I've had a few therapy sessions to have a good place to discuss life events, including the losses of my father, mother and sister all in the last 4/5 years or so.

I'm having a difficult time letting myself feel the intense emotions. During one period of trying to I felt my brain feel fuzzy, and like, really tired. It was weird.

I function through life fine. I feel spurts of sad or something, but it's not a constant.

But I sort of feel like I am not mourning, and just avoiding it.

It's weird and complicated.

I talk about the facts.
My father died of fentanyl overdose. My sister died of complications with drug abuse and a heart defect. I have not gotten the autopsy report for my mother yet, but it seems like she likely died linked to drugs in her system and other health problems (she was really thin).

I feel like I keep the emotions out of it.
I'm angry at drugs and drug dealers, more than I am sympathetic these days...
But they still made the choices to consume. The choice of lifestyle. They knew and have experienced what life could be without drugs. But they couldn't escape from it.

One year after my father died, my sister almost died. She was in the hospital for the next year or two, in and out, until she passed. She deeply mourned our dad, I'm sure. My mother never recovered from the loss of her daughter.
My dad passed in August 2021.
My sister passed in September of 2024.
My mother passed in September of 2025.

It feels like a tragedy, and a domino effect of mourning. They fought a LOT, but they depended on each other, too.

Emotionally I don't really know where I am or what's going on.
I always imagined their losses to be a nightmare scenario to me. It's lonely. I wanted better for them than this. I always tried to encourage them to move closer to where I live now, because life is better here. But it didn't pan out, and now it never will.

We are back home. Things have been a lot.
My mother's eyes were closed, she looked asleep.. but I could like.. ask her questions and ask her to move her legs in response to yes and no. I feel I could see her throat move like she wanted to talk.

Her heart struggled for a while. I watched her gasp for air - she couldn't open her mouth, but i saw and heard the gasps between her lips - and and she felt a lot of discomfort just before her heart stopped and the doctors tried to help her.

She was so thin.

We made it just in time to see her. She passed away just a few hours after we arrived in town on Monday. She did not recover from when my sister passed almost exactly 1 year ago. My sister also did not recover well after the passing of my father a few years ago. It has been a cascading effect of tragedy and pain.

I've lost my dad, my sister and my mom all in the last 4 years.

There is a lot more going on. I'll be starting therapy sometime soon, the process is in motion. I'm sure I will need it. I feel very physically and emotionally tired.

I appreciate everyone who has left kind comments on previous journals. I read them every night and they did bring me comfort. <3

Regarding work, we will be back at it on Monday (tomorrow). I'm going to be putting focus on finalizing projects on Monday and Thursday, and likely streaming on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.

Around 7pm yesterday she passed away. We were able to make it in time to see her. She was so thin and weak, she was unresponsive... She could hear and react a little bit when I talked to her... She was very restless, but looked unconscious, it was difficult to understand.

I am now trying to come to terms with the reality I have lost my father, my sister and my mother all in these last 4 years.

My mother was transported by ambulance to the hospital this morning, and I was advised she didn't look good. So we are going to travel there. She lives about 4 hours away. I don't know how long we will be gone or what will occur. I can provide further updates as we do learn more.

But we still have to work. Because I work on an ipad, my ability to work is very portable. However, my ability to do NSFW artwork will be hindered because we will be taking my young niece, who we have been fostering, with us. I will ONLY work on NSFW artwork when I can be in a private location.

It will be a long car ride, so I do plan to open up for SFW commissions to do during the ride. Flavors will be driving and helping to keep our niece occupied during this trip while I do the work I can. However, this means he will likely be unable to work himself unless we swap duties.

I'm sorry for this interruption to our work schedule and any inconvenience it causes. I know Flavors had communicated with clients that we would stream certain projects today, and we are sorry it will not be able to happen. But we will do our best to keep updates flowing through journal entries like this.

Please do not feel badly that we choose to try to work despite the situation. I think it will be helpful to us mentally, as well as financially (because we may need to rent a motel room, etc.).

My mother's health is not well. I received a concerning phone call from her today indicating paranoia. She is disabled, and it sounds like she is almost bedbound. But the thing is, she resists all help. She is aging and losing her memory, and/or drugs are involved. I need to consider an intervention.

There are a lot of IRL things occurring right now. I feel there is a cascading effect ever since my sister passed away a year ago. Please bear with me.

I'll be pretty brief.

A year ago we began fostering my niece after my sister passed away. Recently things with her biological father have deteriorated and escalated, including him yelling and threatening me. He didn't want to follow the case worker's rules and wanted me to break them for him, which I was not willing to do. I witnessed this man strangle my sister some years ago and had to be the one to stop it. I understand what he is capable of with alcohol involved first-hand. I consider him a huge threat right now.

This is why we have not been active this week and I want to focus on security.

I saw an urgent care last night and they were pretty confident it was something like an allergic reaction and prescribed me some steroid cream which has been helpful. I woke up a lot last night with burning itching, my knees were on fire and SWOLLEN! The cream helped a lot.

I got a lot of cold symptoms, too. I saw a DR today and she felt confident it is a viral infection; a perfect storm of conditions really hitting down hard. I just gotta ride it out! Bless steroid creams tho, omg. Currently treating the hand hives lmao.

