I just now got Dropbox to sync, so I can finally share the photos on my phone! I don't have that many, since people were so amazing I was working so hard I often forgot to take pics of completed work. If you got something from me at FWA, I'd love to see a scan of it! I have pics for Nonsense, Eragon, Amaranon, Rama and Drossen, while I'll post later when I remember. Feel free to nudge me if I forget, guys. Everyone else (That's a LOT of you): Send 'em in!
As you can tell from the paragraph above, FWA was an absolute thrill! Either you all really love my birthday cake gift box promotion (not only is it for Precocious' upcoming book 3, but it was the birthday week for both me and my tablemate, Becca of Nattosoup) or you like my art, because I ended up arting the whole time! A big reason of why I do these cons is because it's the only time now that I take commissions, so I was super happy with the results! Everyone made me feel so special!
Major love goes out to the great folks of the corner. etuix couldn't have been more lovely as my table neighbor. She radiates joy and I would love to be next to her in future years! With LizardBeth one table down, I was clearly not worthy to be there - but I encourage the dealer gods to keep spoiling me forever!
FWA is still tough for me to get to - because travel and hotel eats up my earnings, and my commission rates are still too low to give proper breathing room - but I dearly want to keep this con on my yearly schedule. You were all too lovely and I can't stay away. So, uh, future FWA artists... if you're looking for someone to fill out your room... (Warning: All I do is sit and draw. You'll likely have to poke me and remind me to eat.)
The only downside was the hotel. As I joked, I wish I could get strategic blackouts in my memory. I want all the joy of the dealer's room, and the fun of Becca doing dramatic tumblr readings while I finished my artwork late at night - but I'd love to black out all my hotel dealings. (Thanks for double-charging me, Westin! Still waiting for you to fix that.)
Overall, I can't stop gushing. FWA exceeded all expectations - I couldn't have taken on more commissions if I wanted to, because I ran out of badge material. I even had to turn some folks away Saturday afternoon, which is always sad, but definitely a good kind of sad.
Onto the art!
I told Sy he would be by banner badge, so here he is. Sy is a Catahoula dog - which I thought was some Cartoon Network show until Becca (a Louisiana native) set me straight - and I had a lot of fun working with all those splotches. The Turbo car is my glitchy take on the Wreck-It Ralph baddy. (Again, I totally didn't remember who Turbo was until I did a search. I would totally brain blank on Digimon as well later. Not my finest mental hours.)
The Whry and Kaive badges fill me with such pride, because they have commissioned me for badges every year I've done shows. This was last year's couples badge. This time, since Whry had a stylish suit on, he got to play the authority figure, and Kaive was the misbehaver. I'm really pleased with how the fill-in-the-blank chalkboard gag worked out. (Kaive, you gotta get to me first next time. Then you can be the winner of the badge set!)
My next con is Awesome Con in DC, April 18-21, and then it's on to Anthrocon! (Table L18!) Everyone at those places better treat me right, because FWA spoiled me greatly.
