NEW MEME ALERT!!!!!
General | Posted 14 years agoBased on Rick Perry's latest campaign ad, a new meme shall be created, following this formula: You know there's something wrong in this country when "X" but "Y".
Help my school's LGBTA Resource Center!
General | Posted 14 years agoNow, normally, I wouldn't post links to websites asking for your name and email address, but this one is for a good cause that I'm sure many of you can relate to in some form or another. See, my school's LGBTA Resource Center currently shares a very small office with another campus organization. In the past few weeks, the other group's leaders have been displaying a hostile attitude towards members of our GSA (student group) and LGBTA Commission (Faculty and staff group) who make use of the Resource Center. Members of the opposing organization have been witnessed placing posters in such a way that they cover the Resource Center banner, hiding LGBT materials, and removing the rainbow flag and placing it..... guess where. IN THE CLOSET!!!
You have to understand that both groups have allotted times to use the space, and the other group has other, much larger spaces that are exclusively theirs. However, that group has permission from the higher-ups to take over the shared space whenever they want during Finals Week. If members of the GSA are working at the Resource Center, they will be required to leave, and there's nothing they can do about it.
Members of the GSA and LGBTA Commission are working together to defend our school's safe space for LGBT individuals. However, we need your help, too. One of our members started an online petition to try to convince the higher-ups that we need the space, and that having a safe space on campus has the potential to be a life-or-death situation. Below is a direct link to the petition. I ask that you at least read it, even if you have no intention of signing. Thank you for your support.

Alternatives to FA? None that I can find.
General | Posted 14 years agoSo after reading about today's incident here on FA, I decided to do some research into alternate websites that are friendly towards Furry art. First, the three most popular, and their flaws:
1. Fur Affinity: Increasingly restrictive Acceptable Upload Policy
2. InkBunny: Doesn't allow photography
3. Deviant Art: Doesn't allow pornography
This rules out any of the above sites for desired usage. At this rate, I'm going to assume the less popular sites are less popular for valid reasons, and not waste my time reading their TOS's. Instead, I'm going to outline my ideas for a new, ideal website for hosting Furries and those who enjoy them:
Rule #1: Quit'cher bitchin. If you don't like it, don't look at it. Whoever put it there has every right to do so. It's not your business to judge the moral value of someone else's work, because morals, like art, are highly subjective.
Rule #2: If it's not yours, don't post it, except with explicit permission. Also, posting someone else's work requires giving credit to the original creator.
Rule #3: If it's illegal in real life, it's illegal on the internet. No photographs of minors without the consent of the parents or people committing real crimes. If that kind of stuff is your thing, the rest of us don't want to know about it. (Failure to follow this rule will result in legal action.)
Rule #4: Treat others with dignity and respect. You don't want them bitching at you. Don't bitch at them.
Rule #5: All are welcome. Everyone has just as much right to be here as you do, provided everyone follows the rules.
Rule #6: These rules apply to everyone, including admins, at all times. Abso-FUCKING-lutely no exceptions.
So there you have it. Six simple, yet effective rules for an ideal website, created as a place where Furries and non-furries can gather to share art, stories, poetry, music, ideas, etc. without fear of being bitched at for displaying something that someone doesn't agree with.
That wasn't so hard, was it?
TL;DR: QUIT'CHER BITCHIN!

