Uterus-Out Day Scheduled!
Posted 9 years agoJust got back from the doctor, and I’ve finally got a date for my hysterectomy! It’s about four weeks out, so I have a little time to make sure the house is in good shape and try and get some more commissions done beforehand.
The stupid thing still hurts me all the time, so I’m doing what I can, as I’m able to. It will just be such a HUGE relief to get this all over and done with.

Survived Phase 1
Posted 9 years agoThe minor part of the 2-step plan to remove my uterus went fine yesterday. 
took me in and brought me home afterward. I spent most of the rest of the day woozy and a little sore, but nothing worse than what I'm used to dealing with. Still sore today, but it's not horrible.
They did a D&C (dilation and cuterage) where they sent me to sleep, and then went in and scraped out all the built up gunk in the uterus to try and get the bleeding to stop. It also gives them tissue to send to the pathologist to make sure there isn't something cancerous going on, or maybe figure out why my body doesn't respond to treatment. It just gets us a more clear picture of the overall situation.
I see my doctor for post-op follow up in about a week to discuss the results and plan the hysterectomy. If all goes well, I go back in 3-4 weeks and the whole damn thing comes out!

New inking/coloring video
Posted 9 years agoI recorded inking and coloring the ginormous tomb-raiding piece from my last stream, for the interested. Roughly 4 hrs of work (not including the sketch) condensed down.

Posted 9 years agoTalked to my doctor today, and we're moving ahead with surgical plans!
Looks like it's going to be a two-step process, a couple weeks apart.
Tomorrow he's going to do a hysteroscopy and D&C to remove the gunked up lining of the uterus to reduce complications due to bleeding (and also make sure there's nothing cancerous going on). Then 3-4 weeks after that, he'll do the full hysterectomy and everything comes out.
So tomorrow's a little one in preparation for the big one.

Posted 9 years agoIf I'm a tad more snarky than usual, it's because I've exchanged copious amounts of bleeding for copious amounts of pain. x_x
Painkillers aren't doing much for me right now.
I call to schedule surgery tomorrow, and I'll have my dates after that. It could be as soon as next Saturday. My doctor knows we've only got a limited window to get this done, and it has to be ASAP. Will know for sure tomorrow.
Until then, I soldier on.

Borked Uterus Going Away!
Posted 9 years agoGot an emergency appointment with my doctor today (because I've been bleeding for a month! Ugh), and he agreed to a hysterectomy! I'm so relieved I could just cry. My damn uterus has caused me nothing but grief and pain for YEARS, and NONE of the treatments or surgeries we tried have worked right.
Kids were never in the cards for me, and I'm totally okay with that. At this point, anything is an improvement from the hell I've been stuck with.
ADDITIONAL:
For the record, NOBODY gets to lecture me on what I am and am not allowed to do where my own health care is concerned, or question decisions I've made with my doctor. ESPECIALLY not pissant 22 year old boys who barely know me, and whose opinions and "advice" are neither welcome nor wanted. You don't have a uterus, much less one that's trying to kill you. You haven't been through the shit I've been through. You're not my family, and you're sure as hell not my friend. You don't get to comment on my life choices.
I have blocked the individual in question, and he can fuck the hell off.
I tried to do that thing women are told to do, where I laid out my arguments and reasons in a concise, clear, firm-yet-polite fashion, and what response do I get?
"Oh, I'm not trying to convince you. You'd know if I was trying to do that. I just think it's still a mistake."

HOW? HOW THE FUCK IS "I HAVE NO OTHER OPTIONS LEFT" A 'MISTAKE'?!?!
How is that so hard to fucking understand? Would you tell someone with cancer that it's a mistake to have the tumor removed? Would you tell someone with a burst appendix that they shouldn't have it taken out? The ONLY difference here is it's my uterus, and it'll kill me if left untreated. The only reason I'm not already severely anemic is I've been staving it off with iron pills. I HAVE BEEN BLEEDING CONTINUOUSLY AND HEAVILY FOR OVER A MONTH ON TOP OF MULTIPLE YEARS OF HELL-PERIODS!
So yes, I am ANGRY. I am a fucking RAGE BEAST right now. You don't get to treat my years of hell and a medical option that might finally, finally make me healthier again as a "mistake" just because YOU don't think women should be allowed to make their own health care decisions.
FUCK. OFF. AND. DIE.

