I didn't bother to check until just now, but this was just a theory of mine because "ears" just always seemed... off.

All of this because a goddamn ice cream truck has been driving through my neighborhood for the past three weeks.

What are its origins and meaning, if you'd share? I have no idea, and I love finding out the odd, dark derivations of things. I was *so* amused when I learned that 'the ants go marching 1 X 1', which I loved in kindergarten, took its tune (and a slightly military feel?) from 'Johnny I hardly knew ye', an absolutely brutal British folk song about a soldier who returns from war...mostly.
This is an awesome comic. Heh. Balls.

I've heard these words sung to a melody that is the first section of an old, old, old dance tune called "Turkey in the Straw." The lyrics about ears/balls hanging low are not inextricably associated with the tune. Folk music is inconsistent .. Just like how the tune of "Twinkle twinkle little star" is also the ABC song for most American schoolchildren, etc.
