Clash in Duel World pt. 7 (By Any Other Name)
It's taken WAY too long for me to finish this. Gotta say, I'm starting to really love Plant Decks. Oh well… Here's to maybe not letting college getting in the way again.
Anywho, As usual:You shouldn't be reading this story unless you've read this section first. (https://www.furaffinity.net/view/8657958/)

Clash in Duel World
Pt.7 By Any Other Name
Deep within the Forest Area of Duel World a giant figure breaks out of the ground as if it were his own grave. Running through the darkness of the underground tunnels caused him to be more than a little disoriented on the surface. The real sunlight blinded him even as the beast collapsed chest first. His tongue rolled onto the cool grass. Despite the warmth of the outside world, his hot breath could still be seen for at least nine more seconds. He forced his tongue back into his mouth as he pushed himself to rise back to his feet. The beast’s form slowly shrank back down to his normal size.
Rocky quickly matted down his fur to look as normal as possible. He had to keep moving, but Rocky stopped. Where was his shirt? Rocky couldn’t quite remember when it finally fell off. Some new pants too because these ones were all ripped up. He couldn’t get to where he was going without raising suspicions if he went there half-naked. Mama would be so mad that Marshal had let him… Rocky sat back down head in his hands. He thought that he had run out of tears by now.
“… my life his over…”
“And that’s the whole story,” Marshal finished explaining to Trina and Arthur by phone from the underground. Marshal had a cellphone that he used for emergencies such as this, but Rocky’s was charging at the hotel. Thunderbird had taken him to one of the Underground’s break rooms, in the very least to settle his own nerves with a nice pot of herbal tea.
“I can’t believe you did that,” Trina shouted from her end of the line.
“Me!?! What about Rocky!”
“No, I mean I can’t believe you did that to him,” Trina shouted again.
“Me neither Marshal,” Arthur chimed in, “it’s not like you to go behind other people’s backs!”
“Now hold on. I had complete faith in Rocky,” Marshal argued back, “he’s never once lied to me before and…”
“You’re the one that broke his trust. You had no right butting into his private conversations like that,” Arthur took the phone from Trina’s hands, “how would you feel if you were in his fur?”
“Why are you two so mad a me! He’s the one that lied to all of us,” Marshal waited for a response, but none came, “…wait. He did lie to you too, right?”
“Well, I… uh… always suspected things, but um… I uh-”
Trina took this moment to take the phone from the dragon’s grasp, “you know as well as me that Rocky never lies.”
“YOU KNEW,” Marshal shouted, “Both of you! For how long!”
“Since we asked him, Nimrod,” Trina’s words hit Marshal almost as hard as Trina’s own fist would have, “but he begged us to keep quiet about it until he was brave enough to tell you.”
“Brave enough to…? Brave Rocky Balebone was afraid to tell me? He’s my best friend.”
“It’s because you are his best friend,” Trina tried to explain, “he cares what you think of him. You have no idea how afraid he was that this would happen.”
“All I did was find out. It’s not like I hate him for it.”
“Marshal, we’ve all got secrets that we don’t want to tell others about until we are ready,” Trina paused before she whispered into the receiver so that Taro wouldn’t hear her, “Like me with my father or even Chad.”
“But I’ve known him longer than either of you…”
“I don’t know! Maybe because I trusted Rocky with my secrets first, Marshal.”
“Mine too,” Arthur took this moment to take over the conversation, “I mean… you know about my past now, but Rocky didn’t say a word for months before I was ready to tell everyone.”
“… I’m sorry,” Marshal sighed again. The truth was that Marshal felt betrayed when he learned that Rocky had been pretending to be incompetent all these years. Before that… it was just something about Rocky that made him feel uneasy. Yet… the more Marshal thought about it… Rocky was always there when the cat needed him. Even if Marshal never realized it himself.
“You guys are right,” Marshal bit his lip, “If it weren’t for Rocky, I would have never made any friends again. Let alone such great friends as the two of you… to help me see the world clearer.”
“Thanks,” Trina spoke quickly, “but what are we going to do about it now? Do you have any clues to where he would run off to?”
“I’m sure he’ll just run around to blow off some steam then come back home when he’s hungry,” Marshal laughed at his own joke, but the other furs didn’t so much as chuckle.
“Marshal, I know that you can’t see my face right now, but This Is Not My Happy Face,” Trina yelled, “Rocky’s not just angry right now. He’s scared and confused.”
“Not to mention powerful,” Thunderbird interjected from behind Marshal with a couple cups of hot tea, “Even my strongest men can’t rip holes through those steel doors like-”
“Rocky did what,” Trina and Arthur shouted in unison.
