Oh hey! I just realized I never posted this here, so it can be my hey-I'm-still-alive-sorry-I-haven't-posted-in-ages picture :D A while ago I did some quick doodles of my family as animals and they went down a storm (seriously, *everyone* loves seeing themselves as a cartoon animal, it's really cool!). We'd had the "what animal would I be??" discussion a bunch, so I had a good idea of what to draw them all as - my dad as a beaver (yes, har har, poor beavers need to be respected more for what they are rather than what they're slang for ><), my sister as a capybara, and my mom as... an otter! She's bigger, bolder and more sociable than me, but we have a certain mustelid-ness in common, haha.
Anyway, she's been begging me to do a proper family portrait - with paints, on canvas, of all our animal characters (and
cmajah too of course) - ever since and I haven't had the time; but for Christmas I did her this picture of the two of us sharing our embarrassing habit of getting tipsy and dancing badly. When she unwrapped it she was so overcome she started crying, and it's now proudly framed and hanging on her wall. Mustelid family love! <3

once upon a time, before every word in the dictionary, had to be given some sort of sexual connotation, beavers were about chopping down trees and building dams.
(not always good, not always bad, but the standardized human cleche' about them at the time)
to be innocent of anxiety must be good,
but in order for everyone to be able to enjoy that,
we need to build the kind of world, and yes are able to do that, in which everyone can.
not by imposing beliefs or ideologies, but by considering what incentives are created by the statistical concatenation of our individual priorities.
that is how the kind of world we experience is built, and why every belief, at least in its beginning, has tried to encourage everyone to do so.
(of course none of them are the magic formula they each later try to pretend to be)
when we build such a world, then we have something to really celebrate.
(when we build such a world, we won't have to get our spirits out of some kind of a bottle)
happiness, peace, freedom, all good.
i just don't worship booze, nor associate it with those things.
booze and cars and money, are things that give people the illusion of being free, while keeping them enslaved.
why settle for illusion, when we could be building a world in which we could enjoy the reality?
i'm not trying to be critical, nor push any one kind of agenda or belief, i've just seen too many times, too much of all the terrible harm humans have caused each other, fallowing from the idea, that not thinking about things, is somehow harmless. (and yes, every religion and every ideology, is just as guilty of that, as every mind altering substance)
they do look happy, they do look like they're having fun, and being happy and having fun, are, good things.
i just had to rant a little, because seeing alky associated with, and used as a symbol for that, is so often just not the way it is.
we fiddle, like nero, in the prevaledged parts of the world, with resorces we have stolen from everyone else, while everyone else, faces murder and starvation, from the lack of their resources, we have taken, to fiddle with.
were we to take only from ourselves, and only what we need, THEN the whole world, could be just as happy and care free as ourselves.

I don't picture you grinning while drawing this - I think of you smiling warmly, putting down your love for your family in every brush stroke. Being able to interact as an adult with your parents is always a wonderful thing.
Also, otters definitely are very sociable, so good choice. Beavers as an image is fine, too, people will think of hard-working, studious, planning traits. The sexual association is more with hearing or reading the word than seeing an image of it. (And I think it's slowly fading, too. Far more bizarre euphemisms have cropped up recently.)
This is a picture of YAYYYYY! (annnnnd now I'm mentally adding a flailing smiling Kermit in there.)

Yeup, apparently "otter" is now a sexual euphemism too, and "weasel" has always had nasty connotations of its own... it's just not worth worrying about that stuff any more X3 Anyway, thank you! I am very lucky to get along so amicably with my parents, I know that's not the case for everyone. Probably helps that my whole family are pretty nerdy and super easygoing; once people share nerdy interests they tend to have no problem at all getting along :3
A little more than I do, I think. She got my dad's quiet, thoughtful nature, and my mom's sensitivity and compassion. I got my dad's cynicism, and my mom's bouncy, feisty attitude. So it's no great surprise that my sister and I don't generally get along very well ;P Have you and Coon ever played the what-animal-would-I-be game with your families?
