Someone whose job it is to be able to read clients can't tell the truth of that story? Either Luther's just that deep into himself, or something's clouding Amon's skills. (I'm leaning the latter.) So why does Amon seem so concerned about how he's viewed when it comes to Luther? [/rhetorical]
My thinking is that Amon feels enough of a connection with Luther that Amon shares something that concerns him with ALL clients: that he's too old or the wrong race or somehow inadequate. I don't think it's specific to feeling insecure around Luther, but Amon is intrigued enough by Luther that he opens up a bit about himself (perhaps inadvertently) while hoping to get information. I didn't read it as Amon's judgment being clouded so much as him just not having had m/any clients w like Luther, who isn't just a sex-crazed guy who can fuck him emotionlessly. Also, maybe Amon has had people sweet-talk him and end up hurting him somehow... he doesn't work in a profession that really instills a lot of trust in humanity. Just my thoughts!

Buying Amon would not solve anything. Luther would have to buy Amon, free him and hope he would stay with him. WHile it has worked out in some stories, I don't think AMon has that much invested into this 'relationship', as Luther is still 'just' a client.
I also don't think Amon is insecure here. He just has some pride in his work. There is little else a slave can be proud of and it might help to keep a sense of self-worth.

Plus, Amon as he is? Pretty expensive, considering the huge amount money he blew on the first night was not enough. Luther is rich, but he is clearly of the poorer nobility.
So, even if he wanted to, buying Amon would take money from his family back home. Which i doubt he is willing to risk.

I love how much character development you put into stories, it just makes the characters so much more appealing.
It's really a shame that Amon's only experience with sex is work-related: it really numbs the intimacy associated with it. Amon can't imagine that sex can be anything more than fleeting pleasure because he's been deprived of love for his whole life. Sold into bondage at a young age, never knowing a family outside the brothel, drug addiction, depression, and problems with intimacy.
...tales from another broken home. We've all known someone like Amon at one point in our lives :(. But hang in there, it gets better! ...or at least it will if you tear down the wall.

Hm...Luther's been clinging to his non-consummation philosophy for several years now. I think it's gonna take a hell of a lot for his defense mechanism to completely melt. The Cathazra already have a hit on him, maybe if/when he does fully make love to Amon it'll be one of those "what the hell, I'll be dead tomorrow anyway" scenarios.

Hey, plenty of girls can sleep around without falling in love, I figure some guys can do vice versa
Though, there are plenty of good reasons for Amon NOT to get too involved with this guy. I get the sad feeling that if they do become lovers everything Mikhail warned Luther about will happen.

I'm the same a Luther. I totally get it. As for Luther's last comment, though, I would think it'd be somewhat obvious that someone who's called a whore on a daily basis has confidence issues. When you don't even own yourself, when you've been bought and paid for--your innocence sold as a commodity--isn't that kind of a no-brainer that the mind might leap to that place?
