Video game meme.

Day 1 - Very first video game:
Probably Tetris on the original Gameboy. Simple concept that somehow deep levels of manipulation. Kept me entertained for HOURS.
Day 2 - Your favorite character:
You know it varies for me, kinda hard to pick. All the TF2 characters have lots of charm and appeal. Dialog is always something enjoyable. So I guess the TF2 scout.
Day 3 - A game that is underrated:
Currently.... I feel that Rockband 3 should be more noticed. There is the standard way you play a music games AS WELL as a UI that teaches you to play and learn instruments.
Day 4 - Your guilty pleasure game:
Elite Beat Agents, and I dont know why. Probably the absurdity of it all XD That or the Yu-gi-oh games.
Day 5 - Game character you feel you are most like (or wish you were):
Gordon Freeman. Kind of a loner in your work and dedication but dosent mind too much if I work with a squad. Feel like a lot of people rely on you at times. Silent and serious with most people.
Day 6 - Most annoying character:
You know I would say I have a high tolerance of "annoyingness" but I guess I would have to say Otis from Deadrising. Those constant calls were a bit.... excessive... to say the least.
Day 7 - Favorite game couple:
The chemistry beteen Nathan Drake and and love interest is always a funny one. Kind of in a romantic comedy way.... that has action movie sized danger in it.
Day 8 - Best soundtrack.
Is it cheating if I say The Beatles: Rockband? XD But I guess for me its Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. I get good vibe every time I hear the sailing music. I guess an odd second would be the Advance Wars: Dual Strike music was enjoyable. Simple but enjoyable riff that portrayed each character well.
Day 9 - Saddest game scene:
Yeah, play Heavy Rain..... that can end VERY badly if you play it wrong or make bad choices.
Day 10 - Best gameplay.
To me gameplay say in game manipulation and how well you navigate and control in your world, in that case Im going to say Mario 64 (camera issues aside). But in terms of best enjoyability, Half-Life 2. teaches so much about story telling, transition, action and pacing.
Day 11 - Gaming system of choice:
Though PC cab have more capibility, I like the convience of a console. But as of now, the 360.
Day 12 - A game everyone should play:
Small list of introductory games, there are good to show new players.
Mario 64
Zelda OoT
Half-Life 2
TES: Oblivion
Portal
Day 13 - A game you’ve played more than five times:
I never really replay a game much, if ever. BUT I do come back to a lot of them. Probably the smash bros series the most. Im pretty good with the Earthbound characters.
Day 14 - Current (or most recent) gaming wallpaper:
You know I dont really out wallpappers much on my laptop..... something to think about I guess.
Day 15 - Post a screenshot from the game you’re playing right now:
http://thegamersabstract.files.word.....gameplay-1.jpg
Day 16 - Game with the best cut scenes:
Cut scene is a technical term to me, as some games have them and some clearly dont... and some clearly abuse the length of one. But I guess I would say the ones in Portal 2 were neat.
Day 17 - Favorite antagonist:
Glad0s, hands down. Dialog is GOLD
Day 18 - Favorite protagonist.
Gordon Freeman
Day 19 - Game setting you wish you lived in.
Rapture BEFORE it went to crap.
Day 20 - Favorite genre.
FPS. Just the perspective of it all. it dosent have to be a shooter per se. That viewer angle to me feels best. That or a platformer.
Day 21 - Game with the best story.
Heavy Rain. can have many outcomes too.
Day 22 - A game sequel which disappointed you.
Bioshock 2......
Day 23 - Game you think had the best graphics or art style.
Thats a tricky question.... becase those are kinda two different things. Crysis has the most detailed graphics. BUT I wouldnt say that is something a game can only have going for itself. Style wise, TF2.
Day 24 - Favorite classic game.
What defines a classic? I guess anything before the PS2. But I would have to say Super Mario World.
Day 25 - A game you plan on playing.
You know I have never finished Ocarina of time. I plan to when I get a 3DS
Day 26 - Best voice acting.
Nolan North. you cant find a game now a days that he is not in XD. Always puts so much personality in a game.
Day 27 - Most epic scene ever.
Ohh my... that is tough..... I cant possibly answer that. BUT the latest one I did experience was the ending to Portal 2. I dont know why some people thought it was stupid.
Day 28 - Favorite game developer.
Valve, hands down. THE best quality control out there. I honestly dont know what studio is more respected.
Day 29 - A game you thought you wouldn’t like, but ended up loving.
Im pretty capable of saying why I like and didnt like a game. So I usually know if I am or am not going to like something. But that dosent stop me from giving it a try :) I dont want to be a close minded gamer. But I guess the only one I can recall is Guitar Hero 1 when it first came out. Now I love Rockband (same company at the time).
Day 30 - Your favorite game of all time.
You know for me Zelda Wind Waker and Half Life 2 are right on tier.
I could go on and on why, but Ill summarize it. It that feeling of being in a big and wondering world. Traveling at your own pace exploring as you go. Each has it own gameplay differences. But they retain that pacing that I love.

