CURRENT STATUS = Under Construction / Reorganization.
We are currently taking the Drupal site down and restructuring the site under Boonex. Boonex offers a tried and true and now recognizable UI as well as an option to view and participate with the site on Android and iOS handsets and mobile devices. Please check "Site Updates" in Journals for more information.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this causes.
Last Updated: Evening - December 21st, 2010OLD CONTENT... To be updated soon.
A year ago tomorrow (Black Friday 2010) some friends and I sat down and hashed over the idea of a better place for cubs and those who loved them to play and frolic, socialize and post art on among other things, just better than what it was for them here on FA.
It didnt take long for us to realize that with some work a goal like this was something that was more than totally possible and I purchased the domain name CubAffinity.net and we set out meaning to create a site for this particular interest group with even more feature rich capabilities than what's here on FA, like email and even free and paid (with the slightest of fee's) space in virtual reality. Since then the team that helped me stew up the original ideas has scattered from here and there, generally because they are so confused about the purpose for such a site being somewhat redundant with FA even with its consistently being rather challenging towards adult cub art or cubs in general, and not being sure of being part of something that seemed to set peoples hair on fire even in a fandom that was supposed to be known for its diversity and tolerance. Things have changed since then though, much to exactly how I said they would, and its not really even the slightest bit redundant, even if FA still chooses to host cub art just not cub porn.
Not only do we own the domain name but just no more than a month ago I struck up an agreement with a rather generous fur I've known off and on for more than a decade and once worked on a MUCK for him, and we now have the capability to host this endeavor on very adequate equipments and ample bandwidth.
The servers that we will be hosting the service on are currently Xeon 5160 running at around 3ghz per core x 8 cores, 8gb of RAM, and 1tb of storage on 15k SAS disks. Running Apache and pretty much all the packages for PHP, and hand modified for added security.
Provider is offering more than enough bandwidth to make it scream happily and is willing to facilitate an increase once we need it, as well as tossing on a few more servers.
We are currently considering what software to run the site on, right now it looks like we are fairly limited to Dolphin but as I feel that that has sort have become cliche I'm looking for input for other possibilities. I was enthusiastic about maybe implementing Diaspora but provider side does not feel comfortable with Ruby for some reason.
We are currently looking not only to offer a nice place to migrate to in the backlash of recent drastic turn about in policy here on FA but we need to develop a strong team of admins and moderators as well as site specific content artists and technical team.
I'm looking to have something more than a parked domain name site up ASAP and we will start accepting memberships and uploads hopefully within the next week, but I want to seriously shoot for a grand opening on New Years or if need be that pomp and what not can be delayed till Ground Hogs Day.
Some things to consider...
Although we are very babyfur friendly we are not necessarily a babyfur or diaperfur site.
cubAffinity.net's sole or primary purpose is not to be a clearing house for "cub porn" or artistic expressions involving apparently below age characters in adult / sexual situations.
That being said we hold no reservations against hosting it and are not shamed to have it on our site, so long as it is not illegal. Contrary to what many people think, just because one a site allows this content to be loaded has never meant in the past, where there was a site that did not focus on "cub porn" specifically, the host was never over run by this specific kind of content.
Although... with recent changes on sites such as FA, cA's start may seem like there is a majority of artists coming in who's submissions has a somewhat or key focus on adult cub content. This should taper down as we become more popular with artists who enjoy submitting other content that may not have much to do with cubs at all, but they themselves are cubs or someone who loves cubs.
cubAffinity is not meant to be anywhere near close to being restricted to only allowing cub themed submission and content. We do however wish to keep the majority of focus on being a community of "cub" furries and / or those who love them.
We are looking to having two major parts of the service, Adult and Under 18. This is not of particular concern at start because of the complexities of pulling it off and still covering our asses, but I really want to offer a chance for a broader scope of membership and I've had many requests to facilitate something where furry parents can create accounts for their children monitor their use and even upload their art and read back the wonderful feedback they get so they can feel more validated for their skills from the early get go.
