A neat little factoid?
Foxes have magnetic bacteria in one of their eyes that align to the earth's magnetic field. This generates a polarization effect in one eye, enabling them to see magnetic lines of force. They then use those lines, together with their hearing, to triangulate the precise location of the prey under the snow.
The only problem, is that it only works when the fox is facing magnetic north.

Yes, that was one of the articles (from 2011) I had come across. From it:
It’s tantalising to imagine foxes hunting with just such a display, and Červený mentions the possibility. However, that’s just speculation. As Wiltschko points out, we only know that the radical pairs contribute to the magnetic sense of birds – they’ve never been found in mammals. But at least now, we have an obvious place to look.
Emphasis mine. I haven't been able to find anything more recent that corroborates this speculation. It'd be cool if it's true, but we don't seem to really know yet.
