poor elim, his heart just broke, yet all kass think of is food. no real sympathy, it makes you wonder how they became friends, especially when you piece together the limited history these two have.

that last bit was kind of garbled. from what little we know of these two; gained from later pages, they came from different they did not grow up together and led very different lives. I guess 'The war' just lumped everyone together.

I got what you were saying, and it's a good question! People have a long and well-recorded history of getting lumped in together with strangers in a war, then becoming the closest of friends when they're huddled down in a bunker for a week. They're definitely not the type to have become friends in other situations... but their history will get more of a spotlight later on, so just remember this line of thought!
