered but I hope to gradually reach my normal speeds in time. I pray that there will be no heart attacks from here on out.
My apologies for the delay in filling out commission orders on time. Thank you for being so understanding up to this point. You've all been incredibly patient.

Heart Attack + Commission Slow down
Posted 3 years agoAs some of you might have read from my Facebook post, my house keeper whom I consider family just had a heart attack recently. I need to take her to doctor visits, doing emergency house renovations to suit her newly discovered needs, but mostly I'm still reeling from the trauma. I might also have to part ways with her which is very painful for me since she's been with me for 14+ years. She's been there when I lost my Mom and now it's like losing a mother all over again. This past couple of months have been hell on earth for me. Lots of pressure from various circumstances and this heart attack incident really tripped me into a pit of depression to the point where I'm getting heart palpitations and having trouble sleeping. I find it hard to cry which I'm usually able to do to help wash away the stress hormones.
Commission progress will slow down for awhile. My apologies to all my clients. I really don't know what's happening. Truly I've never had a wave of trials and tribulations quite as long as this one. It's been one after other since the start of 2022. And because I live alone, it's been hard to manage my job, this incident, while staying sane, let alone creating art at the same time. I pray that Jesus will help me get through this really tough season.
