Weather, Land Spirits, and Events
18 years agoPup and I currently have the misfortune of living in central Utah. This area is a desert scrub land type area with your standard four seasons yet with very low humidity year round (generally below 10%). This year has been particularly strange. Some of the major news stations did the cover the wild fires that happened here with in the past several weeks. The fire ended up burning about 60 square miles of land. We happened to be in the south central part of it and not have to evacuate. Our town and two others were on high alert, some being evacuated, some leaving due to horrendous air quality.
In the aftermath of this fire, with a short spattering of rain several days ago, we are now experiencing incredibly high humidity levels (creeping up to 35%, possibly higher). It feels horribly wet all the time now, and my joints ache as if I was back in the south eastern US. The air quality seems to be remaining some-what poor, the smell of smoke, soot, ash, and other burned things take their sweet time to dissipate. From what I can tell, the result of this chaos, there has been a sizable stomach virus out break that is similar to the flu that seems to cause rapid dehydration. What I found strange about this happening was that usually people with the flu aren't send home with IV ports still in so that they can go back into the ER to get their levels of hydration back up. Also, the local clinic has called in Doctors from towns as far as 45 minutes away to assist in handling the load.
After living here and there from as far west Utah, as far east as Georgia in the south and Ohio in the north, and then traveling even further for visits, I have come to the conclusion that resident spirits and the land itself are beginning to defend themselves. I do worry for the years to come and wonder how far it will go.
Has anyone else had similar experiences with weather in their regions, noticed other similar disturbances, or have been mentally more uncomfortable with previously tolerable/comfortable surroundings? I would like to hear thoughts, experiences, and opinions. Thanks for reading.
