ARTISTS: BE BRUTALLY HONEST
The strongest ninja lion in all of the furry fandom. His human self first learned of the fandom a few years ago, and has been following them ever since. He dedicates his battles to Anthrocon, fighting malicious forces that dare to hurt his friends', or the fandom's, reputation. His furry fans look up to him as a hero, just as he looks up to them as the best of friends. Along with Anthrocon, he holds one lioness close to his heart: Leona Mika, his crush.
Whenever danger arises, the ninja lion will be there to fight in the name of love and justice... and cookies. His previous karate experience passed on from his human self is his main combat style. He has also been taught in the ways of the ninja through watching a lot of anime. Combined with his passion for cartoon animal characters, this shinobi is unstoppable.
This drawing was partially influenced by my appreciation for the BlazBlue franchise (as evidenced by the "crest" and the "astral heat").
Actually, this drawing is more of a character concept rather than a drawing. This was just something I was experimenting with while listening to Thor's Theme from Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds.
Well, here he is once more. This is a more updated character concept of my fursona. It's still not an official reference considering that again it's a character concept and that there is no colour in this picture. With that said, this is the main outfit I have established for Leo (though I do want to get rid of the little Japanese characters on the shirt - including the little ember inside - and leave the big character alone). I use this character concept more often when getting commissions from other talented artists.
I have to say that I'm proud with what I drew here. I'm absolutely in love with the crest I made for my fursona. I based it off of a fire label I found as a reference on Google Images; I was able to imitate the overall shape of the inner flame freehand, and then I spiced it up a lot to make the crest my own. The thumbs-up/fist took a hell of a lot of trial-and-error tracing, but then I tried freehand after a while, and it actually looks half-decent. I was finally able to draw the tail thick enough to my liking. I also threw on a paw-print tattoo on his right arm as an experiment; I think it looks badass! I also tried out some action poses to make up for how rigid the main pose is. I got the idea of drawing the bandages and ninja sandals from looking up images of Naruto (specifically of the character Neji Hyuuga). Plus I always get a kick of how I drew my fursona as a chibi in the bottom-right corner. COOKIE!
Looking at this drawing once more, I cannot believe how rigid I made my main stance. I could be overanalysing it; I feel happy that looks somewhat natural, but something tells me I could've done something to it to make it more dynamic. Speaking of which, I know I could've done a bit better with the other poses around the main pose. Though each different one were fairly good tries, I still need to practice drawing more dynamic poses and stances. If anything, I'm not happy with the stance in the top-left corner the most. He looks like a string bean with his arms stretched out like that. I know I drew a little shuriken bag behind Leo, but I'm thinking of getting rid of it. Side views of faces are once again not my forte this time around; I'll probably have to practice drawing muzzles and in different viewpoints, too. Though I do like the thumbs-up/fist, I also don't like it either. How can I draw fists properly? It's also not often that I draw feet-paws (though they look more like feet this time around). It may be a fairly good try, but I need to do better than that and soon. Clothing folds are very awkward for me to draw, too. Plus I should consider drawing the hair bangs a bit bigger. Truth be told, I draw bangs like that to hide my awful ear designs; if anything, I need more help with ears and ear placement.
With all of that in mind, I love this picture overall. Like the past couple of submissions, it's a different change of pace in terms of character concept design/layout. And still have a couple more where that came from.

Yeah, see, I knew there was something off about those lower legs. Hell, I think I'm struggling with them a bit along with... well pretty much everything else.
I just don't know how thick is too thick as far as the upper arms or how long legs should be. I'm just afraid of screwing up the first time around and fear that I just keep repeating my mistake. I know it's suggested to draw over the mistakes or draw the structures multiple times until I get something going, but... I just wish could be better faster.
Just check out my Vilppu Practice and Sketchbook Practice segments (in my "Scraps" section), and you'll see what I've been struggling with.

That's actually a good question. I know I wanted some kanji on the shirt when designing the character concept. But I also realised that I don't know how to write Japanese, let alone speak it (but I really wish I did learn someday). That said, I wanted to use some kind of kanji that's both simple for anyone to replicate yet speaks volume of my fursona. To be fair, I do have the kanji for "fire" on one of my earlier character concepts, but I went with the kanji for "power" because it's already big and strong-sounding, and it's somewhat symbolic; if I need to come up with a more specific answer, it's sort of like it's centered in the shirt as it represents power within. Of course, that in mind, I sometimes wonder if I should ever want to replace that kanji with the one for "fire" or even for any other word/phrase (as long as it's easy for me and anyone else to write). But for now, I'm just keeping things simple enough. Hope that helps.