FA AUP Update: More bitching.
General | Posted 14 years agoI'm sure you've all heard by now that FA has once again changed their Acceptable Upload Policy, and once again allowed it to further restrict what counts as "acceptable." It's a shame, really. Personally, I always thought that the Furry community was the most accepting and open-minded group I've ever belonged to. Indeed, it was the first group I ever felt like I really belonged to. I always tell my non-Furry friends how amazing it feels to go to a Furry convention, and not have to worry about what other people think of the way I express myself, because it's the diversity of Furries as a whole that make our fandom unique. Everyone has their own level of involvement in the Furry community, and there are just as many ways of expressing it.
This brings me to my next point. Everyone has their own "thing." And by "thing" I mean something they really, really like. (Sorry, trying to keep it G-rated here.) For some people, this "thing" is being with people very similar to themselves. For others, it's being with someone different. For some, it's playing with certain toys. For some, it's a certain activity. I'm sure most of you get the point.
See, the problem is, some people (we'll call them Group A) don't understand why other people (Group B) like certain things, so Group A whines and complains about the things Group B likes, so to make Group A shut the hell up, Group C tells Group B not to like those things. But Group B has every right to like these things, and Group A doesn't seem to understand that either, so to keep the peace, Group C tells Group B that they can still like those things, as long as no one else knows about it. Then Group C build a big, solid wall between Group A and Group B to stop them from fighting. This still doesn't solve the problem, because now Group A has nothing to complain about, so they decide to go around the wall and spy on Group B. Yet somehow, the ensuing war is blamed on Group B, even though they weren't causing problems and Group A doesn't seem to understand that they don't have to associate with Group B if they don't want to. At this point, Group A needs a swift kick in the face.
I happen to be a proud member of Group D, which is the group of people who don't necessarily enjoy the same things as Group B, but realizes that they have the right to enjoy those things, and if we don't enjoy them, who cares? However, there is one thing Group D will absolutely not tolerate. That one thing is intolerance. I know it sounds hypocritical, but listen to the rest of the story. Group A is highly intolerant. They have every right to be intolerant, but not to the point that they try to prevent other people from liking certain things. Group A should learn to be intolerant in a place where they don't have to look at the things Group B likes.
As I said before, everyone has their own "thing." Group A's thing is making life miserable for others. Group B like things Group A doesn't approve of. Group C likes to make Group A happy. Group D likes being friends with Group B.
Which group are you?

Anthrocon 2011 Post-Con Report
General | Posted 14 years ago I know I’m a month and a half to two months late with this. “RL” has been an asshole to me lately, and unfortunately things I’ve needed to get done all summer have taken a back seat to everyone else’s crap. More on that later.
Back to Anthrocon. It was an amazing event this year. I won’t spew numbers and stats, because I’m sure you’ve already heard. As for my personal experience, I had a ton of fun and met a ton of new people. I also took more pictures than ever. I attended more panels. I spent more time socializing. The whole weekend was amazing.
My Anthrocon weekend actually started that Wednesday, with a ride from my home to the Amtrak station in Harrisburg, followed by a train ride that lasted the whole afternoon and evening. We arrived in Pittsburgh around 9 pm that night. I then proceeded to walk to the Courtyard Mariott, where I would be staying for the weekend.
Highlights from my Anthrocon experience include the “Whose Lion Is It Anyway?” improv comedy panels, opening and closing ceremonies, Uncle Kage’s Story Hour, and 2’s Rant. In addition, there was a group of Fursuiters from New York dressed as the Power Rangers from the original series. They were great, and a lot of fun to watch. Also, I spent more money at AC this year than in previous years. I was able to pick up a copy of Blotch’s new graphic novel, Across Thin Ice. If you haven’t read it yet, I highly recommend it.
I left Pittsburgh before the sun came up Monday morning, as I walked back to the Amtrak station in Pittsburgh. I was on the train all morning, and got back to Harrisburg early that afternoon.
This year, I am proud to say that my Post-Con Depression was minimal, or at least not as bad as it was last year. If you want to know what happened last year, ask me privately. This year, I was determined to enjoy the convention, and I did. I didn’t let things like not knowing anyone, or plans falling apart at the last minute drag me down. This was probably one of my greatest accomplishments of the summer.
**********************************************************************************
In other news, my life after Anthrocon 2011 has been hectic, crazy, and downright exhausting. My niece turned one year old, I finally have my own bedroom, my mom’s been taking summer classes, and I’m pretty sure I won’t be getting any financial aid to help pay for college this year. So it’s been a rough several weeks, and that’s why it’s taken me so long to get this up. I could go into details, but that’s another story for another time. I guess if you’re really curious and don’t mind listening to me vent, contact me privately.
On a lighter note, I now have the capability to host a Minecraft server, but so far no one’s seen it except me. Let me know if you want the info. Also, I have TF2, so if you want a noob on your team, check my profile for my Steam info.

