There's different kind of reverberations, room reverbs are the best as they rarely muddy up the sound but they add ton of depth.
Also the key is to do in on channel basis not whole mix, some sounds benefit while others not so much.

I've been thinking of similar things. Like, final dungeon themes. They're more orchestral in my head. And so I can't actually produce such things. hehehehe.