“I thought you guys knew his secrets.”
“I knew Rocky was stronger than he let on, but I never thought he could do something like that,” Arthur put a claw to his chin to think, “This is worse than we thought.”
“It seems that the pathway he created leads out to the Forest near where you all are,” Thunderbird mentioned, “You should-ah!”
“What’s wrong Thunderbird?”
Thunderbird gripped his right hand. He felt like his arm was on fire. That’s when he saw an eerie green glow surrounding his pinkie finger. On touching this glow, Thunderbird suddenly remembered the promise he had made to the pup.
“Son of a…,” Thunderbird stopped himself in time, “I can’t believe this.”
“What’s wrong,” Marshal noticed the glow himself, “what is that?”
“It’s the finger that Rocky and I pinkie swore with,” Thunderbird slowly rubbed the glow away, “I made a promise that if he told the whole truth, then I wouldn’t send anyone or anything after him or the rest of you.”
“Then that glow was…”
“A subtle reminder of the consequences should I go back on my word.”
“… Guys, find Rocky.”
“Now hold on-” Thunderbird raised a hand to object.
“You promised Rocky that You wouldn’t send anyone after Us, but I certainly didn’t make such a promise,” Marshal turned back to the phone, “Find Rocky. Tell him that I’m sorry, okay? And do it fast!”
“Aye Aye Captain,” Trina joked as she hang up leaving Marshal alone with Thunderbird again.
“Any pain?”
“No, It seems to have gone away,” Thunderbird rubbed his cursed digit, “you know, you’re smarter than I gave you credit for.”
“Gee, Thanks,” Marshal rolled his eyes as he placed his cellphone down to take up his own cup of tea.
“I mean it,” Thunderbird took a sip of own drink, “most people that I work with are completely incompetent… save for any one of the Hidden Duelists.”
“I still don’t see how that was a compliment.”
“As a natural profiler, I tend to know more about other people than they know themselves,” Thunderbird pointed at Marshal, “but you. You’re the first person that knows himself. That’s a sign of a great man.”
“I’m not sure what you mean by that, but I think I get the gist of it.”
“Have you ever heard the term, “To conquer your enemy, you must first conquer yourself”?”
“So if you can defeat yourself, then you can defeat your enemies?”
“No. That’s not what I meant at all. Well, take this new Hidden Duelist,” Thunderbird leaned back on his chair, “he’s this Tediursa Pokémorph by the name of-”
Thunderbird was interrupted by the sound of Marshal’s ringtone. Marshal snapped the phone back up faster than a viper strike. He assumed it was Trina calling back to say that they found Rocky already, but the voice on the other end spoke louder and faster.
“WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO MY BOYFRIEND!”
“GAH,” Marshal took a moment to rub the ringing out of his ears before he dared speaking to the caller, “Lilly? What are yo-”
“Don’t play dumb with me KittyCat,” the speaker named Lilly shouted loud enough for Thunderbird to hear her, “I know you did something to him.”
“What makes you say that?”
“I just got off the phone with Rocky. He was crying his eyes out, mumbling something about his life being over and then, for no reason, he just broke up with me.”
“Seriously,” Marshal was genuinely stunned, “Rocky called you?”
Thunderbird happened to be taking a sip of his tea when he heard that statement, it took him a millisecond for him to realize the relationship that this female speaker had with Marshal, but more specifically Rocky. He spat a mist of herbal tea into the air before he started gagging on some of it that went down the wrong throat.
“Hold on,” Marshal put a hand to the receiver, “you okay?”
Thunderbird nodded as he coughed a few moments before he asked, “… Rocky has a girlfriend?”
“Yeah. So?”
“I’m sorry,” Thunderbird put a hand to his head, then lowered himself to lean in closer to Marshal, “is there something wrong with her?”
“Ya know,” Marshal thought about it, “there was, but she’s gotten better.”
“Huh? What’s that supposed to mean,” Lilly shouted from the other end.
“Listen, Lilly,” Marshal stood and paced quickly, “Rocky’s run away. I can’t tell you why, but he’s a little bit-”
“Well, I already knew that much!”
“Ask her to tell us everything she heard,” Thunderbird stated, “maybe it will help you narrow down where he is, by finding out where he called from.”
“Good plan,” Marshal turned back to his phone, “Did you catch that Lilly?”
“Sure, I heard him,” Lilly paused for a second, “but it would be easier if we could do this in person.”
“In person? Lilly, you do know that we’re in Duel World and you’re not, right?”
“Actually, I was going to surprise you guys,” Lilly mentioned, “I’m getting off the boats in about five minutes.”
