This is the character in which I took my name early on. He is one of many many characters in my proposed Ark Worlds series and the one I suppose I would most like to be in a fantasy life. Anthropomorphic siberian tiger starship pilot. :)
"Ark Worlds"
It was the missing link, and when the human world was discovered, it was hoped that the reason for the creation of the Confederated Worlds and their respective dominant species, would be at last answered. But still more questions arose instead. And although the humans were definitely the genetic template in which all known sentient beings were based, and their planet, the only naturally occurring world now in the confederation, was the one in which all others were patterned, it was determined that they were not the creators. They also lacked the technical knowledge and capabilities to perform the genetic engineering involved, let alone the ability to create entire planets along with detailed functioning ecosystems. In fact, human technology was quite primitive, having just barely reached the stage where they were able to explore beyond their own planetary boundary.
But in the end, Earth was reluctantly invited to join the confederation. This was partially due to the fact they now had in their possession, a starship, wrecked but still technically informative, and would no doubt be able to construct their own in short order, and no one wanted a loose cannon out there on the fringe. And besides, although the humans had little to offer in the way of raw materials or technology, they had reached a degree considerably higher than any other race in their development and sophistication of certain vices…
“Ark Worlds” series. Outlined though it may never have time to write it. I do have spinoff short stories in the works though.
All kitties love cream...
Mmmmm! Bailey's Irish Cream on the rocks and a good cigar. Can't get better than that!
I'll be picking at this for a couple days more and critique and suggestions are very welcome as always.

Thank you! <3 I am humbled by any comment by your Sheppyness! *bows*
Color pencils are very handy and forgiving. They're there at your fingertips with no water to deal with and no worries about anything drying up and it can, to a point, be erased unlike most colored media. :)

I use smudge sticks on occasion but get varied results depending on various factors. Tried some here but results were iffy. I am very heavy handed much of the time but back to blending. I use multiple colors in any given area and in the more solid areas, I will use one color on top of the rest to blend everything together. I hate graininess and I definitely hate to see the paper under it all!
In larger plain areas, I will fill in the entire area rather lightly with the darker basic color then do over it hardwith the next color (lighter or darker) and blend everything. then go back again with shading and highlights. 4 to 6 taters are common but some times many more when there is indecisiveness. Once in a whole I will remember to use an eraser :)
I'd love to get together with you at RMFC and talk to you about this stuff. and do some drawing. It's easy to understand when you see the techniques.

Very helpful! I'd love to chat it over. I tend to use a lot of colors, but I'm extremely light-handed with any traditional medium I use. That's likely the issue. Perhaps if I try using different layers to solidify the color (either a "lower layer" color or the top shade) it might help. I love how my recent piece with Riyoko came out, though it still has the gravely texture on the lighter gray shades. That grain generally doesn't bother me since it makes it look like the medium used, but I contemplated blending and smoothing out the color. You can obviously see which choice I took.
Coincidentally, my renewed CO tax license arrived today. I do so miss full fledged traditional work. It'd be nice to talk over the technique you use.

This has turned out wonderfully! And I must say the way you've swirled the cigar smoke and the nebula caught my eye as well. I agree with kantuck_nadie, the fact that it faintly resembles a tiger's face to it only adds to the piece I think. And your lighting, shading and reflections.....*drools too*...ahem.....mmmn...very lovely sir. ^.^
