A Difficult Choice
Posted 8 years agoI reentered the furry fandom public shortly after my marriage imploded in early 2016. I've been pushing everything in this direction since then, making art for the fandom I've come to care about, and working to process my journey through that. As is stated in previous journals, I didn't always do a good job of sticking to that. Nevertheless, this fandom has been an amazing home.
My life trajectory is changing, though. I've gotten a full time teaching job, I'm in a committed relationship, and there's just generally far less time to put into art. As such, I've had to make some decisions about where the time I DO have will be going. Everyone who's watched me here has been amazing and supportive. I don't think I've ever had a negative experience with any of you. Still, with so little time now to pursue art, I have to choose carefully where that time gets spent.
I won't be posting anything here in the near future, as I'll be concentrating entirely now on my Patreon project, Age of the Rabbit. The link is below. I encourage you to check it out. The first post is open to everyone, as will be some others coming up.
Let me explain: This is the story I've been wanting to tell for years, and now I'm finally ready. I can't do it authentically any other way. Why Patreon? Well, because I stick to things a lot more if I feel like I owe it to someone. And when I've got people paying me, I do what needs doing. Sometimes to a fault, or the detriment of other obligations.
That's another big piece of it. I could push for more time in furry art, but I'd be sacrificing the time I use to keep myself sane. There's few things as challenging as your first year teaching, and when you're doing grad school and finishing up part time work on top of that, it gets even stickier.
I'm really excited for how this project is going so far. The first two full chapters are up, and you can read them for just $2 per month. $5 per month or more gets you access to the art I produce for each chapter, and there's lots of other incentives as well, going up from there. But enough shilling. Thank you for your attention, and I'll see you back here in the summer, maybe.
Peace out, kiddos.

I'm a fucking whore.
Posted 8 years agoHonesty seems like the easiest thing in the world from an objective viewpoint. You just don't lie. It's easy to be honest with people you trust - friends, partners, family, etc. I've realized in the past few months, though, that I have had a very hard time being honest with myself. Primarily because up until this past year, I've never trusted myself all that much. This disgusts me especially because I've written a lot here and on my Patreon about authenticity. I made my tiny little brand based on it. And what have I done? I've created art for everyone but myself. I've made the art I thought others wanted to see. Frankly, I did this out of a childish desire for approval. For praise. I wanted to be a good good art boy. I turn 30 next month, and the fact that I've fallen into such patterns for so long (this pattern began in college) makes me so angry at myself.
From here onwards, I promise to make art that *I* want to see in the world, and not the art I anticipate others wanting to see. I make no excuses. There can be no excuses. When an artist tries to please others with their art instead of creating things that are real, they stop being an artist, and become a whore. I'm done degrading my skills and potential. I'm still open for commissions, but I recommend everyone sit back for a bit and watch what comes out so you have a clear idea of the new direction.
The people I've met through furry art have been amazing friends to me, and I can't wait to show everyone what I've got. For real this time. Fully and SOLELY me.

Commissions Open!!
Posted 8 years agoOk, kids. Commissions are now open. Again. Had to do some retweaking to the system, but now I've got it done in a way that makes way more sense. I'll have an image up soon, but a quick exploration of my more recent gallery will make it pretty clear.
My commission tiers are based on the amount of time put in. Each tier is $20. So, you can get a really nice speed paint for 20 bucks (insert your own pun if you like), or you can upgrade it to a little more refinement for just a bit extra!
Bear in mind that the less is IN a commission, the more refined it will be. Two characters sword fighting in front of a mosaic wall would be best given several tiers, but a portrait at tier 1 would look damn fine!
Also bear in mind that any additional characters will result in a 25% upcharge, which according to my research is pretty dang reasonable.
Don't hesitate to message me with any questions, or to see if I can render an idea you have realistically in the tier you're considering. As always, I don't yuck anyone's yum, but I can't accommodate requests for cub, sexual snuff, or the unauthorized use of anyone else's OC.
If you aren't in the market for my stuff right now, but you love what I do, consider pointing friends in my direction! I have a nice little following, but I can't wait to grow and do more work for more people. I've made some amazing friends through commission work, and I don't want that train to stop rolling new folks into my life.

Extinction-Level Busy and Comissions
Posted 8 years ago3 jobs and grad school. That's my defense. It's been a long, long time since I've posted anything here, but I've been DOING things, I promise. The hard part is that I don't want to post non-furry work to my FA, since branding etc. But I promise, more is coming soon. I mean more than anything, summer is coming, and that will eliminate everything but grad work and painting. Point is, I have very good reasons for not having posted in a grip, but you'll see lots more from me soon.
Also, commissions will be opening up with a very straightforward structure soon. My following is still very small, but has been so good to me. I'm hoping I can count on people to spread me around once I open back up. If I get to go to be at Anthrocon this year, it will be funded entirely by commissions.
Ok. Enough rambling. TTFN!