“You’re what?”
“I said that I’m getting off the boats in,” Lilly paused as she contemplated if jumping the boat would be faster than letting it dock first, “why am I repeating this to you? If you want what I know then I’ll meet you in Starter City.”
“Wait Lilly-,” Marshal tried to argue, but Lilly’s brown patched hand snapped her cellphone shut. Lilly then readjusted the flower in her head fur to her liking. She played around a bit longer by admiring her large brown eyes and how they complimented her fine cream colored fur. Her leaf like tail wagged as she thought about how Rocky would be so happy to see his wonderful Leafeon girlfriend. Surely, Rocky didn’t mean what he said.
After all, she was way out of his league and he knew it. Though, as she thought about it… perhaps it was that very attitude that made him want to break up with her. She’s been trying so hard not to be vain anymore. He was the only other person who honestly liked her for… well, her. And she loved how innocent Rocky was. How he made her feel like a young Eevee again. He made her feel like she could do anything. Which was more than she could say for her past boyfriend (who only using her).
“Step right up and face the phoenix of the seas,” a voice shouted on Lilly’s right. She didn’t notice, but she was already on the docks. Her eyes looked up at the announcer. It certainly was a rare sight for Lilly. It was a Digimon. She hadn’t seen many of them where she lived, but she knew instantly that it was a Monmon. Lilly kind of laughed at the silliness of the poor Monkey species’ name.
“Hurry, Hurry, Hurry,” the Digimon continued pointing at the display behind him, “for a limited time only. Defeat me special deck in a Duel and you’ll win a prize.”
Lilly laughed a bit harder, before she saw one of the necklaces. It had a familiar violet glow to it. Lilly recognized it, even if the rest of the Duelists didn’t.
“Hold on,” Lilly stepped forward, “Where in the world did you get that pendant?”
“Seems we have a volunteer,” the Monmon announced.
“Wait I…,” Lilly tried to object, but the crowd around her was already clapping in amusement. She couldn’t just flat out say that one of the most dangerous merchandises in the Dueling World was there. It’d cause a panic or worse. Lilly looked up to see that the monkey already set up his Duel Disk, “Fine, I’m game!”
Lilly pulled out her own model from her duffle bag and set it up on her wrist. After her Deck was loaded and shuffled she was ready to begin.
“Let’s Duel!”
“Lady’s first, Miss…?”
“Lilly Wright and Thank you…?”
“Me crew calls me Nemo,” the Monmon snickered, “but you can just call me Master of the Ocean!”
“In your dreams,” Lilly drew her first card, “I’ll begin by Summoning Mystic Tomato.”
A giant red fruit bounced onto the field it’s face and eyes opened up to laugh at Nemo in an attempt to frighten him (1400 atk). “Then I’ll set a card and end my turn.”
“A Leafeon with a Plant Deck is no match for,” Nemo drew his card dramatically, “the wrath of my Water Cycle Deck!”
“Perfect! This is by far me favorite combination, I’ll start off by Summoning Hammer Shark to the field,” Nemo slapped his card down. A shark broke his way out of the ground below. True to it’s name it’s head was shaped just like a hammer. “Next, I’ll use his Ability! By lowering his level by one I’m allowed to Special Summon a Level 3 Fish from me hand and I choose Needle Sunfish!”
A flat fish flashed onto the field. It wasn’t as vicious looking as it’s shark comrade and just floated there for a few seconds before Nemo continued with his turn.
“I’ll now use me two Lvl 3 Monsters to open the Overlay Network,” Nemo announced, his fish turning into light that swirled into a shining vortex. Out of the vortex floated down what appeared to be a giant purple rutabaga with two lights orbiting it and an odd ‘17’ flashing on it’s side, “Exceed Summon! Number 17: Leviathan Dragon!”
The thing unwrapped itself and revealed itself to be a giant wyvern. The water dragon roared as a way to intimidate Lilly. The crowd of people only started murmuring to each other. They’ve never seen a card like this before in Duel World. Lilly had heard of XYZ Monsters, but never really seen one before. (2000 atk)
“I’ll now remove one Overlay Unit to raise Leviathan Dragon’s attack by 500 points,” Nemo felt the need to show which Unit he removed, “Additionally, when me Needle Sunfish is sent to the Graveyard, I can also lower Mystic Tomato’s by an additional 500 Points!”
Leviathan Dragon’s head snapped down to shatter one of it’s orbital lights. It glowed with a white light as it’s Attack strength rose to 2500. Then the ghost of Needle Sunfish returned. Mystic Tomato was confused to see it open it’s entire lower half. The fish fired an array of needles into Mystic Tomato (900).