So what are YOUR New Years Resolutions?
Posted 15 years agoMy mostly revolve around things I have been slacking on... they are as follows
*Save more towards me and my mate moving out to AZ. I mean we COULD do it in about 6 months, but it would be risking too much.
*I have been slacking on playing Videogames. Its kinda self disappointing to my self esteem. But I do know how to get back into it again. I dont wanna break away from mt career aspirations. Maybe the newest Little Big Planet will jump start that.
*Continue bodybuilding. Lately its been about 3 days out of the week. More time is needed toward my goals. That and eating more for the muscle gain.
*Productivity in general.
But Im a little interested in what you guys wanna change or at least start to change in the near future. :)

Who here works in retail?
Posted 15 years agoI have been in the grocery retail business for about three years now. Steady pay and the experience in handling people is in its own way rewarding, but I long for more. Retail to me means stability and learning about patience in the sense about how to cope with low point in life. Look don't get me wrong, I like the money, I like surviving in the world. But at the cost of dignity and precious time? I was much happier in high school probably because I took matters in my on hands about my personal initiative to get ahead. See retail kinda drains motivation for me. You almost feel like there is no way out.
I need to start taking initiative personal goals, but I guess one question I feel I should ask you with jobs is if you feel stuck and if so has that job made you feel like you cant escape or pursue things you have always wanted?

200 lbs! (and other news)
Posted 15 years agoA few days ago I did three full repetitions of 200 lbs on bench press! I have NEVER been able to do that in my life. Being a short scrawny guy all my life, its kinda a big deal, to me at least XD
So what have you guys been playing video game wise? I really enjoyed Limbo, and recently completed Dead Rising: Case Zero (Id say its worth the $5 for a little preview and a way to get a little ahead in DR2). And for some reason I'm playing through the first F.E.A.R.
But anywho I might be posting another Lego building picture in the near future as well as another RL pic update.

More weight lifting info
Posted 15 years agoI honestly feel A LOT better about myself ever since I started bodybuilding. Now I don't plan on being 200lbs or anything *laughs* but have that beefy look to me. After about 3 weeks of diet, weights and just plain ol making time for myself, it has really payed off. I am taking some supplements but nothing major (protein, creatine, pre work out, Flax seed oil, and multi vitamin). I have more energy and am just overall happier about myself. Anybody out there wanna share their work out or weight lifting stories?
Toy Story 3, New 360, and playing Oblivion
Posted 15 years agoBest.... animated sequel.... ever
Hands down the best of the series. I laughed and cried. With out giving spoilers, I humbly recommend all of you watch it. Its a movie for those of us who grew up in the 90's. Those of us who were always secluded in our rooms in our own little worlds as kids. Something to feed the adolescent adventure in all our minds. I cried at the end, I'll just say that...
The new 360 is a sexy beast. Well not a beast because it practically purrs like a kitten. That thing is quiet. Seemed like a pretty good idea since my mate's and I Xbox is on it's last life and out of warranty.
I'll summarize my thoughts on Oblivion I guess: I personally feel like Fallout 3 is an improvement of the Bethesda RPG system. I prefer the atmosphere of FO3 as it depicts mans struggle st survive while trying to maintain a mock up of American 1950's culture vs a kinda "generic fantasy" feel. But not to demean the vast amount of culture that is on ESO. Its just a preference in FO3 is all :) Both are excellent games.