Notes Disabled
Posted 9 years agoFrom here on out, I will not be using Notes for communication on FA. I haven't gone through all of my various documentation to remove references to noting me, but from now on, I'm going to ask that folks please email me (zannah@rainbowsaber.com) or contact me through one of the various messaging clients I use (Skype, Telegram, Google Hangout, even Twitter works) if you want to talk to me about commissions or other business.
FA's been okay for the most part, but with my much heavier workload lately, I NEED to be able to stay in touch with customers, and day or week long (or longer) outages are hugely disruptive to that.
So please! If you need to get in touch, drop me an email or an IM! My pinned journal lists the various places I post art and other methods for contacting me. I'm pretty easy to get ahold of, and pretty quick to respond.

FA Status Going Forward
Posted 9 years agoGave it a lot of thought, and got a bit of feedback from folks here, and there's really no reason to stop posting to FA at the moment. So those of you who like to follow my art here, you'll still see new stuff whenever I have things to upload.
I HAVE DISABLED NOTES ON FA. I've already moved my queue off of FA to Trello, and it's pretty clear I need to make sure I have a way to communicate with commissioners that isn't dependent on whether or not FurAffinity is having a bad day. I will no longer be using notes for art business. Being stuck unable to check on stuff for three days and not knowing if or when I would get access again really sucked.

Got access to my FA again

After several days in limbo, I've got access to all my accounts here again.
When it comes to going forward from this point... I have to admit, I'm not sure what I want to do.
I've held onto the idea that I can't leave FA because it's my largest audience... but I don't even know if that's really true anymore. How many of those 2700+ accounts watching me are still even active? How many are duplicates? I interact with maybe 100 people in any given year on FA, and even less than that on a regular basis. My pieces get about 30 favs on average and maybe one or two comments for the most part, which is about the same ratio I get elsewhere, too. Most of the folks I do have regular contact with also follow me other places like Twitter, or G+, or other galleries, or come to my streams, etc.
I guess what I'm asking is do you guys think it's worth it to keep posting art here?
I have my gallery backed up on FurryNetwork, and it's up to date there. I post on Twitter and Tumblr and G+. I don't use Weasyl or Inkbunny, but I'm not going to go into the reasons why. It doesn't really matter, I just don't use them. I guess I'm just feeling a little demoralized with all the shit that keeps happening here. Days worth of stuff deleted, locked out of my accounts for three days, expectations that it's not over yet and that there will continue to be problems... It's worth being prepared for the idea that one of these days FA may not come back from these sort of attacks, or what comes back might be so radically different it's unrecognizable, if nothing else.
Do you want me to keep posting stuff here, or are you happy just keeping up with my work elsewhere?
I haven't really made a decision either way, and I'm open to what you guys think.

Posted 9 years agoRemaining ovary is still covered in cysts. Doc thinks my hurting on the left side is “referred pain” from the janked up right ovary. Basically, the wires are crossed somewhere. There’s nothing on the left side anymore, but it’s transmitting the right side’s pain. Fun. Nothing to be done for that but take ibuprofen when it’s bad. Doc apologized to me for the state of my ovary, since nothing’s fixed it, no matter what we try.
I'm going on Depo Provera at the end of my current cycle. The nurse said it’s about a 50/50 chance of helping. Not encouraging, but I’ll take what I can get. Gotta exhaust all the “easy” options before we move on to more radical and permanent solutions.

...And of course, when I posted this on Twitter, I was immediately contacted by some random stranger warning me NOT to go on Depo Provera and linking me to a website that blames every problem under the sun on the stuff. x_x
Look, I'm not a poor, disadvantaged teenager. I'm not a woman in a 3rd world country being forced to take contraceptives against her will. I have literally exhausted all other contraceptive options to treat my endometriosis. I am well aware of the side effects. I've already soldiered through a 9 month course of Lupron Depo, which has some similar side effects.
I would really like to avoid another round of expensive and painful abdominal surgery, potentially losing the only ovary I have left, and being stuck on hormone replacement therapy from age 33 functionally for the rest of my life. If there's any chance this shot can help, I'm going for it. I don't care about sterility. I was never going to have kids anyway, and the rest of the potential side effects aren't a whole lot different or worse than what I already deal with on a day to day basis.
I see my doctor every 3-6 months about this shit. I keep detailed notes on everything I go through. I have discussed the implications with my doctor, and done my own research. I'm as informed as I can be on the subject, and it wasn't a decision I made lightly.
But of course, this is the internet, and I'm female, so the entire world knows my body and my heath issues better than I do. 9_9 Ugh.