“Now Attack!”
Nemo’s dragon breathed in and fired off a water stream that shot right through Mystic Tomato and knocked Lilly back a step. She cringed as her Lifepoints were lowered.
“When Mystic Tomato is destroyed I can select a Dark Monster with less than 1500 Attack. I choose Evil Thorn.”
A plant grew up and out in Mystic Tomato’s place. When it was done growing it looked as if it were a bean plant. Then it’s spikes grew in (100 atk).
“I’ll set a card and end my turn,” Nemo’s facedown appeared before him.
“For my turn,” Lilly stated as calmly as she could, “I’ll start by activating Evil Thorn’s ability. By Tributing itself, I can deal 300 points of damage to your life points.”
Evil Thorn’s pod filled up with air until it bursted. It’s spikes shot their way under Leviathan Dragon and right at Nemo. The monkey managed to dodge them despite still losing some lifepoints.
“What a cheap shot from a girl!”
“Hey every rose has it’s thorns,” Lilly laughed at herself, she’s used that line way too often, “speaking of which, Prepare yourself to see the Rose!”
“I get to special two more Evil Thorns,” Lilly announced as two more grew onto the field, “and although their abilities are negated I can still tribute them to advance Summon…”
Lilly slapped her card down as her twin plants shattered. Between them a new light shone, fading away into a giant rose like bud. The bud blossomed and the upper half of a woman revealed herself at the flower’s center.
“Tytannial, Princess of Camellias!”
“So scary,” Nemo pretended to be scared. Tytannial sneered at the pirate’s insolence.
“I Attack with Tytannial!”
The flower woman spun in place to release a storm of flower pedals at the Leviathan Dragon. The dragon roared as he disappeared from sight. As the crowd ‘ooh’ed at the attack, Nemo pressed to activate his Facedown.
“I activate my Trap, Xyz Xtreme !!”
“An Exceed Support Card? Why am I not surprised,” Lilly rolled her eyes, “Well, what does this one do?”
“I certainly hope you’re prepared for this girly,” Nemo announced, “First I pay 1000 Lifepoints…”
“Then we each select an Exceed Monster who’s Rank is equal to or lower than the one that was destroyed and reveal it to each other.”
“I don’t have any!”
“That’s too bad,” Nemo laughed as he already selected his card, “then you could have at least spared yourself some damage! As the one that reveals the Xyz Monster with the highest attack will deal the difference between our two monsters to the other.”
“But since I didn’t select a monster…,” Lilly realized. Nemo raised his selected card into the air. A violet mech-like giant appeared behind him. It roared as if it were in pain as it waved it’s arm at Lilly. Acid rain fell upon her.
“Then take the full force of me Number 30: Acid Golem of Destruction!”
“What a lousy trick!”
“Don’t blame me if you weren’t prepared for the storm. Now it’s me turn,” Nemo’s Monster returned to the Extra Deck before he drew his card, “don’t worry. Acid Golem’s not gone forever. I Summon Big Jaws!”
“When I Summon an aquatic Monster then Shark Stickers can come along for the ride,” Nemo motioned for the smaller shark to detach itself from Big Jaws, “Now I’ll open the Overlay network once more.”
The two monsters repeated the process of turning into lights and zipping their way into the portal. This time a violet orb rose like a planet with two moons. A ’30’ flashed on it’s side. The orb unrolled itself into the same acid spilling giant and landed before Nemo.
“Welcome back! Number 30: Acid Golem of Destruction!”
“Oh poopie…,” Lilly’s eyes grew wide as her ears fell back.
“Attack,” Nemo shouted as his beast repeated the same attack upon Tytanical. The maiden flower withered away to nothing in seconds.
“I’ll finish things up with another facedown,” the monkey smirked, “whatcha gonna do now girly?”
“Seriously,” Lilly huffed, putting a hand to her hip, “you think that’s an insult? You’ve doomed yourself.”
“Is that so girly?”
“Sure, I may not have as many powerhouse cards as other duelists,” Lilly drew her card, before she Set a Monster, “But even I know a low ranking monster like with high attack strength like that, must have a draw back. And I can stall long enough for you to defeat yourself. Your turn.”
“You really think so do you,” Nemo drew his next card, “Well, you were right. Acid Golem does have a price. During my Standby Phase, either I pay the cost of one Overlay unit or lose 2000 Lifepoints. Of course, I’ll pay the cost.”
Nemo didn’t wait to watch is golem destroy one of it’s orbitals, “Next I’ll Summon Abyss Warrior!”