Work related; I have many projects just waiting to be delivered.
Since I'm unable to stream today I will instead be taking offstream commissions via submission. They will be worked on from Friday to Monday. Today I will be working on other projects as I can!

Anyway, it's April vacation for our foster kid and her family has been visiting so we're postponing streaming til Thursday and Friday this week! We're still working through the week on other projects, but it would be hard to stream with company.

We get a lot of people asking if we color our animations. The reason we don't is that the GIF file format messed color quality up a lot. GIF can only register a limited color pallet.
Coloring these projects would also almost double the price, and for that price... receiving messed up colors doesn't seem like a good deal to me. Does anyone know if there is a way to export GIFs without messing up colors?

BUT.
What if.. we export the animations as video? That would retain color quality.

I like FA's April Fool's update >:3

So doing animated YCH's has been really fun! Having multiple slots per YCH helps keep the cost down, too. So I am adverse to offering them as a commission type because the price would be much, much higher.


I had an idea.

What if...

- Person A gets the opportunity to decide the animated Multi-slot YCH sequence/pose.
- Person A would pay between $150-$190, depending on complexity. I am interested in them also paying a fee since they get to decide the pose (maybe $50), but I would like others opinion on this. Would it be fair?
- Once the pose is fleshed out, I would open up 3 additional slots for sale for the animated Multi-slot YCH pose Person A came up with. The price would be between $150 - $190.

I feel like this could scratch the itch someone might have for an animated commission, while offering the opportunity to keep the prices lower by making it multi-slot, so others can use their pose template.

To be clear, Person A's animation would feature THEIR characters.
"Multi-slot" means I would use the animation template for commissions for a few other people.



I hope that isn't confusing. What do you think?

We're going to become a bit more experimental with our commission offerings. :)

This week we launched an animated ych multi slot and plan to do a stream Tuesday and Thursday with open commission slots. We may launch one or two ychs, but we'll see.

If this is a successful format, we will try it again next week, too!

We want to announce a change to how our YCH auctions will be structured! We want to try a tier-based finish system that will lower the introductory price to our YCH’s, as well as give the customer flexibility on the “completeness” of their project!

Our YCH’s will now begin with a starting bid price of $70 for a single character pose, and $140 for a two-character pose. The price will vary for projects with additional panels.

And, for example, customers who would want their project flat-colored would need to bid at least high enough to reach the flat-colored tier for that project.

A lot of artists use tier-based systems like this so I think you’ve probably seen it used before! But if you have any questions, please feel welcome to ask!

 Lofiflavors completed the refunds of all sales taxes collected in 2024! With the exception of one individual who we are reaching out to.

You can see my last 3 journals for more details, but the TL;DR of it is: We learned we didn't need to be collecting sales tax on commissions, so we refunded those monies back!

Sales tax funds are being transferred into Paypal. This could take 3 - 5 business days, according to Paypal. Once the money arrives,  Lofiflavors will begin sending out refunds!

Good news everyone!
 Lofiflavors spent two weekends compiling a completed list of every 2024 commission we received and subtracted out the sales taxes. He has triple-checked his numbers and every penny is accounted for.

Flavors is planning to spend Sunday, February 2nd sending out everyones' sales tax refunds. He wants me to let you know that if you have any questions regarding your sales tax refund or if you'd like to know your exact amount feel free to DM him! This will be a lot of invoices and he is going to make an effort to get them all sent out on that day so no one has to wait.

Issuing these refunds will incur a Paypal fee, which means some of your refund will be lost to it. The amount lost will vary because it is based on percentage, if there is currency conversion, etc. When we charge for our projects, Paypal also eats a fee for every transaction. It's just the cost of using payment processors like Paypal. We are not aware of any workaround to avoid fees inuring.

We received an important correction regarding how sales tax is collected in the State of Maine. In 2023 we had email correspondence with a tax professional indicating that digital sales of goods, like digital artwork, are subject to sales tax in the state of Maine. We understood this to mean we need to be charging sales tax on our projects to everyone.

We've done further research and called another tax professional in our state. He clarifies:

"Based on the phone conversation we had this morning, the artwork you are electronically sending to customers outside the state of Maine is not subject to Maine sales tax. Sales tax is a destination based tax and is based on where the customer takes possession of the goods. If the customer receives goods outside the state of Maine, then it is not considered a Maine sale."

He said the same during our phone call. I just asked him to email us the same for our records.

As a result, almost all of the sales tax we collected through 2024 will be refunded to our customers. This money has been sitting in it's own bank account and is ready to be returned to you.

 Lofiflavors has kept detailed records of all of our transactions, including sales tax amounts. The only difficult part is that this will take time to send out all of the individual refunds. Because so many of our customers buy multiple things from us,  Lofiflavors wants to refund people in large lump sums, rather than potentially 10 individual refunds per person in some cases. This process will take a bit of time due to the tedious nature of it. He currently estimates this process taking about a month and a half because we can only work on it during weekends (our days off). If we can determine a way to speed up this process, we will inform you all!

Moving foreword our projects will not be subject to sales tax (unless you live in the state of Maine, it seems!) We're very sorry for this confusion. Digital sales and sales tax has turned out to be a very difficult thing to fully unpackage and understand; we definitely thought we were being responsible and diligent with our business and making the right calls.

But there is good news! As a result of our sales not being applicable to sales tax, our commission prices will ultimately be cheaper to the customer, too.