2016 and Its End
Posted 8 years agoIn the past day, I've done a few things. I've finished my MFF commission queue, started some new pieces that stand to be my best work yet, and I've added my first ever journal to my Patreon. I got to write all about art and spirituality, and how I believe they collide, for a group of people who believe in what I'm doing enough to give their money to it. It's still small, but the reality of it is huge for me, and the support is unbelievably humbling.
Also, in the next couple of days, I'll be opening up for commissions. It'll be open until all spots are full, but the total number will be fairly limited, since my day jobs start back up soon. Turnaround should be about a piece each week. Stay tuned also for some non-commission updates, and maybe a YCH in the near future!
Thanks for being here, everyone. 2016 has been a crazy, crazy year, more so than I can adequately express. The best part has been the community I've found here, and all of the art I've done. I've done more this year alone than in any other year since college, and certainly of a higher quality than ever before. Here's to 2017, and making it even more transformative, powerful, exciting, scary, and beautiful. Be well, my loves.

MFF
Posted 9 years agoHoly. Nanners.
I can't even express how awesome MFF was. It was AMAZING to meet everyone new, amazing to see old (ish and otherwise) friends, and WOW, this was my most successful con yet. I actually made expenses and a little extra, which was my only real goal. I might have cried a little in sheer humility and gratitude. Thank you to everyone who made this such an edifying, incredible experience.
There's a queue of commissions coming between now and the holidays, so expect to see some really exciting stuff! I'm SO psyched to work with these folks.
After that, I'll be opening up a new queue, so if you're itching to have something from me (or even just vaguely considering it), keep an eye out around New Year's!
I love you all so hard. Seriously.

MFF Meme
Posted 9 years agoGearing up for my first trip to MFF in Chicago, IL. This will be my second furry convention ever, after Anthrocon earlier this year. I am excited, nervous, and busy. So, to take a break from working, here's that meme that keeps going all over the place!
Who will you be rooming with?
RyanCarthage,
suunto,
crimsonleonore, her boyfriend who I am going to steal for sure this time, and possibly some others. I haven't stayed abreast of the whole list very well. But it's a suite, and it'll be sweet. Heh...
Are there any panels you might be attending?
Not that I know of... mostly, I'll probably be in the artist alley or going around looking for adventures and new experiences. That's what these conventions are about, right?
Will you be suiting?
Yes, I will be dressed as my persona, a slightly overweight man with a beard and shaved head. It's meta as fuck.
What is your gender?
Male
How old are you?
29
How tall are you?
6'5". But don't be intimidated: I'm a teddy bear and a half.
Can I talk to you?
Um, hell yes! My whole thing is connecting to other people. I would love to get into all kinds of conversations.
Can I touch you?
I mean, if you feel so inclined, I'm not going to hit you or anything. Use your context clues, I guess.
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
I'm always down for hugs, especially with strangers. Just bear in mind that I sometimes don't know my own strength, and have been known to pick people up during hugs. Snuggles... eh... I mean, context clues? But I'm going to shy away if you're just like... suddenly on me, and I don't know you.
How can I find you?
Walk around and look for the really tall hairy guy. Also, shouting Yarilo or Yari usually does the trick.
Can I visit your room?
No. I share it with a bunch of other people, and wouldn't feel comfortable making that decision FOR them.
Can I buy you drinks?
Who would say no to this? Who does that? Of course you can!
Can I give you stuff?
So long as you're not trying to trick me into taking something cursed by gypsy magic or some shit, sure.
Do you have a dealers or artist alley table?
I'm entering into the lottery for the artist alley. Assuming I make it through, then I will, and will be there every day I can. You can find me listed under "Yarilo".
Will you have art in the Art Show? General or Adult sections?
Not this year, but hopefully some year soon. Haven't tried yet.
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Just come up and talk to me. Direct, intense eye contact is usually hard to miss.
Where will you be most of the time during the days?
I'll probably be at the alley, if I'm in there that day. Beyond that, no clue. Never been to this con before, so I'll likely be exploring.
What/where will you be eating?
I'm poor as balls this year, so I'll likely be eating out of a cooler in my hotel room, or the granola bars I'll be keeping in my bag.
Can I come with you for food/fun/etc?
Whatever. If I'm going out with my group, then it's subject to their approval, but I'm open.
Can I take a picture of you?
WHO SENT YOU?! WHO ARE YOU WORKING FOR?!
Who will you be rooming with?

Updates
Posted 9 years agoThis site sucks to upload sketches to. So, to anyone who wants to see everything I do between submissions, like sketches etc, come follow me on Twitter YariloArt. Pieces to come soon. Again, won't say when, because every time I do, shit gets fucked.
I love you, children.

Prepping for MFF
Posted 9 years agoDecember is a bit of a ways off, but I'm starting to prep for MFF. I'm making new pieces, fitting them in around non-furry commissions. Updates will be coming more regularly, now that I'm no longer in a paperwork hellscape, and my work schedule is set and steady.
Commission pricing will be coming soon, as well.
I have three jobs, so zero shame on it taking this long.