We will have few no tolerance rules and policies and attempt resolution by tribunal / mediation / and delegation, if need be, but there will be one time offenses where we would have no choice to offer a second chance, such as, but not limited to someone posting actual illegal content, and not only would we do what was necessary to block them from accessing and using the site, but we will fully cooperate with authorities.
We will allow for photos to be uploaded, within means, be they of a nature scene, a dog taking a poop, trains, a cum encrusted plush, ones prom dress, or ones private parts in a state of arousal. Generally speaking so long as it is not against the law, it counts as acceptable to be hosted on our site.
To that regard, "so long as it is not against the law" means within the jurisdiction hosting the site, which would be the state of Texas, United States of America, but... Since there will be "controversial" content hosted on the site, members will have to list the country they are accessing the site from, and will only be allowed access to the PG - PG-13 part of the site if they indicate they are in a nation that it is against the law to view or otherwise have on ones computer any of the content that could be found in the adult section of the site, this would include jurisdictions such as but not limited to Canada, the UK, and Germany.
We would not be doing this to bow down to those countries determining that something like any kind of art should be deemed illegal solely based upon the fact that it does not fall within the scope of being something that is what a conservative would admit outside his computer closet that he detests, or even if it is something that they particularly honestly find distasteful. We do this to cover our ass, and to prove it we will rally behind and support advocates for free speech and expression that does not otherwise directly harm someone. In other words we will not support free speech and expression if it condones hate, intolerance, or otherwise perpetuates ignorance.
Should a particular kind of content that is not illegal now, become illegal, only then will it be removed from the site. We will comply to all laws no matter how conservative and infringing on freedom they may be and we will cooperate with the authorities that be concerning those who refuse to obey the laws. This does not mean, however, that we will not stand by and not protest censorship and laws passed that impedes on freedom of speech and expression. We intend on compliance as well as at the same time going through proper channels and ralying to negate any laws that have been passed or are passed that impede on freedom of speech and expression, and laws that perpetuate discrimination against paraphilias and other sexualities where by these things should not be criminalized... Such as sodomy laws.
There is a general idea for proactive attempts at activity and events to deal with stigma and ignorance concerning the baby / cub / little fur sub-culture.
Hate mongering trolls, snarks, and lulz fishers will be dealt with in as kind of a three strikes policy as possible. Upon the third infraction if they honestly wish to still be allowed to use the site, they can choose to state there case in tribunal / mediation, before a final decision is made as to whether or not they should be allowed to keep using the site.
The site is for furries to post furry art and / or furry artists to post content that may not be all that relevant to the fandom, and all though we are themed towards cubs and those with an affinity for them content is not restricted to just those themes.
If a furry artist prefers to draw only content involving human characters or furry on human or visa versa, this content is allowed as well.
Second Life and other 3D world and / or gaming screen shots will be allowed within reason, so long as they are not redundant screen shots of achievements and such, they should have at least some relevance to showing off something having to do with your fursona or characters, or showing your creative skills, like showing off a texture you created or a building or city that you made.
MEME's will be allowed so long as they are telling of you to some extent, fill in the caption and other similarly generic MEME's can be hosted elsewhere. Coloring MEME's will be allowed so long as the artist of the original line art is okay with it.
We will discourage censorship and encourage a diverse, tolerant, accepting, and validating environment and user experience on our site and any associated with it. "Cover thumbnails" meant to otherwise hide the content about to be viewed will not be allowed. We will have folders / albums and not only will content need to be loaded into a fairly consistent folder system, but all content will need to be tagged with appropriate key words and ratings. This will allow for other members who do not wish to see certain topic matters not to be deluged by say for instance Gay Yiff content, since they would otherwise need to go into the specific folder. General streaming of content being uploaded will be on the main page but it would be a choice to click into the main page where as you can otherwise just click right into your user page.