A torrent of water burst forth from Acid Golem’s side. A big nosed whale-man appeared onto the field it seemed to be some kind of mystic by the way it was dressed and had a by the golden weapons it held.
“Now my combination’s complete,” Nemo didn’t give Lilly enough time to question what he meant by that (as if she wanted to know anyway), “I’ll now Activate his ability! By discarding a WATER monster from my hand, I can bring Shark Stickers back to the top of my Deck.”
“Now Attack her Facedown Abyss Warrior!”
Abyss Warrior twirled it’s golden weapons to fire off a light beam at Lilly’s Facedown Monster.
“I’ll Discard Hedge Guard,” Lilly threw her card into her Graveyard, “By cutting my Monster’s Attack in half, it wont be destroyed by this battle!”
The light blast was blocked by a thorn covered wall. Lilly’s Facedown revealed herself to be Botanical Girl. Another flower woman who mimicked a fly trap. Her attack lowered, but she was still in Defense Mode. (1300->750/1100)
“I’ve still got one more attack,” Nemo signaled for his giant to charge forward.
“When my Botanical Girl is sent to the Graveyard then I can bring another Plant with less than 1000 Defense to my hand,” Lilly looked through her deck, “I choose…”
Lilly’s eyes rested on a single card. She wasn’t sure why she put it in her deck to begin with. Then she remembered…
“So what do you think of my new Plant Deck Rocky?”
“It’s… fine I guess,” the rottie sighed, “but…”
“But what?”
“It’s so predictable. Any duelist would know your strategy right off the bat,” Rocky shook his head, “It needs something that really pops out of nowhere, you know?”
“Oh really? Then what do you suggest?”
The pup took a little bit to think about it. Lilly was about to put her deck away, when it looked like he finally had an idea. Rocky slid over to his own card chest and took out a card Lilly had never seen before. Rocky smiled as he handed it over.
“Papa-Corn,” Lilly snorted, “is this some kind of joke?”
“Yes. I mean no,” the pup seemed to be confused at first, “I just think…”
“Go on say it,” Lilly sighed, “you think it’s silly too.”
“What’s silly?”
“A Leafeon with a Plant Deck, it’s so cliché right,” Lilly laughed sadly to herself, “my brothers were right.”
“No way Lilly,” Rocky shouted at first, “Okay, maybe it is a little cliché, but it’s your passion. This deck has more of your heart in it than even mine does.”
“Then why give me this,” Lilly held up the card, “It’s not my style.”
“Well, er… I just thought that you might like…,” Rocky fidgeted with his fingers, “something to remind you… that…”
“Yes?”
“Remind you that I’m in your heart too.”
“Awe… that’s so sweet,” Lilly joked, “now you’re being cliché too.”
“Maybe… Maybe not,” Rocky smiled, “but I’m sure he’ll bring just the pop you need.”
The rest of that particular memory was a bit fuzzy. They each got in a few more laughs here and there. The whole event ended with Rocky laying on the floor getting belly rubs from the leafeon for the gift. Lilly smiled as she gently stroked the card. Her mind was made up, “I choose Papa-Corn!”
“You pick what,” Nemo laughed, “whatever, I’m going to end my turn here.”
“Good then it’s my turn. Draw,” Lilly swiped her next card, “Perfect! I play The World Tree!”
A three story tree appeared behind Lilly. It’s leaves almost had a face.
“What is that thing!?!”
“The World Tree is a very special card,” Lilly explained, “Now when a Plant-Type Monster is destroyed, they’ll become beautiful Flower Counters for The World Tree. I can then use these flowers to pull all kinds of tricks.”
“Like what?”
“For starters with two Flower Counters,” Lilly winked, “I’ll get to destroy one of your monsters.”
“I’ll now Summon Papa Corn!” Lilly’s monster appeared in a flash of light. It appeared as a sealed ear of corn. He popped open dressed as a general. One of his kernels popped off of him. It transformed into a child like creature. (1200 atk)
“You’re joking, right,” Nemo pointed to the kernel kid and colonel cob, “Those things ain’t be nearly strong enough to defeat me Acid Golem.”
“I’m not aiming for your Golem,” Lilly raised a card in the air, “I now activate the Field Spell, Black Garden!”
The crowd disappeared from the view of the two duelists. A single stone fountain grew at the center of the field. Dark vines grew around them and at the base of their Monsters. Papa Corn drew forth his sword and flashed golden shade of light (1200->2200 atk).
“What’s going on,” Nemo was shocked, “Black Garden lowers Attack power, not raise it. You must be cheating!”
