Haycinth
Darling Haycinth was a springtime foal, born during the great war to a beautiful mare and a horse-unicorn crossbreed stallion. The couple had not been partnered long before they had found themselves with foal, but gleefully celebrated the new life they would share. Haycinth's birth was spiritually magical for the couple and it felt that the world was just right in their own shared bubble.
Unfortunately, the time of magic ended abruptly when, during a surprise invasion of their village, the young mare was torn from the small but growing family. Dragged off, she neighed out for the stallion to hide their newfoal, and it was just that he did. He swiped up the child, muffling her cries with a quilted blanket the motherly mare had sewn, and hurried her away from the violence.
The stallion fled into the thick forestry surrounding the village at first, hoping his beloved mare would be set free and back in his arms. As weeks passed his hope of her return dwindled and he trailed further and further from his burned cottage in search of a safe haven. Eventually, he stopped at a small, quiet clearing and began to set up a homestead far away from the villages he once knew.
With all tragedies come the prospect of renewal and hope abloom. The stallion cleared the land with pride and used the lumber of the tree growth to construct a new cottage for him and his foal. He tilled the soil with his makeshift tools, and scattered seed he had gathered as he had traveled. He chose to live on the land, and it seemed the land also chose him for life too.
A few others eventually stumbled upon his clearing, setting up new homes for themselves as well. Little by little his solitude transformed into a humble community of friend folk. He could only appreciate the others and, despite his initial reluctance, grew to befriend all who came to call the space home.
Haycinth grew well too, feeding from the fresh vegetation that thrived under her father's care. She grew knowing the land and feeling confident with the wildlife and forestry surrounding her cabin home. She grew with a great love and admiration for her ever devoted father, and with a twinkling of sadness in her heart for the longing of her dearest mother.
The stallion's most precious times were spent with the young horse. He especially enjoyed teaching her how to tend to the garden, and, in turn, she taught him to relax from his perpetual nature of seriousness. Together, they went on enchanted adventures of make-believe while they watered the herbs and harvested crop.