f5 for cuteness
Posted 15 years agoSo games are on the mind again
Posted 15 years agoKinda took a hiatus on my game journals to kinda think out life, but all is good nothing big or major. The good news is that I starting to get more assertive on game study. So more game reports to come.
But summer is about halfway though and E3 is on it's way. With that in mind I can't help but think of the surplus of game that will come this fall.
On my watch list....
*Dead Rising 2
*Greenday: Rockband
*Halo: Reach
*Dead Space 2
*Portal 2
*Fallout: New Vegas
*Metriod: Other M
*Various Live Arcade and Indie games
*And I guess whatever looks good at E3
The sad thing I noticed is that there are no new IPs, it's 99% sequels. But I feel that sequels in the games industry are less "cookie-cutter" than what they used to be. Designers seem to learn more about the advancement of a concept over making a cheap buck. That could be my hopeless optimism though... Either way it's still only about half the year and the good stuff hasn't even come close.

Heavy Rain and and importance of consequence
Posted 15 years ago So I have to say it was enjoyable. I always felt there was a slight problem with the game industry making you feel too safe. With a majority of games emphasizing your "machoness", you hardly give your actions a second thought. Like in Call of Duty, your instincts doesn't have that careful approach because you know you can just re-start. There is hardly any consequence in games now a days.
Now in some ways that's not bad. A more leisurely approach in the industry is not bad but it's a nice feeling of vulnerability to emphasize emotion. Makes games feel a little less overbearing and it's a nice change of pace.
Now a little more about about Heavy Rain...
This was the first time in a while I was (more) careful about my decisions and how I approach a problem. Game starts a bit slow, but I feel it acted more like tutorial more than anything. The drama in this game is unlike anything else I have experienced.
Overall I suggest this game for those who defiantly want soemthing a little more emotional impacting. The amount of possibility in the game can add to replayability and if your one of those who need to know "everything", you'll feel right at home.
I guess my only complaint would have been some control issues in terms of physically getting your character from point A to B. But I walked away pretty happy from my experience. Probably more so because I got the happy ending. My mate got an entirely different ending probably because of our different approaches.
If anybody would like to share their thoughts on Heavy Rain, I would be happy to share mine.

Legos, my long lost addiction XD
Posted 15 years agoWell the little bricks have always brought some kind of creative atmosphere to me for as long as I can remember. It was always amazing how much potential they had. I guess it was my own little way I delt with stress as a kid.
I tend to favor the basic stuff. You know regular bricks, building cities, old themes, and cooky little creations. I once made a manual candy dispenser. But I felt the need to tread on some ole memories, and I'm glad I have. XD
Any of you guys still play with Legos? I was just curious as I tend to see the fandom be children at heart ^^

Your thoughts on Bioshock 2 (no spoilers)
Posted 15 years agoOne thing I always admire in videogames is the possibility of alternative storytelling and the variety of ways you can go about it. I personaly like it when the game tells the story with out telling it, letting the setting get you in the mood from what you see and hear. The first Bioshock shocked (no pun intended) and awed with it's unique atmosphere. If any of you played that intro, you know what I mean.
Not that the second one lacked atmosphere, but it certainly lacked that subtlety of creeping about Rapture. Less time to appreciate whats going on. And a heavy story involved game needs that. I feel like every game now a days has to become an action game. Not that I don't like it or anything, but you don't get rid of a foundation that established the game.
Overall it was a nice game, with a GREAT ending (I got the good ending, but from what I herd they are all pretty good). But I wanna know your thoughts on why you liked Bioshock 1 and 2. Or any game you think has a unique atmosphere.

Well I guess I should start at some point
