2025 Year in Review (G)
Hello!
This is a year-end review of how the sites Furbitron monitors fared in 2025, and how that compares to past years.
tl;dr:
2025 saw double-digit percentage drops in submissions on five of the nine sites Furbitron monitors. The only two sites that had an increase in submissions were e621 and Furbooru. Partial or complete outages at three sites affected the numbers. 2025 was the fifth year ever where FurAffinity did *not* have year-on-year growth.
tl;dr but as a table:
Submission IDs
site...............................2025............2024........v%......notes
Buzzly.........................9,320..........11,190....-17%
e621.......................806,900.......771,700......+4.6%
e6AI..........................62,430..........62,890......-0.73%
FurAffinity...........4,143,000....4,363,000......-5.0%
Furbooru................116,000.......103,700...+12%.......new for 2025
FurryNetwork..........17,220..........30,340...-43%
Itaku.......................222,400........301,300...-26%
SoFurry.....................52,070.......127,100....-59%
Weasyl....................100,100.......115,300...-13%
(submission ID counts are rounded)
In June, Furbitron added support for Furbooru, after a request from a Furbitron user. Furbooru's line color on the graphs is purple, from its default theme.
In August, Furbitron added the e621 art comments experiment.
In September, Furbitron added year-on-year graphs for Buzzly, FurryNetwork, and Weasyl that are scaled to remove the two most popular years for each site. These sites all had years of fast growth in the past, but their more recent growth has been much slower. The new graphs allow for better visibility into recent years. These graphs appear under the existing graph on the year-on-year page.
Three sites had outages of various durations. These are detailed below.
Buzzly had about 9,320 submission IDs in 2025, as compared to 11,190 submission IDs in 2024. 2025 was the third year that Buzzly did not have year-on-year growth.
Buzzly experienced fast growth in late 2021 and early 2022, but the post rate dropped off a lot in mid-March 2022. This low post rate continued throughout 2022 and beyond.
There was a small bump in the post rate in mid-September, 2025, for unknown reasons.
Based on data from January to June, 2025, Furbitron predicted that Buzzly would have 9,560 submission IDs for all of 2025. The actual result was slightly lower than predicted.
Buzzly does not use numeric submission IDs, so Furbitron cannot check the latest submissions to get the highest submission ID. Instead, Furbitron queries Buzzly's API to get the count of submissions Buzzly claims to have had since Furbitron's last query, and adds that count to a running total.
In 2025, Buzzly averaged about 25 posts a day.
2025 was the best year ever for e621, with about 806,900 submission IDs, compared to 771,700 submission IDs in 2024.
Based on data from January to June, 2025, Furbitron predicted that e621 would have 808,000 submission IDs for all of 2025. The actual result was slightly lower than predicted.
e621 reached submission ID 6,000,000 on November 24, 2025.
e621 had year-on-year growth every year from 2008 to 2025. It launched in spring 2007 and had about 14,100 submission IDs that year; 2008 was the first full year of operation, with about 10,700 submission IDs.
In 2025, e621 averaged about 2,210 posts a day.
e6AI had about 62,430 submission IDs in 2025, compared to 62,890 submission IDs in 2024. This was the first year that e6AI did not have year-on-year growth.
Based on data from January to June, 2025, Furbitron predicted that e6AI would have 62,000 submission IDs for all of 2025. The actual result was a bit higher than predicted.
e6AI specializes in AI-generated images, and is operated by the same people as e621. e6AI went online around mid-October 2022, and had about 860 submission IDs through the end of 2022.
Furbitron does not fully support e6AI. You can see statistics for e6AI on the "All > Statistics" and "All except FA > Statistics" pages, but the individual pages for each graph don't exist.
In 2025, e6AI averaged about 170 posts a day.
2025 was the fifth year ever where FurAffinity did *not* have year-on-year growth; it ended 2025 with about 4,143,000 submission IDs, as compared to 4,363,000 for 2024.
FurAffinity had an outage from about April 28th to May 8th. The FurAffinity admins stated that this was due to problems encountered when trying to expand the disk space available on their data storage server. This can be seen as a flat section near the beginning of May on the past-year graph, and as a flat section in the grey line (2025) near day 120 on the year-on-year graph.
Based on data from January to June, 2025, Furbitron predicted that FurAffinity would have 4,140,000 submission IDs for all of 2025. The actual result was a little better than predicted.
If the outage had not happened, based on data from January to late April, Furbitron estimates that FurAffinity would have about 4,270,000 submission IDs in 2025.
FurAffinity launched in late 2005 and had about 12,000 submission IDs that year; 2006 was the first full year of operation, with about 320,600 submission IDs. It had year-on-year growth every year from 2005 to 2020.
In 2025, FurAffinity averaged about 11,350 posts a day.