“I assure you, I’ve done no such thing. Papa Corn receives a 1000 point boost while a Field Spell is in play,” Lilly motioned to her monster, “Now Attack!”
The father son duo dashed forward with his sword raised. the kernel kid slipped his way behind the Abyss Warrior. As the sword slashed down, Nemo’s warrior fell back and tripped over the kid. Nemo didn’t have time to react to his monster falling and shattering on top of him.
“And so I end,” Lilly bowed to her opponent.
“Think ya’re real smart don’t ya lass,” Nemo sneered, drawing his card.
“That depends,” Lilly crossed her arms, “Now are you going to take the 2000 points of damage or detach the last unit?”
“I’ll….” Nemo hesitated in activating his trap card, “I’ll take the damage.”
Nemo cringed as his Golem dripped acid upon him. He didn’t mind, the card he drew was just what he needed now.
“Now I’ll activate Amulet of the Water Deity,” Nemo announced as a large stone slab rose to the field as well. It’s face bore the image of Neptune himself, “Now for three turns your Tree’s power to destroy my monsters is worthless.”
“That’s fine,” Lilly scoffed, “The duel will be over before then.”
“Yar right ‘bout that lassie,” the monkey smiled, as he slapped his next card onto the field, “but be prepared to face yar doom. I Summon Shark Stickers!”
“That’s my doom,” Lilly pointed at the frail fish, “Even without my Black Garden that thing is weak.”
Nemo pointed to Lilly’s side of the Field as a light began to shine and sprout a giant red Rose, “Unfortunately for you so is yar pretty little rose.”
“Oh, I forgot,” Lilly slapped her forehead, “when one of us Summons a Monster, the other gets a Rose Token in Attack Mode.”
“That I can attack with me Acid Golem!”
The golem roared as he decided to charge with his attack this time. His fist smashed the rose flat. The aftershock blew acidic dust upon the leafeon girl. She screamed her skirt was blown up like Marilyn Monroe.
“A little tip Girly: Next time ya make a strategy, make sure it doesn’t back fire on you,” Nemo laughed full heartedly, “or better yet leave dueling to the real duelists.”
“Hey, I’m over two thousand leagues higher than you.”
“…… Wow… ya went there huh?”
“My Draw,” Lilly took a look at her card and grinned “I can’t believe you fell for it.”
“What are you talking about?”
“My Trap. I Banish Tytannial from my Graveyard and Queen Angel of the Roses from my Hand,” Lilly raised her card high, “to Special Summon Rosaria, the Stately Fallen Angel!”
A rose storm kicked itself up. A white angel flew out of the light on wings of black and red roses. He was wrapped like a royalty under all of his robes. Despite being another Plant-type, he looked more like a fallen angel than anything else. (2900 atk)
“What’s the point of Summoning that thing,” Nemo pointed out, “Your Black Garden will make it nothing to my Acid Golem.”
“Not if I activate the Forbidden Lance,” Lilly played her facedown, a lance shot up into the rose angels hands (2900 atk -> 2100 atk), “sure his attack still lowers, but not nearly as much.”
“And then Black Garden forces you to Special your own Rose Token,” Lilly pointed out Nemo’s side of the field, but nothing happened, “Where is it?”
“Acid Golem prevents me from Special Summoning any monsters.”
“Oh well, It’s okay as Rosaria’s weakness is only a temporary state,” Lilly motioned for The World’s Tree flower to fall away, “by using one Flower Counter I can Raise his attack by 400 points.”
“And now I’ll activate his own ability,” the Leafeon signaled for the angel to break free from his chains and shine a dark crimson. The other monsters on the field were struck by the same affliction. The Black garden turned darker still and the Spell cards went blank.
“Once per turn, Rosaria negates the effects of all the cards that are currently face up on the field,” Lilly looked over to her Papa Corn, “Unfortunately this means that Papa Corn’s attack also returns to normal, but it’s worth it in the end. I’ll now attack your Shark Stickers.”
Rosaria flapped higher into the sky and shot the javolen down at the fish. Shark Stickers and the weapon shattered in an instant.
“No way!”
“You’re finished now,” Lilly wore a smug grin on her face, “Now I may not have the strongest monsters, but Acid Golem was just not the way to go. Next turn it’s ability will finish you off.”
“You think so do you,” Nemo was finally fed up with this chick, “I activate my Trap Card! Aquamirror Cycle!”
“This card allows me to take two Water Monsters from their watery graves and bring them to me hand,” Nemo revealed them to be Big Jaws and Shark Stickers, “in addition I can return one Water Monster on the field back to the hand, But in Acid Golem’s case, it returns to me Extra Deck!”
