I think people are just tired of the meme that everything is apparently a sergal.
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/5900510/
I personally just find it funny because it's so absurd XD
I too think it looks like a sergal with the square face and such.
But that's just it, don't sergals have pointed shark snouts? It was once their most infamous feature outside of the clitoral hood thingy.
But I know Synx was created long before Sergals.
I actually don't know about that specifically, but if we're talking about "crashing the scene" I think I was indeed around in public view first, just going with my submissions to LiveJournal/VCL/FA beta/etc. Sergals came after but they exploded in popularity the moment they appeared, while I built a lot of slow momentum in getting my species noticed. That's ok though, it's nice to know if Synx were a home console, they'd be a PS3.

The way I see it, it's not just an opinion, but an assertion that "this is a ripoff sergal design" with the ":/" expression in the end.
That and a lot of people (both artists and audience) are fed up from that sort of comment. If you say "omg that looks like a Charizard from Pokéfart xDDDD" it's discrediting towards the artist's design skills. And when you compare it to somebody else's design, then it gets hurtful on different levels.
If it were a blatant rip-off, that would be understandable. But the similarities between a Synx and a Sergal are very marginal. So couple that with these sort of comments being a trigger at this point and this backlash is to be expected.
I'm not defending anybody, only reason why I'm speaking this out is that I get such comments occasionally. It is very annoying to get such a comment to a design of yours, being compared to something that is vaguely similar. It's on the level of me saying that your current icon looks just like Peacock from Skullgirls, loosely based on the clothing.

It's understandable though. Sergals were the first original bipedal-like species to get noticed to the insane extent they have. Now every original species that gets noticed will forever be "a sergal" in some people's eyes. Because hey, if it's not a canine, feline, etc. ...what else could it be?
It's something I've long learned to live with, so whatevs =D

I understand, and I will say that way to many people seem to jump the gun on thinking something is just another version of a sergal. Just thought though that it was a bit of flack for such a small comment that I really don't think was meant to be rude but came off as such. Either way though the two races have HUGE differences in body type and structure and the meme puts it in the best perspective.
I just saw a big spike in activity on my page and I was just thinking: "This is creepy... .__." Because that's the kind of person I am.
Little did I know, it was creepy.
Oh wow, THANK YOU for this!!! ;___: It's freaking beautiful. That is the happiest Synx I have ever seen!

Aww. That's creeptastic! XD
Actually i wanted to draw him pull his skin up like the roach from Men in Black. But my lack of skill made it impossible XD Next time I will try that ;D
But...I don't know - it turned out very strange. I wanted it to be creepy, but it is kinda silly and a little bit cute. What makes it creepy again o_o i'm confused by this picture...
Anyway. I'm very glad you like it never the less <3

I recently found out about the synx and started doing all kinds of research and looking at art because it was FASCINATING though incredibly morbid.
I must say, although I have kind of been a sensitive person to creepy things all my life, this in particular kept drawing me in counter intuitively. When I found the Synx, my old fears crept up, hairs on the back of the neck, nightmares about synxes in my room, hell for awhile, I was scared of synxes in the dark.
yet, crazily enough...
I love it! I really think ChimeraSynx has done a good thing getting me used to such a creepy and disturbing character. I've been learning to deal with my anticipation of imagining a Synx right around that dark corner...and having fun with it, instead of being terrified.
And so, I love this picture, I love his expression, I love how I'm imagining myself there, with that anticipation, that fear in the back of my mind, but then I turn it to excitement, and I smile at this creature and make a face back, "Hi, Synx!"
Hehe.