Bad endo flare up, can't stream tonight

We did manage to get the new couch and a couple other things from IKEA, but my uterus decided to kick me in the teeth (figuratively) and my pain meds are doing nothing right now. I'll see if I can get last night's stuff scanned and posted at least, but I'm not up for much else tonight. If I get to a second round of Star Wars sketches, it may be Revenge of the Sixth rather than the fifth. Sorry guys. I hate that this happens.
I'll keep folks posted on what's going on. I'm really hoping today was my bad day and tomorrow will be better. x_x

Home from Vacation!
Posted 9 years agoNow I need a couple days to recover from being on vacation! XDD No, but seriously, it was a really good trip. and I had a blast, and got to enjoy ourselves and basically do stuff we haven't done since our honeymoon almost 12 years ago (not THAT stuff, you perverts =P ). Saw lots of sights, took lots of pictures, ate WAY too much food, and brought some goodies home to enjoy. =3 He's got the rest of the week off, so we're planning to relax and get some things done around the house. I have an appointment to get that broken tooth fixed on Wednesday (finally!) but I may do some streaming this week, depending on how busy we get with house-stuff. I will keep folks posted!

Switching to Trello for commission queue!
Posted 9 years agoJust for ease of tracking, especially since I get commissions across multiple sites, I've switched my queue over to a Trello board. This gives a nice visual representation of where I'm at, what's pending, what's in the works, etc, along with what's been finished recently. I'm still figuring out how it works, but I like the visual organization it gives me. Hopefully this works for you guys, too! You don't have to sign up for Trello to view the queue. It's publicly available. I think I have everything transferred over from the FA journal post, and I will be changing my links to go straight to the Trello board now.
Please feel free to ask if there are any questions, or let me know if I goofed on something, but it should be pretty straightforward. =)

New speed-coloring vid

It's their answer to Patreon. It runs along similar lines, where folks can help support artists and get access to stuff and cool things in return. It uses Stripe as a processor just like Patreon does, and if you have an account to watch streams on Tigerdile, the login info is the same!
I do also have a Patreon page, but since that one's adult oriented (and sorely neglected) I figured I'd build a Swaggerdile profile too. This one's limited to more general audience stuff like I post here, and it includes, at varying tiers, access to sketches and WIP photos of work I don't post elsewhere ($5/month), as well as the PDF version of my coloring book and assorted printable coloring pages of my art ($10/month, also includes sketches & WIPs).
I'm also trying an experiment by offering "subscription commissions". Meaning in addition to getting access to sketches and WIPs and coloring pages, once every full month you're subscribed, you get custom art drawn for you from the tier you pick (starts at $15/month), from sketches through full color 9x12 pieces. Please note that Swaggerdile charges supporters immediately when they subscribe to an artist's offered tiers, but pro-rates (charges less) based on how much of the month is left. Subscription commissions require a full month payment to unlock, but any partial payments will be added in the form of whatever extras may be appropriate (extra characters, background elements, etc).
I'm not locking new content behind a paywall, either. I'll still be posting finished work here and elsewhere that anyone can view for free. It's only things like sketches and WIPs I haven't been posting, and coloring book stuff. You also don't have to subscribe to commission me! That's mostly an option for folks who know they'll be wanting more art every month and feel like supporting me that way. I might add options for private streams depending on how things go. It's an experiment right now. =)
Health Update - More TMI
Posted 9 years agoHad my latest visit with my lady-parts doctor today.
I think he's starting to get as frustrated with my body as I am. u_u Every time we try the standard solution to problems like mine, it just goes HAHA NOEP! and does something else instead. So it turns out that, in spite of my meds, I don't have one cyst on my remaining ovary anymore. I have THREE. That explains why my periods are still so shitty and I keep canceling streams and stuff, and why my moods are all over the place. The cysts are doing a number on what hormones I have left, heh. So we're switching me to the strongest BC pills available for the next few months.
If THAT doesn't work, I get to try depo-provera shots, which are somewhat similar to the lupron-depo I was on for awhile in 2014, if not as strong. If that's the case, I have to be really careful about weight gain and bone loss, since that's how the lupron affected me. I just got all that weight OFF, so I'm not eager to fight the possibility that my body might try and pack it on again.
At least after watching me suffer through this for a couple years, including a couple of surgeries, my doctor's gotten pretty sympathetic and stopped asking me if I might ever change my mind and want to have kids (NO). So he's open to other options, including a couple of more minor surgical procedures to try and fix things (basically one of the things they can do is scrape out and cauterize some of the inside of the uterus so it stops making so god-damn much bloody lining). Preserving my fertility has never been my concern. I just want to be able to LIVE without periods that run close to two weeks long and make me hurt and bleed so bad I can barely move. Ugh.

you need to check out his stuff! He does really awesome traditional media work, and ALL his full-size pieces come with incredibly detailed backgrounds! And hey US folks, his prices are in Canadian dollars, so it's a SUPER good deal for us with the exchange rate the way it is right now. =P But seriously, go look at his art and commission him! He's really nice and he does amazing art, from fantasy to crazy detailed scifi and mechs and everything!
