 This is a small portion of a poem written by a friend of mine, I refuse to post the entire poem to prevent theft..



Pareidolia.

Seeing faces in meaningless patterns,

--the mind's greatest obsession--

like it's always searching for that one person to finish our myth,

until desperately,

it points to a random corner of the sky,

says, “This is your soul mate.”



And we believe it.

Believe the gods designed us worthless,

fragile as coal

so that we will never be complete

unless we crush ourselves

into the void of someone else’s expectations.



This is why we fall in love expecting to be shattered.

This is why we cling to the people who break us

and call them soul mates.

Because anything is better than being alone.



But I know what it is like to live

within the chest of a dead star,

and I will no longer settle for pareidolia.
