Allo again *waves* Okay for my next step after completing my skeletal structure I like to ruff out the base cause then it can at least sit proper and i know how it'll look.
My base's are always an actual part of the sculpture. I know you can make one that the sculpture can detach to at the end but I haven't learned that yet and to be honest I've gotten rather fond of turning the base into a part of my work. On that note the base for this piece will actually be a mini whole carousel. Which I think when all is said and done should look pretty cool. I used the pink Super Sculpey for the carousel base. The pink is one of my fave ones to use cause it's firm enough without being difficult and can still sculpt good detail. I've used the super sculpey grey which is really firm but a pain to work with and also the white sulpey original which when worked in the palm gets super soft but firms when cooled.
It's the white original Sculpey I used to help bulk up his center mass. I used this one because it's terrible for detail due to its wider rang of states, soft to firm but because of this it's perfect for working into and around all your twisted wires. When soft you can just press n ooze into all the crevasses ^ ^ When not touched it firms at room temp in mins and luckily has the same baking temps as the pink Sculpey which I'll be covering it all with.
I'm thinking about leaving the wire connecting the base to the character as is hence no clay and just painted which may give it a lil wiggle in the end. Gotta do that or bulk it up lots. I fear a thin layer of clay over that section may crack. But I do like the idea that the character is going to be mostly floating. End result should be pretty neat if all goes well. I like to push my limits with each piece I make. Just check through my gallery and you'll see the progression in the creativity in my work. Just like to try new things *wags*
If ya look careful at the base I pressed a ruff design pattern of how I want to make the carousel. I won't worry about detail on that for awhile cause i gotta manhandle the hell out of these in the creation process heh well the earlier stages.
Bonus tip. Something ya can't see but will be immensely helpful is that covering about 80% of the underside of the base is a square of plastic wrap. It'll make it so you don't have to peel your piece off your table lol I had to pry a few pieces off mine and omg there's a lot of touche ups after that believe me. The plastic wrap peels off nicely and helps make it easy to pick your piece up when needed. Take off before baking though yah, don't be a derp *giggles* well that's it for now.
Next step, adding first layer of skin o.O
