It's been awhile since I've actually painted something - just values and colors with no line. I've never quite grasped the subtleties of textures or fine details.

I chose a portrait, used an image of Soren for reference ;)

There's an interesting canvas-like texture to this. I don't think that its artifact-- looks intentional. How did you produce that effect? Was it an effect that you added after completion? Wonderful stuff.

SAI has texturing abilities both for its canvas and its brushes. I rarely use them because it can be distracting, but it seemed alright on this one. Even if it is digital, I love going for the traditional look if I can :)

Beautiful work, as always. I love the emotion you've portrayed in the eyes, and the blue and green dabs, they seem to add extra depth to the piece. It's deceptively simple.
