We knew it was gonna happen and soon, but my eldest cat, princess, passed on at some point in her sleep last night at nearly 20 years old. I had already left for work not knowing, thinking she was just still asleep and my spouse had found her after waking up some hours later. She did try to stay active all the way up to the end: eating, drinking, going to the litter box and doing her patrols as much as she could. She had passed on the position of enforcer to our, now, middle cat, Kitkat and peacekeeper to our eldest dog, Autumn. Autumn slept next to her last night until this morning when I took the two dogs out, sitting next to her when we came back in. I only realized now she was trying to protect her friend from Maple (younger dog and princess’s adopted daughter) who is still very rambunctious. She was a very caring cat and knew just when she was needed. Got me through a lot of tough times over the past 15 years. We even moved across the country to be with my spouse and we all moved across the nation again later on. She made sure all the other pets were cared for and often greeted visitors when they came over. She was a good cat and will be missed by us all.
