Posted 9 years agoSo the con officially ended about two days ago and man...the PCD is hitting hard. Best. Weekend. Ever. And now it's over....
But, as they say all ends are beginnings. Got some new friends, Rudy the Rainbow Husky, and the too-cute ferret twins Oreo and Skittles from whom I've inherited a fursuit head refurbishing project and I've already been spinning circles in my brain trying to decide which direction I want to take with it.
Mostly undecided between using the "fur" material I have (more of a velvet than fur) to make scales, or the upholstery vinyl I've been hoarding for years.
See, on the one hand the vinyl has more of a "dragon scales" look and feel to it, it will give the head a cool texture, and I haven't seen many (if any) dragon suits that do actual scales rather than using a short fur/fleece material (so many fuzzy dragons). The downside to it, however, is that it is a fairly thick material, and therefore will add a not entirely insignificant amount of weight. Plus it won't "breathe" as well as cloth, and would have to be painted/dyed to the right color.
On the other hand, the velvet/fur is already the right color, very lightweight (in comparison at least) and thin enough to not really add much "insulation" to the head. But, then we're back to "fuzzy dragon" and having to figure out how to make the scales semi-sturdy so they're not just flapping in the wind, so to speak.
The second crossroad involves the eyes, and it's a two-parter. The first part is between "white eye" or "black eye." I know I want to at least attempt to make "follow-me" eyes, and I already have foam sheets in both colors. The second part is whether to do "humanized" eyes (round iris and pupil) or "draconic" eyes (slit pupil).
Heh....this is the sort of thing that leads to me having dozens (if not hundreds) or projects that never materialize, because I spend so much time trying to decide how to proceed that I never actually DO anything, and then either some other idea pops in or I just get sick of thinking and push it aside and it slips into the "out of sight, out of mind" quagmire.
So, any thoughts, opinions, and/or suggestions would be appreciated.
I would like to go back to the con now, please... "Con life" is so much better than real life....

Countdown
Posted 9 years agoSo..in just under 2 weeks I'll be attending my first convention. Of any kind. Ever. Furpocalypse 2016. Excitement, anxiety, anticipation, dread, and a whole slew of other emotions running through me right now. I wouldn't even be going if a friend hadn't invited me along and offered to pay my way. The financial aspect is one of the main factors in why I've never attended a con before. The other...is that my family and many of my friends have no idea that this "side" of me even exists. Sitting silently through that infamous CSI episode was one of the most uncomfortable experiences I'd ever been through (at least at the time). And they're quite convinced that that really is the sort of thing that goes on at furry conventions. So, far as they know this is a generic video game/sci-fi/movie/"nerd" convention. Because it sorta is anyway. That's the beauty of this fandom. It's rather all-inclusive.

New icon
Posted 13 years agoSo, it's been a while since I've done much of anything here. Still haven't done much art-wise or project-wise since the last time I uploaded anything. But today I saw my friend 
celpendragon upload an icon she had done, and I've always loved her style and immediately got myself pouty thinking "I want a cool icon, too." But I still haven't even settled on any kind of personal fursona, nor have I really gone through my old RP characters and drafted any kind of references. But then I remembered a few pics she had done for me based on my IMVU avatars so I shook the dust off of Photoshop and made myself an icon from one of the pics she made for me.
So, long story short: new cool icon courtesy of celpendragon albeit in a roundabout way. ^.^

Where'd they go?
Posted 13 years agoSo, you might have noticed several of my project pics have disappeared. Mainly, this is because I've scrapped the idea of trying to build that particular helmet in metal.
To put it simply, it was going to be far too much work, all for an outcome that would not live up to my original intent. I was hoping to make a helmet sturdy enough to withstand paintball shots, and while technically the aluminum sheeting would be more resilient than cardstock, it was still going to be too thin and flimsy to take more than a couple hits. I kinda figured this out while making holes for the rivets and one slip of the drill turned the piece into a curled up ribbon.
So now I'm moving on to recycling the cardboard (uncorrogated, of course)from various boxes. And the first project I'm tackling with this will be the forearm gauntlets. I've finally got all the pieces cut out, so hopefully soon I'll get to assembling them and there will be some new pics up.

It's a toss-up between teleportation and flying. Teleportation is quicker, but flying wouldn't have the same drawbacks. As Nightcrawler points out, you have to be able to see where you're going to teleport to, otherwise you might end up in a wall or something.

There are far too many to list, among them would be Radio, Click, Dragonheart, Stardust, Despicable Me, and many, many more.

Not really fond of most meats, and even less fond of most vegetables.

That no matter what I do and no matter how hard I try, it will all be for nothing.
Confession 2: Worst Nightmare.
Isn't that kind of the same thing?
Confession 3: Something you wish you could forget.
Quite honestly there are many passed mistakes that I would wish never happened, but to forget about them is to forget the lessons they taught us.
Confession 4: Best dream.
Being with my perfect match, although for some reason the dream always comes through a sense of feeling, not seing. There's the contentment of knowing I have someone who will always be there, but there is no face, nor even a body, to give any clue as to who it might be.
Confession 5: Favorite memory.
Looking back, it's hard to recall any fond memories any more. Most of what I used to think were great memories have been jaded by how things turned out, truths revealed, or just the passage of time. But the times I spend with those I feel truly care about me and understand me, I cherish those moments.
Confession 6: Worst experience.
It's...a very personal matter that occurred in the late summer of last year. Those who know me most likely know the story. Those who don't...let's just say if it ever happens again, there will be no reconcilliation.
Confession 7: Biggest pet peeve.
Generally speaking, ignorance. Especially when mixed with arrogance or obnoxiusness.
Confession 8: Something you're paranoid about.
Criticism. There are so many "voices" in my mind casting doubts and aspirations on every last thing I say or do (and in some cases, what I did not say or do, but perhaps should have). And it's made all the worse when around people whom I feel would be critical about something. More often than not I feel like every breath I take will draw criticism from sommone, that my entire life is under scrutiny adn the slightest mistake, or even the slightest deviation from the perfect expectations everyone seems to have of me, wil lbring the hammer down.

The sense of entitlement, self-importance, and general arrogance. Followed closely by what seems to be the polar opposite; when people feel that they are useless, worthless, meaningless, and generally garbage because they don't "measure up" to some unrealistic perception or expectation of who or what a person "should" be, although whether the resentment is towards the unrealistic images or the people who let themselves be manipulated by said images, I'm not sure.

Kinda ran out of tears some time ago. For the most part now I only cry when I fel completely broken.

Being with my perfect match, although for some reason the dream always comes through a sense of feeling, not seing. There's the contentment of knowing I have someone who will always be there, but there is no face, nor even a body, to give any clue as to who it might be.

Looking back, it's hard to recall any fond memories any more. Most of what I used to think were great memories have been jaded by how things turned out, truths revealed, or just the passage of time. But the times I spend with those I feel truly care about me and understand me, I cherish those moments.

More often than not I feel like every breath I take will draw criticism from sommone, that my entire life is under scrutiny adn the slightest mistake, or even the slightest deviation from the perfect expectations everyone seems to have of me, wil lbring the hammer down.

Followed closely by what seems to be the polar opposite; when people feel that they are useless, worthless, meaningless, and generally garbage because they don't "measure up" to some unrealistic perception or expectation of who or what a person "should" be, although whether the resentment is towards the unrealistic images or the people who let themselves be manipulated by said images, I'm not sure.

Kinda ran out of tears some time ago. For the most part now I only cry when I fel completely broken.