Possibility and the fact that controversial material most likely will be loaded to the site has been discussed with hosting / server side, they are perfectly okay with it so long as it is legal, they have a legal team who "complaints" have to go through, so there is a first response team back up foundation for dealing with Trolls and conservatives who feel that it is their patriotic duty to go all ape shit Fox News Channel on us and try to take us down. We will, however, be shooting to have our own legal team in order to support a more tight nit stance against aggressive ignorance. So we will be offering a steady foundation to be around for a long time as well as a safe place for our users to enjoy without hints that they are doing something criminal by enjoying our site and being a part of the community it supports and is made for.
cubAffinity.net will be staffed by dedicated people held accountable to leading by example. Generally speaking chief / high level team members including myself will be individuals who have a good portion of experience in not only working on these kind of community projects but also in the fandom, on average they will probably have about 10 years experience in the fandom. This does not mean that our staff will not include the younger folk as well, we want to run best suited for all involved and everyone will have a voice, but generally speaking the inexperienced voices of those who will probably represent the largest part of our user base will not "rule" it by mob pop culture driven law, that defeats even what's best for them.
Staff found to be abusing their power or not meeting up to their higher leadership standards, will be dealt with promptly and moved through the tribunal / mediation process faster than other members in order to expedite a more stable site. Users will be encouraged to utilize the trouble ticket system wisely concerning these kind of things, as they could effectively fall under abusing it just for calling out moderators or staff for not complying to their wishes. Just because you are upset by a staff decision does not necessarily mean that you should "tell on them".
Members found to be abusing the trouble ticket system or consistently calling on staff intervention on their behalf when its not really necessary just to lash out and or for spites sake will be dealt with under the same guidelines of spammers, grievers, trolls, snarks, and the like.
cubAffinity will accept donations through channels and with methods where it is allowed, even if we have to implement that service ourself, which is actually very possible with the people I have on the server side. They are very experienced with "cyber banking", and have been known before to be almost too good at it. Their rise in success was so rapid that it actually caused problems because the demand for the service they were working on was setting precedent after precedent and no one really knew how to manage it at the rate it was growing.
Never the less our intent is to keep cubAffinity generally free, with the exception of some bonus features being reserved for very important members like honored artists, and some small fees for what would otherwise be out of the ordinary special features and those that have to have some check on them because they could otherwise strain the service if over utilized. We pretty much have the means to support the site with some reasonable room for expansion with no real need for financial assistance, but we will eventually be adding ad space and may have a fund raiser now and then just to build a more secure foundation in order that we can stay up and running even with unexpected things happening.
As I just mentioned we are looking to coddle our special popular artists and members with some kind of bonus accounts, details are sketchy and its not to be elitist or anything but just for respect and gratitude for these great artists and content contributers giving us what they do. This is not to say that they would be empowered in anyways to supersede policy. Tribunal and due process may weigh contribution against infraction which could lead to some justifiable leniency but otherwise Honored members would be dealt with pretty much on the same level as anyone else concerning violations of site policy.
Server side tech support is viciously rapid. I have my tech guys phone and AIM and have so far been able to get a reaction time concerning the server going down that amounts to an average of 10 minutes max. I can get in touch with him even if he is on the go, and he can tend to technical matters remotely or delegate responsibility to someone within physical proximity of the server equipment and have things back up and running in a matter of minutes, or a few hours at most. Barring unforeseen major disasters like tornadoes or regional power outages, CubAffinity will most likely never have to deal with sudden long term outages like FA has experienced in the past, and we will never impose on our user base that their donations are necessary in order to fix the situation and prevent it from happening again, then to turn around and go through the same thing when it does happen.
In order to ease transition for those that have been accustomed to FA's interface, we are looking to give cA a front end user experience much like what you see here on FA. This may last for some time, or we could decide somewhere down the line to give it a more original feel. On the other paw, we will not be plagiarizing FA, and our interface may start of with standard software default templates but we will be adding a more cub themed look as soon as we can.
Member input and suggestion box contributions are not only encouraged, but we consider the matter critical to our existence and key to the purpose and whole reason behind doing this. It will always be this way from start to end.
