That kind of texture can often be accomplished with applying a large paper texture to your color layer. Make sure the paper texture is big enough that it doesn't tile any.
Also, Paint Shop Pro has some great brushes I hear, which, with a graphics tablet, could also do this.
Still, this can be fun, more personal, and sellable. Originals go for more than prints... usually.
