Kitsune Hybrids
Just a couple of species I came up with, if anyone feels like drawing or making a character of one... Oh, who'm I kidding?
Usagitsune: Born of a rabbit (usagi) doe and a kitsune tod. They most resemble their rabbit mother, but slightly larger, with a fox tail, sharp teeth, and a hoshi-no-tama embedded in their forehead. The hoshi-no-tama is a physical representation of their soul, and it grants them the same magical powers as their father. However, unlike a kitsune's tama, which is already loose and allows them to stay alive for a short time, hopefully long enough to retrieve it, if an usagitsune's tama is removed from their forehead, it is instant death.
Nezumitsune: Born of a mouse (nezumi) doe and a kitsune tod. They most resemble a mouse, but with sharper teeth and a hoshi-no-tama on their tail, which grants them the powers of their kitsune father. Like their father, if the tama is separated from them, they can survive long enough to hopefully retrieve it, but if they don't, they slowly perish.
Risune: Born of a squirrel (risu) doe and a kitsune tod. Looks like a larger squirrel with sharper teeth. They have a hoshi-no-tama, which they often store in their cheek pouches, and which gives them powers like their father's. If the tama is stolen from then, they gradually grow weaker until they retrieve it, and can even die if they fail to retrieve it.
Kinugetsune: Born of a hamster (kinugenezumi) doe and a kitsune tod. They most resemble their hamster mother, but grow to be far larger, and have sharp teeth and a foxlike tail. They store a hoshi-no-tama in their cheek pouches, which gives them kitsune powers but, if taken from them, is slowly fatal.
Yamaarashitsune: Born of a porcupine (yamaarashi) sow and a kitsune tod. They most resemble a porcupine, but have sharper teeth and a hoshi-no-tama embedded in their back, among their quills, which grants them kitsune powers. If the tama is somehow removed, it causes immediate death.
Araigitsune: Born of a raccoon (araiguma) sow and a kitsune tod. Often likened to a tanuki, due to having an extremely similar appearance, barring the male tanuki's infamously swollen scrotum. The hoshi-no-tama is much like that of the father kitsune, being loose and not particularly connected to any one place.
Hebitsune: Born of a female snake (hebi) and a kitsune tod. Whether oviparous or viviparous, the offspring very closely resembles the mother, unless they are using the magic inherited from their father. Their use of magic often involves setting themselves aflame with kitsunebi. The location of their hoshi-no-tama depends on the mother's species and the offspring's personal preference, but is often attached near the tip of the tail or, occasionally, to the underside of their neck. Like their fathers, if the tama is removed, they will slowly lose their life if they can't get it back.
Hatanetsune: Born of a vole (hatanezumi) doe and a kitsune tod. They are much like their vole mothers, but with a vulpine brush, sharper teeth, and a hoshi-no-tama embedded in their forehead. If the tama is removed, they perish instantly.
Shiko: Born of a shika (deer) doe and a kitsune tod. They resemble the species of their mother, but with vulpine markings and a longer fox tail. Their hoshi-no-tama is embedded in their head, between the antlers of antlered individuals, and, while its removal is fatal, the antlers are covered in "false tama", gaps in the antler with the same shape and size supported by bone which glow with the power of the real one.
Skuntsune: Born of a skunk sow and a kitsune tod, skuntsune resemble their mothers, but with white tail-tips and a hoshi-no-tama which can be moved. Some skuntsune choose to store their tama in their forehead or the roof of their mouth, but most prefer a placement on their tail, where most would be wary of approaching a skunk. If the tama is taken, it should be retrieved quickly, or the skuntsune will slowly perish.
Hitsune: Born of a hitsuji (sheep) ewe and a kitsune tod, hitsune resemble their mothers, but with sharper teeth and a vulpine tail. Their hoshi-no-tama is typically attached to their neck, much like where one would attach a bell, but is loose and free to be moved.
