Well, I've taken the first step in creating a plushie of my scout district's mascot. FA really needs to include a plushie/toy category under submission themes.
I'm still not happy with it, but I'll share anyway. I let KeVy's head sit there next to the PC for several months, staring at me while I tried to figure out what was wrong. Then it occurred to me--the eyes were too far apart. I originally put them nearly under the ears for some reason. So, I've moved them closer together and messed it up a little in the process. Oh well. Roughly 20 hours of work from scratch making a pattern as I go. No deadline and good thing as I haven't had time to work on him since oh...March. I foresee some challenges with the body. Tail will be easy in comparison. The other challenge will be finding an appropriate size ranger/scout leader hat for him. It's been an interesting project and a nice change from the stuff sacks I usually make for the scouts or mountain man regalia (haven't touched that in several years).
Cheek to cheek he's 10 inches (25.5cm) across. Ditto from nose tip to back of head. 7 inches (18cm) tall not counting ears.
As others have advised elsewhere and here: Start with scrap fabric (I use worn-out work pants) before delving into the faux fur. As for a pattern, good luck with that. Trust me, if I could have found something I liked enough to try and adapt, I wouldn't be doing this the hard way!
