From birth
I've known little but pain
Each footfall I've put on this earth
Takes me farther from ghosts that I've slain
O'er mountains and rivers, my trail
This path I have beaten alone,
Circles round to the past, without fail
Ever darker and more overgrown
The mountains can't come between memories
The rivers can't wash away hurt
And fighting this thicket inside me
Left me broken, face down in the dirt
But one day our paths crossed ways
And in you I could see the same ache
The same will to forge on in your gaze
But the same beaten path in your wake
Now I can't say the past don't still pain me
But in some ways I'm starting to mend
It ain't that loving you's changed me
I'm just finally rounding the bend
We'll claw at the world together
We'll reap a clear path when we're pressed
I know our journey can't last forever
But now you'll be there when I rest
guitars, bass, lead and back vocs and drums by me
I tried to give it this southern/country feel.. but it's kinda hard with my israeli accent :P

Okay I have to drop you some serious praise now.
This is a really interesting take on this song. I really enjoyed it a lot! You got down the haunting feel to it, which I think is one of the key elements of the song. And I have to say even with your accent, this came out really wonderfully! (Which is something coming from a person raised on Country music.) The pacing of the song was really well, and I love the instrumental part just as well as the vocals. It's all really well done! Congrats!

So, I've had a listen to both versions, and I find it fascinating from a musical perspective (not actually being a musician myself) how the same lyrics (or mostly same) can be performed so differently and have a different tone and impact. It's hard for me to put to words the differences, as it's more something I can feel. The composition by Foxamoore is more like a quiet contemplation with it's softer tones and what I believe is a slower pacing, whereas your version here is more a coming to a realization, of things felt but finally expressed and admitted to oneself. It's an interesting differentiation; how the same words, expressed differently, can tell a different lyrical story in a way.