Temporal Dissonance
Posted 9 years agoIt has been inexpressibly busy since Anthrocon. Most of you know that I've been going through a divorce. There's been a lot of driving, a lot of paperwork, and a lot of logistical nightmares. But as of today, I have my apartment, key and all, I have my things in storage for the coming transition, and now all I have is vending at a festival next week. I plan to spend a lot of the time at the booth sketching, ubless (gods, let me have thus problem) I'm too busy with customers. I've already made a name for myself with this stock of stuff, so I should at least be able to cover expenses.
After the festival, all I will have is time. A week and a half in my new apartment with my tablet and sketch book. So, while I won't be posting anything in the next week or two, get ready for an influx. I wont make promises about how much, but LAWD is it coming.

Anthrocon Wrapup
Posted 9 years agoWow. Just WOW. Anthrocon was my first furry con ever, as well as my first time selling in an Artist Alley. I can't thank everyone enough who was there with me, and who supported me through all the fear and trepidation. I learned so damn much, and found a whole new direction for my work. I definitely have plans to be at MFF, hopefully in the alley again. Of course it won't be as easy to make a power row there as it was with
deriaz,
journeyful,
carbontrap and
addark, but it will still be amazing, I'm sure.
Look out for a lot of stuff soon, guys. I've got some adoptables coming out for a flash sale, as well as a commission price guide. Not to mention the many, many new pieces I'm working on.
WOO!!
Also fuck you,
stigmata. Stop being cool. Jackass.

Anthrocon and Fear
Posted 9 years agoI'm going to Anthrocon. It will be my first furry con. It will be my first time in an Artist Alley. I am terrified. But I'm doing it anyway, because that's how you live.
A lesson I'm relearning (and life is just learning the same lessons over and over again) is that the best way (the ONLY way) to defeat fear is to remove expectation and desire, and focus on what you love. I'm a big believer that everything comes down to a dichotomy of Love and Fear. In fact it's pretty much the ONLY dichotomy that I don't think is utter bullshit.
So here's to letting go. Here's to bravery as a verb. Here's to what will be amazing, because it has to be.

Anthrocon
Posted 9 years agoSo! Looks like I'm going to be at Anthrocon 2016 in Pittsburg, PA! It's odd, I've never been to a convention for art reasons that *wasn't* in PA. Huh.
I've put my name in the lottery for the artist alley, and
Stigmata tells me it's rare for folks to not get in. So, if you're going to be there, stop by and say hi! I'll have prints, and I'll be doing sketch commissions. Stay tuned to my submissions for examples of the sort of thing you'll see. And if you see me put up a piece you want to see a print of, be sure to tell me. Even if you aren't planning on purchasing it. I want to make sure I have the stuff that folks who aren't me find the most eye-grabbing.
More coming THIS VERY WEEK. PROMISE. Can't promise anything in terms of new persona stuff. That got... dicey.
Until I see some of you in person, stay light, live well, and stare into the void until you laugh uncontrollably.

Authenticity and the Growing Concern of Raddish Mites
Posted 9 years agoJust did a webinar with Stigmata and Berbalang, easily two of my favorite people ever, and I'm VERY humbled to be asked to join them. It gave me a LOT to think about in terms of HOW and WHY I approach furry art.
I haven't submitted very regularly since making this account, primarily because I was dealing with a failing marriage and working 3 jobs, and because most of the art I do is not furry in nature. I'm multi-faceted, like the most special of snowflakes. That said, watch for my new persona, which is startlingly genuine, at least from my perspective.
The main thing I relearned (because life is a constant spiral of relearning the same lessons in new and deeper ways) is that to make good art, you have to be expressing YOURSELF. Not just your ideas or copying something in your own brushstrokes, but putting yourself on the page or screen or sheet music, or WHATEVER. If you aren't doing that, you're just moving pigment and pixels. And that isn't art.
I took a look at my previous submissions, and got embarrassed both from a technical standpoint, and from a general CONTENT standpoint. Keep watching to see my new persona, more art, and more me. I challenge all of you who read this to do the same, however your expression manifests in a way it can be experienced.
Live well, lovelies.

Sick Time. Broth Time. Time Lord?
Posted 10 years agoI've been sick as balls for the past week and a half. On the plus side, it's been my first week and a half in 8 years without smoking. Maybe this time quitting will stick.
During this time, I've done zero art. I couldn't. So you know what I did instead? I planned. I took ideas that I had half-formed, and I formed them more. I sent my ideas to friends and made my wife listen to them over and over until she hit me in the face with a bag of Halls. Now, at the end of this sick, I'm free of nicotine, and I have a whole group of ideas formed and ready to manifest.
I'm interested to hear any stories or tips you guys have like this. How have you (or could you) used downtime better?
