Thanks for the paper doll outfits!

It was a lot of fun, and my favorite part was where you guys offered up clothes for my imaginary talking animal friends. I'm touched, totally serious.
I may continue it here and there in the future - and if any of you guys make a paper doll of your own characters (nudge nudge) I'll be the first to offer up an outfit for ya!

Delay to stuff due to reasons
Posted 5 years agoHowdy, friends.
If you feel like I've been delayed in responding to your notes, or delinquent in art you expect from me, or that my correspondence with you has been unsatisfying... I have prepared the below list of lame-ass excuses that I hope you nod at without making any sort of twisty, skeptical, and disappointed facial expression at me in response:
1) My job (yes, someone pays me on purpose) is Health and Safety official. A recent uptick in the number of COVID-19 cases local to me has devoured much of my time and attention, including time I'd normally be devoting to my imaginary talking cartoon animal people friends.
2) I'm taking Master's Degree classes which average about 10-15 hours of effort per week.
3) I promised myself that I would come out of this pandemic better than I went into it. Part of that endeavor is a dedication to daily fitness, stretching, and sleep. I jealously guard those elements of my day, though I know that they also displace time I could be spending on art and art friends.
Finding a healthy balance during unhealthy times is elusive. Please don't misinterpret my diminished presence as a lack of value for you. I expect to be able to reclaim some personal time soon.
Thanks much for your patience. Normal service will resume.

Artist Shout-Out: Rat of the Darkages
Posted 5 years agoI'm a very lucky person, I think. I've made some exceptional friends here on FA. It would be tacky for me to list them all, of course, and I'd certainly never want anyone to feel excluded. I love all of you people and you make me very happy.

Your thoughts wanted: Badgernukis as a closed species?
Posted 5 years agoSo I've been toying around with the idea of Badgernukis (Bandit, Honey Pie, etc) as a closed species. It may be fun to see other people's imagination applied to my weird little hybrid animal people.
Thoughts? Experiences with closed species? Horror stories?
All thoughts welcome.

Your world or theirs? How would you wish?
Posted 5 years agoHello again, YOU PEOPLE.
Chatting with a friend yesterday about wishing our characters into real-world existence.
I would prefer to wish my characters into existence here in the real world. She would prefer to wish herself into her characters' world.
If you were granted one wish about your characters, and these were the options - which would you do?
Bring your characters into this real life, or transport yourself to their world?
I constantly daydream about having Bandi around to snuggle with ~ <3

I deactivated my Twitter
Posted 5 years ago...I had only 25 followers on there, and I'm pretty sure I've connected with every one of them in some other way. So there were no bridges burned.
I don't know what my expectations were when I created a Twitter several months ago; however, the experience I had there simply cannot match anything I could've wanted.
I'm not the sort of person who assigns value to the power derived from a large followership. Plus, I don't attempt to make money from my art, so I didn't need the platform for a storefront or anything.
I have a Telegram now? User name zoelnoone.
th-thanks for reading my journal, I don't have a punchline for this one.

People noticing I don't sign my stuff
Posted 5 years agoMultiple people have recently noted to me that I don't sign most of my work.
I don't really have a reason I leave things unsigned. It just never occurs to me that a signature would mean much on my esoteric, intermediate-skill level drawings of imaginary cartoon animal people.
I'd love to hear your thoughts on whether or not you sign your own work, what your signature means to you, and whether you'd recommend it to anyone else. I'd like to learn what I'm missing.

Working from home vs. art
Posted 5 years agoHoly fucking shit. Working from home has taken a dump on my art throughput.
I've spent my whole professional life trying to keep work and home separated as much as possible. That way, my work headspace and home headspace (which are two very different things) can be kept pure.
This week, I tele-worked all week. As a result, my home space became my work space and the two worlds have polluted the shit out of each other. It kinda validates why I tried to keep them separate.
For perspective, I know that there's a lot of people who have it a lot worse off than I do, so I'm not grubbing for anyone's sympathy. That would be fatally ignorant. All I'm saying is that I'm gonna need to figure out how to build at-home barriers that allow me to succeed at both my totally legitimate job and my totally not-legitimate love for raunchy cartoon animal people.

Mini hiatus, paused collaborations, avoiding negativity :3
Posted 6 years agoHey there! I've been away for a little while because reasons.
I'll be doing exclusively personal art for a little bit before I get back into collaborative stuff. I've already PM'd the people I know I have outstanding collaborations with. Please be patient, normal service will resume once I've gotten my momentum back.
Been feeling overwhelmed with negativity recently. I may be unreceptive to negativity for a while while I get my head straight ~ <3
Note me here or wherever we're connected if you have any questions! Happy December!

