In the far future, after the collapse of Earth based civilizations, the furs that survived above it all in space colonies eek out a living. Some are traders. Others, like the owners of space craft like this, are con-furs. (aka, conmen for ye humanists) Hoping to lie, cheat, and steal their way to a quick buck, they fly around in the Necessity here trying to make themselves appear more dangerous than they actually are. Sure they got turrents and missile like things all over, but only a few of them have any ammo or work. But to the unsuspecting space trader, this baby looks like revenge of the pirate menace +5.
The Necessity is a defunct, hand me down warship left over from the last major war. Its design is based on mass production of effective warships. Ships like this one were build out of twleve sub sections that were mass produced (fore, aft, two for the central shaft section, 4 for each ring) and assembled later. This was done instead of the usual method of building the super structure and then filling it out and tossing a covering over it. The method was indeed faster, which was great for the war effort, but the sectioning was occasionally exploitable by the opposition as not all the ships were as securely fitted together properly as they were intended.
This one survived the war and was decommissioned, sort of. Sent to the scrap yards above Io, it was shortly after lifted by the infamous Captain Tinyenko. The captain was soon after killed in a shuttle accident and the current captain, Sam Alten, a raccoon of dubious morals, took over. Its current mission is oddly enough for the Union which build the ship. But what is this mission really?
