Personally, I think the tail's a bit too high. It should connect along the tailbone, not the small of the small of the back.

Yeah, i have a good grasp of optimal tail placement. As far as wearing a tail of this particular design though, pants tend to get in the way.

As for the picture, i set my camera on delay and got into position. That's pretty much how i take all of my pics! There were a lot that weren't as good as this one.

Yeah, I know what you mean about feeling better about yourself when you get a compliment, putting up some pics and having people tell me they like what they see was one of the biggest confidence boosters I ever got.

I made it out of a long wig wrapped around a cardboard tailbone. It's a good idea, because i like the fact that it sticks out (unline most dangly horsetails people have) but i need to make a better one... the problem with this one is that the tailbone is too rigid, and it makes sitting down a real pain in the ass... literally :P

How did you make the head?

It's made out of celluclay, which is sort of like... sculptable paper-pulp. So it's hard... and it's not furred, either. It was the first costume item i made, so it was a learning process...

Can you make a how-to for us ignoramuses?

I seriously thought from teh thumbnail that this was a photomanip. Good work on that horse-head-- do you have a better pic of it? BTW, the tail is cool too. Whats' that made out of again?

The tail is made from a long wig that i attached to a cardboard 'tailbone'. The red wrap on the top is basically there to hide that part :P

Wait a couple of decades to see what stem cell therapy comes up with. If it can replace broken organs it should be able to produce custom ones too. Growing simple stuff like skin and bone is technically possible already, and that's mostly all you'd need combined with a lot of surgery. The two decade wait is for this kind of tech to become widely available enough that it isn't just for saving lives.

That, and figuring out how to add the hair

...And getting people to encourage the research instead of trying to outlaw it >.<
The future holds interesting things though, that's for sure. I'm not too old yet, so i'll get to see some of this.

Maybe if we can make it a fashion statement?.. make it the new tribal tattoo to have a tail or horn and sneak the rest in bit by bit as fasion waves dictate.

Nobody can outlaw research worldwide. If there's any good that can come from it and money to be made, somebody will do it. All you achieve by making new tech illegal is to make sure that when it becomes popular, you have nobody at home that knows how to do it.

What I worry about is what happens when we get far enough that whole body chromosome transplants are possible. That's when whatever you've done to yourself happens to your kids too. Lawmakers are really not going to like that.

Yeah, it's something that has affected my life greatly... I do think sometimes i have a connection with them on a spiritual level. Horse soul! And the love i have for equine kind is what keeps me going through my darker times.

Wow! incredible job for the materials you had. and we can all dream cant we? Do you have the same problem I do with the tail? When I wear one all weekend for a con, I spend the next week missing the bump and swish against my legs. ^_^

It does feel awfully nice having a tail... especially when i don't have pants on, it's wonderful when it swishes against my bare legs. :)

I need to make one that's more comfortable though, so i can wear it for days at a time. heh
I can't sit down in this one really, or lay on my back at all, because the tailbone is too rigid. :-/

Got it on ebay a while back... it's made by 'alter-ego' ...i just went to see if i could find a similar one, but didn't. But, it's pretty well made, and i think it was worth the cost.

Cool pic, mask and tail look great What'd you use as for the tail? As for hooves, they're not that hard to make, I've got 2 sets, different mediums. One set's made from wood, the other fiberglass.

Yeah, i have hooves to go with this costume, as well as armor/clothing. I made these things a couple years ago now, but was moving some stuff around and pulled them out.

I have one of the latex costume horse heads in chestnut - bought from ebay - which can look quite good if you disguise the neck join with clothing. I did a couple of short videos of me wearing it and playing with a bit / whinnying and snorting a lot ! Not sure where I put them - if I find them out I might post a few stills ! { I don;t look as purty though - more comical ! }

I'm another pony at - I'd quite happily become a 24/7 pony given the chance ... and wouldnt be bothered if I were mare or stallion - just love being part of a herd !

WHEN I win the lottery I'll make sure some of it goes on research into pony-morphic genetic modification

I really like the head... small and realistic. What manner of creation/materials did you use?

It's mostly made out of celluclay and cardboard... so it's relatively strong and light, but definitely not soft like a normal fursuit head would be. But the detail is greater as well, as far as the shape.

I think when I make myself a suit, I'm gonna make a head like that. I just don't know what to use for a base/frame to build around. Maybe some sort of wire? Coat hangers, maybe?
I've already got the best idea for hooves ever.

I found that cardboard worked well. And since i used celluclay for the majority of the shaping of this head, it adhered nicely to the carboard (both paper-based)

Though if i did it again i would use some foam too.

That's just air-dry, right? Where could I find something like that? Never hear dof celluclay.

You can find it at most craft stores... Michael's carries it. ...I'm not really sure what section it'd be in, because i've only bought it once (i got a 5-lb bag... and 5lbs dry is a LOT, because you only need a little bit of it to work with when you add the water)
But someone there would be able to tell you.
Yeah, air-dry... it does take a day or two to fully dry though.

Well, i do most of my art while i'm at work... so it's a better usage of time that would otherwise be wasted, i think. So that way i get time to sleep :P

Yeah, i made the head and the tail a couple years ago. They along with the hooves i made then were my first costuming experiment.

I know you said the red wrap was there partly for practical reasons, but the red is a nice choice. Nothing adds punctuation to black leather and platinum/white hair like that little touch of red that says "look at my ass" *grin*

I must say, I am in awe of the horse head piece . . and you say that was the first costume item you made? An excellent start *grin* It isn't soft and "furry" of course, but it looks to me rather like a Greek marble come to life . . and yeah, as someone mentioned above such smooth skin :0 I've been told I make a nice female as well, but if skin shows, I have to shave it :P Anyway, you look very statuesque in this lighting especially . . .

It wasn't really difficult, though i was learning as i went along... and i spent a long time fine tuning it until i was satisfied with the shape. Probably a 5 out of 10.
