I've been receiving a lot of unsolicited discord friend requests lately and I feel as though some people need some clarification on why I ignored their request.

I'm of the opinion that it is basic internet etiquette to include context whenever you try to initiate private conversation with someone online.

If you DM me on twitter, IB or here on FA you can include a message that I can read, and I can look at your account for additional details.
If you add me on discord, I see a name and a profile picture.
I don't know who you are.
I don't know what you want.
For all I know you're gonna try to send me malware or other illegal stuff, or are a literal child who evaded parental supervision long enough to make it my problem.

If we're like, mutuals or something and I recognize the name/profile picture I may accept, but I generally ignore such requests out of principle.

Just because you know who I am and can safely assume I do not have any nefarious intentions doesn't mean it goes the other way. Put yourself in my shoes. If some random person you do not recognize tried adding you, completely unsolicited, would you just accept? Because I wouldn't, even before I started doing art publicly. Because that's common sense.

TL;DR--
If you want to be ignored by Fiftyfifthfleet, send a friend request over discord and do literally nothing else.
If you actually want to talk to Fiftyfifthfleet, do literally anything other than the former.
