You should add some reverberation to it, to give more of a cave feeling.

Man, every time I try something like that I can't find a good balance and it always ends up sounding really damped and far away.

There's different kind of reverberations, room reverbs are the best as they rarely muddy up the sound but they add ton of depth.
Also the key is to do in on channel basis not whole mix, some sounds benefit while others not so much.

I've been thinking of similar things. Like, final dungeon themes. They're more orchestral in my head. And so I can't actually produce such things. hehehehe.

<w< There are some really good orchestral synthesizers out there, man. You don't have to have a live orchestra to make it sound legit.