“Oh no…,” Lilly pretended to be frightened, but Nemo didn’t catch on.
“That’s right Girlie,” Nemo raised the two cards in his hand to her, “and with these, I can just ReSummon Acid Golem back with both of his Overlay Units again!”
“Oh whatever shall I do,” Lilly fake-cried to herself, then she snapped her fingers, smirking, “oh yeah, I’ll just… end my turn.”
“Wait what?”
“Confused little mon,” Lilly stated as she looked up at her angelic rose, “Didn’t you know that Rosaria’s ability only lasts until the End Phase? That means both of my monsters’ attacks will return to over 2000 points.”
“No…”
“So go ahead and bring back Acid Golem,” Lilly shrugged, “it’s attack will only be 1500, but I’m sure you’ll be fine.”
“Alright! The gloves are off,” Nemo slashed out his new card, “I got it! I play Smashing Ground! With this, I destroy your highest defending monster!”
The card rose onto the field. A crater appeared from where the Spell was played and led straight under the rose angel. Roseria seemed to lose his ability to fly entirely. Lilly could only watch as her angel fell into the depths, “Rosaria!”
“Now I Summon me Double-Fin Shark!” A new shark broke it’s way onto the field. This one was thick like a submarine and had far too many fins to swim properly. (1000 atk) A new Rose Token planted itself next to Papa Corn.
“Now I activate it’s ability,” Nemo motioned for his shark to break free and flip into the air, “once per turn I can Special Summon a level 3 or 4 Monster.”
Hammer Shark returned to the field and a second Rose Token grew next to the first.
“Now I’ll Overlay me Double-Fin Shark and me Hammer Shark,” Nemo signaled for his Monsters to flash into beams of light. The two lights zipped their way down through the black hole portal. A new shark man rose from the ground, “Make way ya wrench for my Bahamut Shark!”
The shark man pushed away a tornado of water. His strength was clear, but he fell to one knee as he went into defense mode. (2100 def) A third Rose grew on Lilly’s side of the field.
“And just what is that thing supposed to do in Defense Mode?”
“Simple, by using one Overlay Unit me new beastie can bring a Rank 3 beastie to the field as well.”
Bahamut Shark punch one of his orbitals and it flashed violet. It floated down to the ground and flashed into a chimera headed shark. (1800 atk). The Black Garden’s vines shot up and forced the shark back onto the stone ground (900 atk). Of course, one more Rose token grew in Lilly’s last monster space.
“Welcome Shark Caesar to the Field!”
“It’s still no good,” Lilly didn’t bother looking at her opponent, “It doesn’t have nearly enough power.”
“Yeah, even me Behamut Shark couldn’t attack the turn it's power is used,” Nemo smirked, “But it did give me a beastie that I can use as Overlay Material!”
Shark Caesar lit up in a way that reminded Lilly of Evolution. The beast’s form returned itself into the depths of a new vortex. What replaced the chimera shark was a black knight like warrior who flew into the air with a toy like jet pack. (2100 atk). The Black Garden’s vines caught the warrior as soon as he landed. (1050 atk)
“To Chaos Exceed Summon,” Nemo announced, “Full Armored - Black Ray Lancer!”
“Me new beastie gains 200 points boost for each of it’s Overlay Units,” Nemo explained as his monster’s strength rose back up to 1250, “Not only that, but see what happens when he attacks. Go! Attack with Aero Joust!”
The knight launched himself back into the air and charge Lilly’s side. He released an array of torpedoes down upon one of the Rose Tokens.
“And since Full Armored-Black Ray Lancer destroyed one of your monsters,” Nemo spun on one foot, “I get to destroy one of your Spells or Traps, just like your precious Black Garden!”
FA- Black Ray Lancer twirled back into the air. It shone with the brilliance of the sun. His light turned the entire Black Garden into ash. The duelist’s view of the crowd returned. Lilly was surprised to see that crowd from before had actually grown even bigger.
“That means that me we beasties wont weaken anymore,”
“But you Monster’s powers are still cut to size, so I can still win this.”
“I think not girly,” Nemo grinned like a shark himself, “My Full-Armored Black Ray Lancer may only have 1250 points, but my Bahamut Shark’s defense is still 2100. The only way for you to win this duel now is to somehow get past both of them.”
“Your World Tree has two counters, but my Amulet of the Water Deity protects my monsters being destroyed by card effects,” Nemo’s Amulet shown brightly to prove his point, “so your only choice is to get to my lifepoints with a powerful monster. Something that has well over 2800 points…”
Lilly looked down to her deck as the Digimon spoke, “and considering you’ve already used three of what appears to have been your strongest monsters, I doubt you can pull it off.”