If you wish to contact me in order to express interest in helping with this project you can do so by of course noting me here on FA or IMing me on gtalk(barqythebiter) or YIM (barqythebiter) Featured Submission

For Those Worried by the Fear Mongering
Cross posted from IB:
Once upon a time in the United States of America drawn, painted, sculpted and otherwise artistic creations of children not only in adult sexual context but in the nude was made illegal. It didn't last long though because back then the citizens of this nice little country had cahoonas about them. It went to the high court and it was determined to be unconstitutional, and that was that. These days some people confuse the Miller / Three Prong Obscenity Test with basically allowing the system a work around where authorities can be passive concerning the higher court determining that artistic creations of children in "adult" context are protected, but if one does a little home work they will see that its not only nothing to fear, but the Miller test in that it is so vague in parts or in whole that it struggles to be used for the purpose it was made for, and there is heavy consideration to just drop it from the legal system.
"But I've heard that there have been arrests in the United States." There have been arrests in the US but in those arrests the art content found on computers was not what those individuals where charged for, they were charged for the real child porn found there along with it. The media, God bless them everyone (/sarcasm) really likes to play up the artistic stuff though along with the real stuff, cause it adds to the sensationalism. In Canada artistic child porn, including furry/cub porn is illegal, due in part because they want to empower the police to search those computers they find out it is on, for the belief that where there is pornographic art there is also actual pornography.
Just like in every other kinda set up, some things fall through the cracks, and sometimes when these things happen people are wrongfully accused and sentenced. Everyone who knows about the lacking shining perfection of the judicial system knows that there have been more than a few people found guilty of murder and wrongfully sentenced to prison and even death. If a person can go through the judicial system and be found guilty of that then you can darn sure bet that they can be wrongfully accused and sentenced for pretty much anything under the sun, and truth be told... people have been. So, yes there have been very few instances where individuals have been convicted for creating and or possessing art of child characters in adult context, but, this doesn't mean the world is ending as far as those things are concerned, it pretty much means that the individual who ended up going to jail and his defense team failed to stand up for themselves.
It's not difficult to see that there are several sites who host cub porn and seem not to have the issues that Dragoneer and Friends (said like Fox News and Friends) have with it. Not only that but there are sites that cater specifically to only cub art, like cubcentral.org where the porn to no porn content ratio is a lot higher than the chicken little screamers on FA ever thought of in their worst nightmare wet dreams. Cubcentral has been up and running more consistently than Furaffinity has for more than twice as long. Not only that, but sites like hentai-foundry.com and y-gallery.net host, get this, LA GASP actual plain and simple artistic kid porn like shota and loli art, and they've been up for years! And ya know what, there have been more than a few sites on the internet that hosted plain and simple actual kid porn, and God bless them (not sarcasm at all) the FBI comes right along and takes em down, rather swiftly and rather effectively. You don't hear about that among the furry chicken little (The sky is falling, THE SKY IS FALLING!!!) crowd because they don't represent actual law, they represent conservative moral thought police that like to scare us into submitting to being their little puppets and only behaving in the manner that they wish. So long as a site is not hosting illegal content and holds to their responsibility to take down illegal content if its posted and report the perpetrators if its something like actual child porn to the authorities, the FBI and that bunch have bigger fish to fry. It will take a little homework to find out that some of the sites that host cub porn and / or shota do get freaks who actually post really illegal content to the servers, and admin and mod staff have had to remove it and gather info to report it to the authorities. It's almost really simple to figure out if you think about it, for all the dweebs who will report a site just because they think it should be against the law, and for all the fuck munches who post illegal content to those sites, sometimes deliberately just to get them taken down... When a site has been up for a few years, here's what it means.... They're doin it right! Know what I mean?
It's a fickle world indeed, and the lines are sketchy enough to not go at things lacklusterly and care free, but we don't have to listen to the scare tactics and fear mongering either. Do your homework a little and you will see that what's not against the law is allowed to stand, and whats illegal has been taken down, and not only that but the matter has been argued in high court in the United States and the decision has been made and that particular will not be reviewed again. The Miller Test may not exist in the near future, but there is a possibility that something will be written up to take its place. If its not acceptable to the artistic community then its their burden to stand up and say something about it and to make sure the governmental error is corrected, like they used to do when they had balls about them.
But as far as having balls about them when it comes to standing up and defending the right to true freedom of expression, don't expect Dragoneer and his butt buddies to be there for ya.
