As my latest 'sweeps month' (May, 2014) continues, I offer another rare illustration from my "GSP" (Gray Sketch Pad)...
Said sketch pad was given to me last year by "Fur Affinity" regular
Funimal, who I first became familiarized with via the 'funny animal' APAzine "Rowrbrazzle"; and, since moving down to Florida (over 20 years ago), he and I would see each other - whether I'd come down to his area in Miami, or he'd come up to my area in Margate.
Last year, Funimal took my "GSP" with him to "AnthroCon 2013" (in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) - instead of schlepping my "BBS" (Big Black Sketchbook), which is too heavy to lug around a 'furry convention' (or any convention, for that matter). He'd managed to get two anthropomorphic sketches drawn in it: one from
Tyrnn and one from
Karno (both images of which can be viewed in my 'Scraps' section).
This past April, he took my "GSP" with him to "WonderCon 2014" (in Anaheim, California), but was unable to get any artist ('funny animal' or otherwise) to render any form of illustration in it. So, not to disappoint me, he decided to render a sketch himself...
Besides the usual celebrity guests in attendance at "WonderCon 2014", many major blockbuster motion pictures were being hyped, including the latest sequels to "X-Men" and "How To Train Your Dragon". One film that caught Funimal's interest was the much ballyhooed "Superman/Batman" movie - with Ben Affleck in the latter role, which is still stirring up controversy. (How soon we forget: remember when another unlikely actor named Michael Keaton portrayed the 'caped crusader'?!)
Inspired by this yet-to-be-filmed blockbuster, Funimal rendered a superhero who's a real bat, and (appealing to my love of 'fat furry' art) who is fat!
As an added touch, his mouse 'fursona' makes a cameo appearance on the extreme right side of said sketch.
Of course, he drew this sketch entirely in pencil, so I had to use my Paint.Net program to darken the lines (even the very faint ones). Areas that ended up too dark were 'touched up' by yours truly.
