Largest Pixel Art Project Attempted Nearing Completion (G)
https://itaku.ee/images/1256624
this ship is my largest pixel art project ever, consisting of six decks, each measuring 6000 by 1560 pixels (200 by 78 meters).
i've already figured out the math for the ship's fuel volume, mass, speed, range, ETC
the top two decks are already 100% done (labeled and everything!)
the third, fifth, and sixth decks have all had their interior finished, but i still need to fill in the void space, or the space in between the living area and the protective outer hull where most of the guts of the ship go. covenant ships are so far the only ships i develop void space for, partially because i care the most about the covenant out of any other sci-fi faction (weird childhood obsession that really stuck for some reason), and because i have everything scaled up 40% for the taller occupants, so in reality this is more of a 28 pixel per meter vessel instead of a 20. i have started to switch to 25 PPM for other factions like the galactic empire and its knockoffs, but i don't care enough about my other ships to put in the time to redraw my old arts, which is a shame but we all gotta make hard choices, don't we jimbo?
the fourth deck is the largest, and it's the one i'm working on now. it has just five rooms left, and two of them are mirrors of the other two, so i really only have three rooms left to draw. deck 4 will mostly be unlabeled because i don't like obscuring my artwork with labels. perhaps if i really cared in the future, i will make labeled and unlabeled versions but part of my pride as an artist is allowing observant users to deduce the purpose of each room based solely on visual queues. you'll want a program like XnView for windows, mac, or linux to view my art because most media apps blur pixels to "smooth" them instead of just relying on the artists to use anti-aliasing in their own works. i LIKE seeing neat little squares everywhere, personally.
this ship does have an exterior 3D turntable made by adamkop, but he forgot to add external weapons, so right now it's basically just a small mixed-purpose freighter even though i have it penned as an escort. i will reupload the GIF turntable if i end up needing to. adam kopala has several projects that have been paid for that he needs to work on. it's been 8 weeks since i last heard back from him. i am used to him generally responding every 5 weeks, but i'm sure he has a valid reason again (last time in december, he fell on some ice at a parking lot and needed hand stitched). adamkop is my go-to artist with 20-ish projects of ours under his belt and i always make sure to have a project with him at any given time because of his long response times and work speed. fortunately, his sizeable backlog has given me time to fund more furry art. we've got a week and a half left until payday, i'm very excited!
my next project will be a 300 meter long covenant CRS-class light cruiser, the smallest canon ship in the game and the only one i can feasibly make plans for at a scale you can view close detail at. i will have to keep each of the 8 decks as separate 6000-pixel PNGs because larger images take more RAM to view and especially edit, even if storage space isn't an issue. i think i'm limited to about 8500 pixels, which would be either 340 or 425 meters long, basically the Seawise Giant (Rest In Peace).
all of these scifi writers writing 30-kilometer supercarriers really haven't thought about the logistics of the square-cube law: doubling hull length doubles the number of decks and quadruples the area of each deck. an increase of length by 25.9% doubles volume. the CSO-class would actually have detectable gravity anomalies from within the ship if it were outside of a planet's gravity well. but i guess that just shows you how advanced the covies are.
i plan on making floor plans for the Great Fox but i will have to use 6.667 PPM scale for that.
