I read a story where a stewardess told a black lady to "...choose a seat. Eeny-meeny-meiny-mo", not knowing its origins. Got that lady rather offended.

What are its origins and meaning, if you'd share? I have no idea, and I love finding out the odd, dark derivations of things. I was *so* amused when I learned that 'the ants go marching 1 X 1', which I loved in kindergarten, took its tune (and a slightly military feel?) from 'Johnny I hardly knew ye', an absolutely brutal British folk song about a soldier who returns from war...mostly.

I've heard these words sung to a melody that is the first section of an old, old, old dance tune called "Turkey in the Straw." The lyrics about ears/balls hanging low are not inextricably associated with the tune. Folk music is inconsistent .. Just like how the tune of "Twinkle twinkle little star" is also the ABC song for most American schoolchildren, etc.

Our ice cream truck plays "Little Brown Jug" and "La Cucaracha" continuously. La Cucaracha has a marijuana reference in the lyrics!

In between Pop Goes the Weasel and songs about droopy 'nads, they have this weird looping song that I've never heard anywhere else and inbetween each loop, confused woman says, "hell-LO?!"

Funny, the version I heard was about tits... But yeah, that's just the way things go. ^_^

Holy shit, it really was originally "Do Your Balls Hang Low." I knew a guy like 15 years ago who actually sang it like that, and everyone laughed their asses off so much when he did, I now automatically associate the "ears" version with the "balls" version.