“I…,” Lilly paused. He was right. She did use all of her deck’s powerhouses.
“Now all I have to do is bring back Acid Golem and then you’ll be finished.”
Nemo then started to laugh. Not hysterically but enough to salt the wounds. Lilly was at the end of the road now. She had no hand, her monsters wouldn’t be strong enough to stall any longer. The only card in her hand (Fragrance Storm) wouldn’t be useful now. She would have to surrender…
Her hand reached for the deck. She was just about to place her hand down. The two creatures that made up Papa Corn noticed her actions. They cried out to her, but she couldn’t hear them.
“Don’t give up Lilly!”
Lilly paused. She looked up to where she heard the voice coming from. It was Marshal, “You’re not going to let this water user show you up are you?”
“But-”
“But nothing,” Marshal interrupted her, “Remember Rocky’s rule number one.”
‘He’s right,’ she thought to herself, ‘Rocky wouldn’t give up. And neither should I. What was that old saying. Believe in the heart of the cards? Well, my deck believes in me… and if it’s unwavering, then so should I.’
“I draw,” Lilly took a moment before she peaked at the card, “Oh my god… I can still win this.”
“Huh,” Nemo stopped laughing.
“I’ll start this turn by Summoning Copy Plant.”
“It’s attack is zero, but it’s ability more than makes up for it,” Lilly pointed out, as the plant grew, “by copying one of my Roses, Copy Plant transforms into a level 2 Tuner.”
“Now I can Tune my three level 2 Monsters,” Lilly signaled for her Rose Token trio to rise into the air and flash into stars and rings, “Oh what a love by any other name smells just as sweet… Let’s go Sychro!”
Lilly stood in the eye of her own petal storm, “bewilder us, Splendid Rose!”
“So you’ve got a new Monster,” Nemo laughed as Splendid Rose landed, “but it’s still not strong enough to defeat me. With Amulet is still in play, you can’t destroy my Monsters with your tree. And I still have more than enough Lifepoints to survive his strength.”
“He’s strong enough,” Lilly smiled, as two Flower tokens faded away and Splendid Rose lept into the air, “Thanks to my World Tree. By using it’s first effect twice, I can raise his attack by 800 points.”
“Let’s see 22… 26…,” Nemo counted, “Wait! That means he’d be strong enough to finish me off.”
“That’s right,” Lilly winked, “But I feel like having a bit of fun. So I’ll give the boost to Papa Corn.”
Papa Corn spun as he received his boost. He slashed out a second sword and his kernel son turned into twins. (1200- 2000 atk)
“What a stupid move! I wou-,” Nemo tried to laugh it off, but Lilly interrupted by removing her Botanical Girl.
“By removing a one of my fallen Plants, Rose can now cut one of your precious beasts in half!”
“Not again,” Nemo shouted. Splendid Rose flashed red as did Black Ray Lancer. The black knight shrunk to half his normal size (725 atk).
“Now, Splendid Rose Attack!”
Nemo shut his eyes for the end. He heard the whips snap through his Monster. Bahamut Shark shattered over the Monmon. When he finally took a peak, he saw something even more frightening than any one of his beasts. Lilly’s smile.
“Surprised? You should be,” Lilly laughed lightly into her hand, “You’ve been such a mean little monkey, so I decided to really go all out on you.”
“You just wasted your attack,” Nemo mumbled to himself, “just to mess with me?”
“I now activate Splendid Rose’s second ability,” Lilly slowly removed another Monster from the grave (consequently Evil Thorn), “After destroying a monster, I can remove another Plant and Splendid Rose will be allowed to attack once more with half of his current strength. Go Splendid Rose!”
Splendid Rose leaped up again and lashed out his whips upon the puny monster.
“I Activate Full Armor Black Ray Lancer’s Ability,” Nemo shouted, “by discarding all of his Overlay Units it’s not destroyed by this Battle.”
“So your Monster survived,” Lilly smiled again, “That’s good. Papa Corn, finish him off!”
Papa Corn roared as he dashed forward upon the mini-Monster. He diced the Monster and kicked the pieces into Nemo’s face. He fell back as his lifepoints reached zero.
“Now to claim my prize,” Lilly sighed as she walked over to the Monmon’s stand. She didn’t notice as Papa Corn and his sons smiled at each other before they faded away. They were more than happy to deliver the finishing blow for their new Duelist.
Lilly snatched the violet pendant from it’s display. She carefully looked at it to confirm it’s authenticity. Sure, enough it was real. She turned to Marshal and posed with a Victory sign.
