Here's the first complete song by my furry band, "The Paw Offs".
I wrote it way back in 2002, recorded it on my own and presented it to who had become my best furends, Belic Bear and his mate, K'gra. It popped in my head the day after we met, on a cold day in Boston. Our meeting was so powerful, the words just flowed out with the melody. I think it was the fastest song I ever wrote. It's about how I came to find his web group, The Furry Forest. A non flaming PG rated list of the most wonderful furs.
In the next few years, we grew even closer, met a lot of furs and made a lot of furends. One of who was a fellow musician. After jamming a few times and performing cover sets at some of Bear's get togethers, we decided to start recording as a band. Not sure if the band will ever perform live, but we did record a few songs. Unfortunalely this is the only complete one. :P
Now it's time to meet "The Paw Offs".
On guitars and vocals, BELIC BEAR
On bass guitar and vocals, SEDGE HARE
On drums, vocals & keyboards, yours truely. >"^_^"<
I sing lead on the verses and back-up vocals. Belic sings lead on the chorus.
This is a first draft mix, not the final, so it's a bit shakey.
Hope you all like it. >"^_^"<
Lyrics:
Wandering the night, sad and alone
Wide away, had no direction
Dragging my paws through the cover of darkness
i found myself deep in the woods
Followed a path that lead to a clearing
Near a lake, lit by the moon
Fell asleep to the song of crickets
But, I'd be awakened soon........
I heard them around me
The creatures, they found me
And my eyes had opened to their eyes upon me
Then I felt a large paw touch me on my shoulder
And a warm voice assured me not to be afraid............ He said
Welcome to the Furry Forest
Where you have strayed
We're all family in the Furry Forest
And we hope you'll stay
He took me into his embrace
With a big bear hug he made me feel welcomed
He introduced me to his mate
Princess K'gra, the warrior leopard
Suddenly a weight had be lifted
Overwhelmed my eyes in tears
I hugged back, my feelings were strong
Because it had been far too long
And then it, it hit me
This is where I was ment to be
And they all, all gathered
Around to hear my story
All the things that went wrong, I suffered for so long
So lost and happy to be found.....
He's Belic the Bear Knight of the Furry Forest!
With K'gra by his side
Guardian of the Furry Forest
And all who reside
Welcome to the Furry Forest
There's no more need to roam
There's a place for you in the Furry Forest
And I Am Home!

I must say, your quite the adept drummer. How long have you been playing? For me, listening to the rhythm section was the most entertaining part for me.
For the keyboard sections, the patch you were using kinda put me off it, it sounds like there might be too much vibrato on it.
Other than that, I enjoyed listening to it. (very nice triplet fill at the end.)
Nice Job.

Thank you! I've beeen playing drums for nearly 30 years. Always learning, always adapting and adopting new styles. I don't think of myself as a singer. Hate my voice. :P The keyboard patch is distorted guitar with heavey modulation off of my Yamaha SY22. I was trying to eq it to sound like an old Moog. Going for that early DEVO style. Both me and Belic are avid DEVO fans. It's pretty loud in this mix. i cut it back in the final.
I appreciate the critique and i'm glad you enjoyed the song. >"^_^"<

Certainly shows in your playing that you've got nearly thirty years under your belt =)
If you really want to get the orignal Moog sound, without splashing out on actually buying a Moog, I'd suggest the Fantom X, by Roland (Or the rack version). Take a listen to "Boss Theme A" on my page, I use an edited patch version of it, the solo really shows off why I like Robert Moog so much =)

I have no clue about that tag. I burned it to a cd, uploaded it to my iTunes library and Radiohead's Creep was what came up in the title heading. I tried to erase it, but it's still there. :P I'm wondering if some blanks have pre-determined IDs?
Anyways, glad you like the tune. >"^_^"<

Its about time you uploaded this, had listened to it at FMF. Great job on the drums, I can't expect any different from you Runtt ;7 Oh, get ready btw, gonna upload a song that my guitarist came up with, and he's singing, lol, his debut. He has potential, if anything I'm gonna train him to do some backing vocals with me, I love harmonizing and whatnot.
I was often dreaming to have a more high voice like yours in a way :) this work as a good 'render' quality ! Hm I'm working on some sort of 'furry themed techno-rock songs' for information :) So if you have text to send or if you want me to send you a text (in french if you like heh :D ) nah just joking :) keep up the good work !
I love the song, it's really good.
Yes, as I read some of the comments it does sound a little bit like other songs, but of course! I mean hundrets of groups lots of songs... you can't really like "invent" new tunes. They all will sound like something people have heard before.
It doesn't really matter if it is something absolutely "original" or "new" or "we have never heard this before" What it REALLY matters is that you do in every song what YOU are!
In other words keep it up!!!

