RIP Kia, the happiest, most positive dog I'll ever know. (G)
From what I've been told. My Late uncle, whom worked in construction, stole Kia from an abusive home up in Portland, OR while working on a project there. She was in pretty bad shape, and my uncle's sweet heart brought her in even though he wasn't very able to take care of himself.
Though Kia wasn't being beaten, she was fed fast food resulting in her gaining a lot of weight. His wife, my aunt, died from OD, and we took him and Kia in during these hard times.
It wasn't until then that I actually knew he even had a dog. She was in bad shape. It was obvious her lifespan was going to be short. But the first out-most quality I could see in her was how friendly and loving she was. After learning of her past, I was astonished at her spirits. She was always so energetic and positive even though should could barely lift herself.
Time went on, and my uncle died of a heart attack. From that point on, Kia was ours, and we had already accepted her into our family. At this time, she was already hit badly with arthritis. After long visits to the vet, it was decided to just ride her out on pain pills and the like to keep her happy because the extensive work to try and revive her back legs and the weight problem would probably be too hard on her in the end.
It had gotten to that point. She no longer would even perk her ears up or wag her tail. If she had to go, she would just pee where she lay, and sometimes would shake profusely until the meds kicked in. We had a vet come out, and have her sleep peacefully. Not in pain anymore. She's now in our backyard giving the remnants of her loving heart to the earth. I will miss her.