Furbooru had 116,000 submission IDs in 2025. This was an improvement over the 103,700 submission IDs in 2024, and marked the best year so far for Furbooru.
Based on data from January to June, 2025, Furbitron predicted that Furbooru would have 114,000 submission IDs for all of 2025. The actual result was a little better than predicted.
Furbooru reached submission ID 500,000 on November 4, 2025.
Furbooru was launched in mid-2020 and had just over 59,000 submission IDs that year; 2021 was the first full year of operation, with about 74,600 submission IDs.
Furbitron added monitoring of Furbooru in June 2025, on request from a Furbitron user. Since Furbooru provides a daily database dump, Furbitron used that to get data back to the site's founding in mid-2020.
In 2025, Furbooru averaged about 320 posts a day.
FurryNetwork had about 17,220 submission IDs in 2025, compared to 30,340 submission IDs in 2024. This was the slowest full year for FurryNetwork.
Based on data from January to June, 2025, Furbitron predicted that FurryNetwork would have 23,000 submission IDs for all of 2025. The actual result was much lower than predicted.
FurryNetwork had a partial outage from about July 4th to September 5th, 2025. The site was up, and serving previous submissions, but nothing new could be uploaded. Furbitron was unable to find a statement from the FurryNetwork admins about this outage. This can be seen as a flat section in July and August on the past-year graph and a flat section in the grey line (2025) from about day 180 to day 240 on the year-on-year graph.
FurryNetwork's best year ever was 2016, with about 1,063,000 submission IDs. It launched in summer 2015 and had about 286,800 submission IDs that year.
In 2025, FurryNetwork averaged about 50 posts a day.
Itaku had about 222,400 submission IDs in 2025, compared to 301,300 submission IDs in 2024. This is the second year in a row that Itaku did not have year-on-year growth.
There was a small bump in the post rate in mid-June, 2025, for unknown reasons.
Based on data from January to June, 2025, Furbitron predicted that Itaku would have 232,000 submission IDs for all of 2025. The actual result was somewhat lower than predicted.
Itaku first went online around October, 2020, but had a very low post rate through about June, 2021. Itaku had about 38,900 submission IDs in 2021, and 243,000 in 2022.
In 2025, Itaku averaged about 610 posts a day.
SoFurry had about 52,070 submission IDs in 2025. This was a substantial decline from 127,100 submission IDs in 2024, mostly due to the long outage in the second half of 2025.
Based on data from January to June, 2025, Furbitron predicted that SoFurry would have 102,000 submission IDs for all of 2025. The actual result was much lower than predicted.
SoFurry had two outages in 2025. The first one happened in the second half of January. The SoFurry admins stated that this was due to a hardware failure. This can (barely) be seen as a flat section in the past-year graph in late January, and a flat section in the grey line (2025) just before day 30 on the year-on-year graph.
The second outage started in early July and lasted for the rest of the year. This outage is why the year-on-year graph stops in early July. The SoFurry admins had been developing a new version of their site, with plans to go live around fall 2025. However, their ISP notified them of a large price increase that would take effect in August 2025. In response, the SoFurry admins decided to take their site offline on July 7th, purchase new hardware, install the new hardware at a new ISP, and run the new version of their site on the new hardware. Unfortunately, this took a long time, with the new site not opening until 2026.
Even though SoFurry is back online, Furbitron has not yet been updated to handle the new API presented by the new site. This is projected to happen around late January or February 2026.
SoFurry's best year ever was 2017, with about 166,700 submission IDs. It launched in spring 2006 and had about 6,700 submission IDs that year; 2007 was the first full year of operation, with about 23,900 submission IDs.
In 2025, SoFurry averaged about 280 posts a day.
Weasyl had about 100,100 submission IDs in 2025. This was a decline from 115,300 submission IDs in 2024.
Based on data from January to June, 2025, Furbitron predicted that Weasyl would have 102,000 submission IDs for all of 2024. The actual result was a little lower than predicted.
Weasyl's best year ever was 2014, with about 526,000 submission IDs. It launched in fall 2011 and had about 40 submission IDs that year; 2012 was the first full year of operation, with about 77,200 submission IDs. 2025 was the slowest full year for Weasyl since 2012.
In 2025, Weasyl averaged about 280 posts a day, the same as SoFurry.
The posts-per-day numbers are from Furbitron's regular daily statistics on January 1, 2026.
The submission ID counts in this post have been rounded off. They should be within about 1% of the un-rounded counts.
The owners of the various sites can directly query their site's database, so they may publish slightly different numbers than are found here.
The numbers here come from Furbitron's monitoring of the sites listed. The historical data was mostly gathered from the sites in September 2021. e621 and Furbooru both provide a dump of their site database, so the historical data for e621 came from that dump in September 2021, and the historical data for Furbooru came from that dump in April 2025.
Since then, Furbitron has done "live" monitoring of each site, once a day.
Thanks!