The song that influenced this tune was actually by Duncan Sheik, off his second CD. I forget the title, since I only have a burnt copy. But the melody has been done over and over again. I can name 6 songs from different time periods that use it. So yeah, it's familiar. >"^_^"<
Good quality recording. The only criticism i'd make is that the vocals sound way too much like that guy from Pansy Division and the lyrics are about as cringe worthy as it gets but that's furry for you rather than your fault ;P. Vocally the harmonies are very good, stayed in tune throughout.
We used 2 different amps for the tones. The main distorted guitar is a Gibson SG through a Marshal Valvstate single 12" combo. The secondary distorted guitar and the crunchy guitar is a Gibson Eliminator through my 80's Fender Twin w/ a Rat Pedel. The chorus effected clean guitar is also the Eliminator through my Twin w/ a chorus pedel. Bear loves The Police, so and 'Andy Summers' sound had to bee present. >"^_^"<
Likewise, hon. Your bass playing is purrfect for my writing style. And, YOU wright some freakin' AWESOME stuff, yourself. >"^_^"<
I really want to try and find another recording unit. This way, we won't have to bother my parents. They've come down. I saw a brand new one sell for $800. on Ebay. I may take my chances after FC. >"^_^"<

Did someone say the Paw-Offs were playing a rock show?! Fuck yeah! Let's plug in, turn up, and make some fur fly! *toothy grin*
Thanks for posting it, Runtty! We really need to finish the album before Guns and Roses come out with "Chinese Democracy". *LOL*
Bear
PS. Damn! Your lyrics still make me blush!

I felt that way when I met you, I still feel that way now. There is NO denying inspiration and you and the princess gave me plenty that faithful afternoon. Crap, my spirit guide appeared to me after meeting you two. Do you really think I'd not write a song with all those wonderful feelings coursing through my fuzzy body? I think not! >"^_^"<
I love you, bro. This song, and 'Cuddle' are from my heart. That feeling will never go away.

Sedge is not actually singing on that track. It's me and Belic. But, I'm sure he appreciates the honorable mention. >"^_^"<
In all honesty, Sedge has a great voice and I hope to finish the tunes he's written for the CD. One of which the basic tracks have already been recorded. >"^_^"<

Everything was recorded on a Yamaha AW4416 digital 16trk recorder. I used various mics. The high 10" tom was a Sennhieser e606. I also alternate between one of those and a Shure SM-57 for the snare/hi-hat. I've also used a Shure SM-81 for the hi-hat, as well. 12", 14" & 16" toms, I used a pair of Audio Technica ATM-25s. You can get them pretty cheap now. Kick drum is an AKG D-112. My overhead was a Shure KSM-32 or the SM-81.

Thank you. Sedge did a variation of the original bass line I wrote. There's another version I did on my own. You can find it on the FMF (Furry Music Foundation) site. As for the pace variaton, Probably by accident. I recorded the drums on my own. Basically sung the song to myself and recorded the drum tracks. Unless you mean the drop when the vocals go accapella? THAT was intentional. >"^_^"<
I first found the first version of this song and thought it was awsome! However this version rocks even more. I think that it kinda represents that time in most furs' lives when we realize and accept the fandom as a crowd we are part of, or thats it for me...thanks Runtt. You rock!!
Wow! Thank you! >"^_^"<
The song was written for my furend, Belic, who also plays guitar, and sings the chorus on the new track. He has a web group called 'The Furry Forest'. This was inspired by that group, because it was free of drama, welcoming and loaded with nice furs, who I have since become good furends with, way back, in 2002. I'm very glad you found something fursonal, in the song, for yourself. I guess every fur, who has emailed me, about the song, has felt the same way. It's become a kinda underground, furry anthem.
Thank you, soooooo very much hon. There are a few other songs in my gallery, if you're interested. >"^_^"<

I've already listen this song on Furry Music fondation, but it was a little bit different, even if the lyrics are almost the sames. But I like it too, this is one of my favorite song, beacause of the lyrics and of the music!
I know now WHO is K'Gra, this is a warrior leopard! lol, and where did Tolstoy the Artist pass?
Thank for this fabulous song, this is one of the best I ever heard!

Tolstoy is an artist, here on Fur Affinity. He and Belic (also here, on FA) were furends, but they had a falling out. The lyric change came about when Belic, Sedge Hare and I re-recorded it, for a future CD, we have in the works. I like this newer version better. Belic plays great guitar and sings. Sedge plays a mean bass guitar. >"^_^"<
So Tolstoy isn't your furend anymore? That's too bad; I'm sorry to recall you this -probably bads- recalls.
I don't know really the one I prefer, I would say probably the first, the lyrics seem better. And that's wrong : you sing very well! (no matter what you can say )
Thanks to answer me

Wow... The memories! I used to be part of the Furry Forest, not sure whether as a wolf or some other creature (I think I was a cheetah at one point lol... I was a teen at that point I think >_>), but pretty sure the same name. XD I'd talked with Belic and K'gra for so long, and they even sent me a FurFright t-shirt one year when I was so upset I couldn't go... Never ended up going before it died. :/
Fell upon this song again after checking out some Fox and Pepper info (they played last month at the first ever con I've attended... Yeah, it took that long XD), and saw that you played on their #Hashtag album. I recognized the name! That's how I found this.
Anyway, getting off the memories train now. Nice to see you're still super active in the fandom!

Oh cool! Hope it brought back good memories. ^^
I was a director at Furfright for many years then got a gig with Matthew Ebel and had been backing him, playing drums and singing back up. Recorded a few albums with him. Played many concerts. All are up on You Tube.
Yes, I played on #Hashtag and Pepper's album "MUH". I'll be playing with Foxes And Peppers at AC this year along with my fursuit band 'We Are One'. It will be our first concert. 11 fursuiters who play and sing in fursuit. We will be doing a set of original music from my upcoming album and some cover songs. I'm sure AC will be videoing both concerts. There are two Foxes And Pepper concerts up on You Tube with me playing drums in fursuit and Pepper's Furpoc concert from last year with me and two members of We Are One backing him in fursuit.
It's been a busy decade. LOL
