There is only one police officer in the small town of West Woodburn, England. His name is Forty-Two, and he is a Dog. Genetically engineered and bred to conform to the ideal standard, he can do anything a human can. His kind are so dedicated to their task that society no longer sees any reason to pay for human police.
Forty-Two's quiet, rural life is shattered when a murderer begins stalking everyone the Dog has ever called friend.
The greatest scientific advancements come from war, and the Dog program is no exception. Originally developed as living weapons for World War II, it wasn't long after that they were repurposed to their current role. It's only been fifty years, and not all men have forgotten that Dogs, like their masters, fought on both sides.
Forty-Two must track down the killer and suppress the case before an inquiry can be launched. Any investigation into Forty-Two's own past would reveal that he too has secrets to hide. While he is far too young to have any memories of war, Forty-Two's unmasking would destroy all confidence in the Dogs that now carry the justice system.
A field trip is far more fun when you're human. For Forty-Two and his brothers it is nothing more than yet another test. The three of them must not only be the hunters, but also the prey in an extravagant game of hide-and-seek that will prove their worth.
Not everyone can win.

Whatever it takes...
Great chapter! Forty-One is love <3 but something tells me that they... didn't do well? Which is odd cause they should promote Forty-Two's excellent cognitive skills. Seeing there individual personalities come out was awesome, especially since they were born in a lifeless, controlling place like the Kennel.
Now if only there were more clues about what the experiment is... on to Thursday!

Thanks.
This was an attempt on my part to round out Forty-One and Sixty. They get so little screen time that they came off as very one dimensional characters.
As Forty-Two learned, all the brains in the world can't make up for bad luck. In this case it was Forty-One who paid the price.
Forty-Two and Sixty did great. The two of them finished all their objectives and made it to the end of the exercise. Forty-One on the other hand...
And everything will come clear in time, just no time soon.
