【The Asbjorn】
Asbjorn are creatures of the Ursidae Family, which are known to be overseers of worlds
both physical and spiritual, as they guard the wisdom of the seen and unseen realms.
The species originates within the spirit world but they have been known to cross over to
interact with those in the physical realm in order to lend their strength and wisdom to
those worthy of their assistance in a literal sense. Their presence and will alone can promote
strength and wisdom in those they are there to help. This can typically only be done when
they are called by their true names, and only when the one calling upon them is worthy of
their assistance.
In primal times, these fearsome bears were called upon to teach those coming of age to hunt.
Now, they are typically called upon for protection. These bears are known for their wisdom, strength,
compassion, and healing; They bring all of these attributes to those that they watch over. While
these creatures are often seen as wise beyond comprehension, they are also fierce warriors
and guardians over those they protect.
If these creatures are not called upon by someone deserving, they can typically only cross
between worlds twice a year, at the peaks of the winter and summer solstices. Some of the Asbjorn
may choose to stay in the physical world permanently, however, even if this decision is made,
their connection to the spiritual world, their home, remains strong. The first few days after they cross
realms whether it be to the spiritual or to the physical world, their eyes glow a vibrant white. Once
this wears off, generally their eyes will only glow like that when they are in the physical world,
calling upon assistance from the spiritual.
Asbjorns are predominantly known and spoken of by the residents of the north and south poles
of the world. When they’re called upon, the temperatures in these areas are most accommodating
to their needs as while the spirit realm is ethereal, bright, and beautiful, it also remains well below
freezing temperature. Because of this, these bears tend to stay in these areas, it’s rare to see them
anywhere else.
While these bears have dense muscle that keeps them warm, they also have a layer of fat over
them to keep that warmth in. Their muscle isn’t typically well defined on their bodies, though you
can see it there beneath their thick, double coated fur.
The males of this species, fully grown, stand at around eight feet tall, while the females stand around
seven feet in height, which is still much taller than most creatures in Ewora. These bears can be
found in a variety of colors and patterns, but the most predominant feature which is seen in all of
this species is the long fur that grows right behind and below their ears. This fur is typically cuffed, or braided,
and well taken care of as it is seen as their connection to their home in the spirit world. The males of this species may
intentionally mat this fur in order tobetter hold the cuffs.
While Males may cut the fur to make it more manageable for hunting, and to make it more aesthetically pleasing
to them, females don’t tend to cut this fur very short, and some never cut it at all, in these cases it has
been known to grow to the ground.
Other than their height and this long fur coming from behind their ears, there is another cultural
tradition that can be used to discern the males from the females, and that would be the way that they
adorn their horns. While Asbjorns horns come in all different shapes and sizes, the males will typically
adorn their horns with cloth wraps if anything, while the females tend to adorn theirs with intricate chains,
and hanging jewels and trinkets.
This species as a whole is very much seen as a warrior culture. They are commonly seen as aggressive and
fierce. However, the males of this species known to pick their battles wisely, they are very diplomatic, and tend
to find a way to resolve things peacefully. Though they can be more aggressive and hot headed, battle is not
the first conclusion that they come to. Similarly, the females of this species are known to be extremely nurturing,
kind, and patient. They are typically more levelheaded than the males and fight is not their first instinct, however,
they are also fiercely protective over those that they love, and when those they care about are in danger, the
warrior comes out.
