It was quite an adventure, really. I had to learn to model (better than my first model), unwrap UVs, texture, create and rig a skeleton, and learn blendshaping facial expressions, though I only bothered with one.
I consulted 2 books, 3 DVDs, 2 websites, and plenty of Google for small problems. It took a long, long time, no formal previous training, personal feedback or whatnot, just a pile of information and my own determination. I did a lot of things the "old school" way, without a lot of scripts or plugins, which I think was a good idea. I know a lot of internal workings that should really help as I get better.