AC 2011 Pre-Con Report
General | Posted 14 years ago• Where are you staying?
Courtyard
• What day are you getting there?
Wednesday evening
• Who will you be with?
I don't know. There aren't many people I know going, so if you want to hang out, get in touch with me.
• Do you do free art?
If someone really wants me to draw them something, I'll do my best.
• Do you do trades?
Sure, why not?
• Do you do commissions?
If you wanna pay me for stuff, how could I refuse?
• What is your gender?
Male. Definitely.
• How old are you?
over the age of "PARTY", yet under the age of "OLD"
• Can I talk to you?
Most definitely.
• Can I touch you?
um.... talk to me first.
• Can I hang out with you?
YES!!!! PLEASE!!!!!
• How can I find you?
I'll be at the "Whose Lion Is It Anyway?" panel. Other than that, text my cell phone or IM me. IM's will be forwarded to my phone.
• Can I buy you drinks?
As long as it's neither soda nor alcohol. Food is good too.
Also, I'll be taking Amtrak from Harrisburg to Pittsburgh on Wednesday, June 22nd. If anyone else is on that train, let me know and maybe we can meet up there. I'm also on Amtrak on Monday, June 27th, going back to Harrisburg.
Now, as you read above, there aren't many people I know going to Anthrocon this year. And as most people know, I'm not a very social person. However, given the fact that I won't know anyone there, I'm determined to meet new people and make new friends. I firmly intend to have a great time.
On the other hand, my expectations for this Anthrocon are being kept at a low, manageable level. This is for several reasons. First, Anthrocon and I have a love-hate relationship. It's honestly the best time of my life, but I've have quite a few bad experiences associated with it. Last year, my post-con depression was so bad that I almost had an emotional breakdown while I was driving home. (Coincidentally, it was the first time I was ever actually thankful for all the road work than PennDOT does every year.) This year, I am keeping my expectations low so that I won't be as disappointed if it doesn't meet my expectations. Secondly, low expectations means that if all goes well, it'll exceed my expectations, which would be awesome.
So if anyone is going to Anthrocon and would like to meet up with me, my cell phone is always on. If you need my number, let me know. Hope to see you there!
EDIT: Follow THIS LINK tostalk me see what I'll be up to while at Anthrocon!

And now for some good news:

Glad to hear the pup's doing fine. Though I think his former owner, one Kisha Curtis, is getting off way too easy. I mean, what would the sentence be if that had been her child, rather than a puppy? Because really, puppies are just furry, 4-legged children.

CAUTION: DO NOT READ!!! Contains ranting!
General | Posted 14 years agoTL;DR version: Trust me, you really don't want to read this. It's full of highly subjective ranting. And while not specifically aimed at anyone in particular, some people may recognize examples personal to them. If you are one of these people, please keep it to yourself. I tried my best to make this rant as anonymous as I could.
LAST CHANCE TO STOP READING!
I believe it's slowly killing me inside when I let my friends unload all their problems on me, but they all push me away when I have my own problems to unload. I let my friends walk all over me. I ask a specific question and get the world's most vague answer. I make plans and invite them. They say sure, they'd love to come! But when the time comes to actually do it, they all drop out for various reasons.
And now it seems I have a knack for saying all the wrong things at the wrong time. Whenever I talk to anyone about the aforementioned plans to people who have already told me they won't be able to go, most of the time they just stop responding to me. One person was honest enough to tell me that it actually hurts his feelings when I bring it up. He says he doesn't like being reminded that he can't go. So now I have a very close friend kinda pissed off at me, and I'm convinced that it's my fault.
Further complicating matters, I have to keep all my thoughts and feelings to myself, because no one else wants to hear them. I'll gladly take an hour or so to listen to anything they want to tell me (which isn't much these days, by the way). But God forbid I mention my problems to anyone. As soon as I do, the conversation explodes and I'm making my friends depressed by telling them my problems and asking for emotional support. Maybe my mom's right. Maybe it is time for me to find new friends.
I'm sick and tired of being everyone's "go-to-guy" without having one of my own. I want to be able to tell people that I need straight answers. I want to be able to be an asshole to other people, to piss people off without apologizing. I don't want to care what my friends think of me. I want to say "This is who I am. If you don't like me for me, then you're not a true friend."
But if I did that, I wouldn't have friends. I like the friends I have, and I value their companionship. I want them to be my friends. That's why I let them treat me like shit.
((I warned you! Don't complain to me.))

You people like free art, right?
General | Posted 15 years agoJust in case, I have a little secret to share with you. But before I tell you that story, I have to tell you this story:
THIS Story
As anyone who's browsed my gallery here knows, I've been to Anthrocon for the last two years. This year, I spent August through May saving as much as I could to be able to go to Anthrocon again this year. However, due to increasing expenses and decreasing income, I don't have nearly as much as I would like. I can barely afford my education, let alone a weekend at the greatest event I've ever been to. Call it what you will, but I need money.
THAT Story
As anyone who's browsed my gallery here knows, I can't draw to save my life. Though, I have to admit, I can do stick figures well enough to get by. So here's what I propose: I'll offer commissions of stick figures. I'll draw anything you want, to the best of my ability. And here's the best part: You get to name your own price! That's right folks, if you don't think my "art" is worth anything, you don't have to pay me! However, if you would like the original mailed to you, I will ask that you pay shipping. Your "drawing" will be on an 8_1/2" x 11" (or smaller, by request) piece of paper, either in marker or colored pencil. I will accept payment via PayPal. If PayPal is a problem for you, contact me privately so we can work something out. I'll also need a link to a basic ref pic if you want me to draw your own characters, though I will say right now that specific details might not show up well in stick figure style.
So if anyone is interested, please send me a note with the details. Thanks!!

