A cockatoo of inland Australia, Major Mitchell’s Cockatoo is also known as Leadbeater’s Cockatoo. It’s first name is in honour of Major Sir Thomas Mitchell, who wrote of it’s beauty, and it’s second name, which is a part of it’s scientific name, commemorates the British naturalist Benjamin Leadbeater.