It's not a closet, it's a shark cage
Posted 6 years ago...and I don't mean a cage full of sharks. I mean a cage full of YOU, and the sharks are swimming around you.
A closet implies somewhere dark, safe, and hidden; however, those do not feel accurate to me.
The sharks can see me and smell me. I'm not hidden. I'd be a fool to think people don't recognize the little coping mechanisms and methods of relief I use in order to keep my insides from exploding my outsides. I catch plenty of side-eyes, I hear whispers. They know. I'm a terrible liar. The desire for people to KNOW me sifts through all my facades used to make sure people DON'T know me.
Leaving a closet is supposed to symbolize freedom. It's meant to represent the light of day shining on you, and a voyage toward a world into which you intend to integrate.
When you leave the shark cage, the only thing you integrate with is a predator's stomach.

Jus' gon' be colorin'
Posted 6 years agoHey y'all.
Due to job stress and a diminished amount of time for my hobby, the next several weeks of output from me are just going to be things I color or shade. Maybe also lining a sketch to color and shade.
You see, sketching and pose development are my weakest areas. I know that with dedicated time and effort, I could improve them. But since time is at a premium, and effort is being rationed elsewhere in my life, I'll be sticking to the things I find most fun and fulfilling and relaxing.
Feel free to push blank lineart my way, if you wanna. I'd be happy and honored to fill it in and polish it. Just don't ask or expect me to draw anything from scratch for a while.
Love you all bunches!

Seeking YOUR advice: Twitter? (all opinions welcome)
Posted 6 years agoYou. Yes, you.
I'm thinking about signing up for Twitter to make an art-only account.
I've never used Twitter before and I'm looking for opinions/advice/encouragement/discouragement/thinly-veiled threats about it.
My most important critical attribute: I have to maintain my art persona completely separate from my real life. I need to keep my pseudonym intact.
Do you have a Twitter? Do you follow other artists on Twitter?
Thanks much, friends ~ <3

Game Freak, You Did Good (Linoone)
Posted 6 years agoAnyone who knows me knows that I've loved Linoone for many, many years. They also know that I love anthros, and that I love metal, and I love edgy designs.
So the fact that Game Freak made an edgy metal anthro Linoone evolution is literally fucking everything I could have ever dreamed for that game.
I think the first time I hit someone with a Reckless Belly Drum'd Double Edge, I'm going to cry dark tears of dark joy.
Thank you, Game Freak. <3

Character Commission Collection: SweetLiarr
Posted 6 years agoSo, there are a few artists on FA whose style I love so much, I just *had* to obtain a complete set of character commissions from them.
Here's one of my absolute favorites:

Bandit: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/28840698/
Honey Pie: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/31503462/

Serenity: https://www.furaffinity.net/full/32414559/
Roxxy: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/30309568/
Each of my favorite artists has some particular quality that makes them stand out to me. I think
sweetliarr does an amazing job with clothing dynamics, an excellent job with environmental lighting and shading, and a very satisfying and delightful job with facial expressions that make me feel intrigued as to what the character is thinking and planning.
I have some other artists that I also have a complete collection from, and I'll likely journal about soon... but today I'm celebrating
sweetliarr, who is just a treat to work with and I'm exceedingly happy to have found!

Cross-Country Move/Getting Back Into It
Posted 6 years agoSo I've spent the last 3 weeks moving from Washington State to New York State. Everything is finally out of moving boxes and set up around the house!
It ended up being a big break from regular drawing, because trying to prioritize art with so much to do around the house is untenable. Plus, feeling inspired to draw in a space that isn't established can feel hard to overcome. I start work at my new office on Friday, and I'll be back into a normal routine quickly (I expect).
If I've promised or committed to doing art for you, I assure you it's still in my queue! Note me if you're wondering what your spot on that queue is. I'll be prioritizing personal art for a little while as I get back into the flow of things, though.
Thanks much for your patience! Normal service will resume.

Seeking design help/assistance/consult for an OC
Posted 6 years ago*note - I'm intending for the audience of this note to be people with whom I have a relationship more than just watchers/frequent +favoriters, but all advice from anyone is welcome~*
Bottom line up front: I'm planning on getting a tattoo of one of my characters this year and I want to make sure their design is optimized.
http://www.furaffinity.net/gallery/...../Windy-Laridae
I love my bird lady Windy very much; she's a representation of a vital part of my every day life. For my birthday (in September of this year) I intend to get a tattoo of her. I am going to design and draw the tattoo I want.
Here's where I need help: there are a couple of design elements of Windy that I still feel are squishy. First, her hair coloring and style. Second, her beak shape and nostril placement. Third, her tail design. There are other little aspects I tend to refine through repetition, but I have to make sure I have all the major elements completely solidified before I get ink done.
Artists (and art fans)! If you're willing to help, I'd like that! The sort of help I'm looking for:
- Design drawings and sketches. I'd be willing to commission you for these, or agree to art trades in return (i.e. I'm not asking for "free work")
- Discussions and brainstorming. I'd love to hear your opinions on her current design. What works? What catches your eye funny?
- Links to examples of hairstyles or relevant designs you like. Windy is a sea bird in her mid-thirties. She's naturally blonde and keeps her hair neck length. She will always have black accents in it. Those are really the only major constraints for those elements.
- Anything else that you feel could be helpful!
Again - I am not looking for free work from anyone! Assistance of substance can be rewarded with a proportional-effort trade or commission.
Thanks for reading!