I'll also need a link to a basic ref pic if you want me to draw your own characters, though I will say right now that specific details might not show up well in stick figure style.
So if anyone is interested, please send me a note with the details. Thanks!!
20 things people don't know about me
General | Posted 15 years agoAnd still won't, because no one reads my journal here anyway.

1.I absolutely hate when people don't reply to my messages. Is it really so hard to say "Sorry, I can't talk right now" or "Sorry I didn't answer, I was busy at the moment." Even a simple "Sorry, I'm blatantly ignoring you" would suffice.
2. There are things I like to do, and things I wish I could do, but very few things that I'm really good at actually doing.
3. I really don't have a lot of friends. And of the friends I do have, I rarely get to talk to them or see them.
4. I get depressed when I have no one to talk to and nothing to do, which is quite often.
5. People don't take me seriously when I get moody or depressed, and they talk to me even less.
6. Continuing #5, I really wish they would talk to me and hear me out when I get upset, because it makes me feel better when I can vent to someone I know, who will (hopefully) understand why I feel that way.
7. The people I trust least are the people closest to me.
8. I'm always afraid that if my friends knew the whole truth about me, they wouldn't be my friends anymore.
9. I do things that my "friends" tell me to do because I want them to like me and be my "friends".
10. I need others to like me because I don't like myself.
11. I want to be well-known for SOMETHING during my lifetime.
12. Among the things I wish I could do are: lose about 50lbs.; improve my ability to draw and write; hold a steady job; be more out-going and personable; get a professional gig as a bass guitarist; sing without sounding like a pig being stabbed in the lungs; completely finish a video game without "cheating"
13. I hate the sound of my voice. This is part of the reason why I prefer text messaging over talking on the phone.
14. When I was younger, I asked my parents several times to take me to an emotional counselor. It never happened.
15. I listen to music as a way to clear my mind of all the shit that goes on in my life.
16. I also use music as a way to block out what's going on around me so I can concentrate on myself for a change.
17. I don't follow my own advice. When my friends need help and support, I tell them that things will get better. But I don't really believe it.
18. I don't believe in "unconditional love". I believe everyone has at least one thing that if they did/said/expressed, someone who loves them would no longer love them.
19. Nothing personal, but I find straight couples showing public displays of affection to be rather disturbing. I attribute this to the fact that I'm gay, and if I did the same thing with my (hypothetical) boyfriend, we'd be told to stop.
20. I think about death a lot. I wonder what it feels like to die and be dead. I wonder about when and how I will die. I wonder who would come to my funeral. And I wonder if anyone I met online would even realize that I'm not around anymore. In addition, I sometimes think about how my life would change if I was ever diagnosed with a terminal disease, like AIDS or cancer or something. Who would I tell, and what would their reactions be? The future is a scary place.

I know no one reads my journal entries, but..........
General | Posted 15 years agoJust in case, I'd like to propose an idea that just occurred to me.
Thanks!!

Coming Out survey!
General | Posted 15 years agohttp://webspace.ship.edu/aldunlap/
So I received this link in an email from someone involved with my school's GSA. It's a legit survey. The guy running it is studying changes in the "coming out" process over the years, and anyone who identifies as an LGBT individual and is 18 or older is invited to participate. It won't take more than 15 minutes.
I'm posting this here because I know many of you are included in that group. The more people who take the survey, the more accurate the results will be. Thanks!

More AUP Ranting
General | Posted 15 years agoSo apparently, based on the latest AUP revision, which states quite clearly,
Fur Affinity Acceptable Upload Policy wrote:Stick figures are not considered "original content"
at least one of my submissions doesn't count as original content. You may see the image in question here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4255535
Now, I have the 8.5"x11" piece of paper that those stick figures were drawn on. There are also witnesses who stood and watched as I drew them. I know for a fact that I created those characters on my own, with only my imagination and the chlorine fumes from being in the pool all morning telling me what to draw. Just because I have no artistic ability doesn't mean that my stick figures are not "original content".
