Mhh, that depends. If you "go birding" on a regular basis you start to know on which branch which kind of bird like to sit. Of course, it may take some time - but i usually dont wait longer than half an hour.
There are exceptions. If iam after some rare birds, especially birds of prey, ill stay longer cause they are usually out hunting.
