Monkey in the Middle
Still no job after all these months;
It’s really driving me nuts.
Yet there’s more to my stress
Than meets the eye.
It’s hard to find a job
That will suit my accommodations and beliefs;
I will never work Sunday mornings
Because that’s when church happens.
I have my mom giving me advice
And my grandma giving me other advice.
Mom is whom I listen to,
And Grandma doesn’t like it.
The Bible states we must honor our parents
In the Lord, for this is right.
That’s what I’ve been trying to do
In all this job struggle.
Grandma comes off bossy
But she’d never admit it
Because she may be losing her memory
As well as all her patience.
She cannot wait for me to get hired
And says there’s no excuse.
She thinks I’m not trying to get a job
Even though I’m filling out online applications.
She seems she has nothing better to do
Than telling all of us what to do.
There’s no privacy with her around
Even if she has good intentions.
We must love her for who she is
Because that’s the right thing to do.
She just tends to live in the past
And is out of touch with reality.
I thank Mom for trying to raise me
So that my childhood was what hers wasn’t.
It’s tough having parents that don’t care about you
Even if you are their firstborn.
So pray for me as I continue
To look for a job in this bad market,
While dealing with two women that to me
Are trying to run the same house.
Mom lives in this house
So she should run it the way she wants to.
Grandma think no one is capable
Of taking care of themselves, so she tries to run it.
I’m just really irritated
And tired of being the monkey in the middle.
I worry I may lose my sanity over it
And run myself into depression.

When you work for the federal government, they do provide accommodations the best as they can. You can apply anywhere you want and if you qualify, they'll try to set up some kind of interview if not a test in your location as close as possible. Under Obama, he's making it easier for disabled people to be accepted into the government workforce more easily and autism is one of them. Go there and see if you can find any luck. Plus, their jobs are stable for the most part and they provide a lot of benefits too.

Hate to break it to you buddy, but if you're going for a job with your qualifications you're going to have to work a few Sunday mornings. The fact is that this part of the world isn't old fashioned anymore, and if you won't work on a Sunday, there are millions of people who readily will, even if they too are devout. Additionally, I don't know what your parents are telling you but you should never arbitrarily assume their advice is what's best for you. You need to decide what's best for yourself. "Parents know best" is a common myth. They know what they know, and whether or not it's best is completely coincidental.
I figured you'd say something on this. Of course I am choosing to work on Sundays, and I am having to bear in mind I may have to work on a few Sunday mornings. I'm not as devout as I should be, but it's obvious to all know me (both in real life and on this website) that I clearly would function way better if this year was 1914 or even 1814, and not 2014. But it is what it is. I just worry I may die a miserable man because 65 is the traditional retirement age, which is growing and growing until for some people, death is their retirement, just as it possibly is in show biz. I worry I may not even work until I'm 65.
