Finished piece for the winner of my first YCH, an epic scene for
Bobby_Balon featuring the dragon, Balon!
Pheeeew, big background is big. I had some fun with it though! For whatever reason, that second range of mountains gave me the most difficult of times.
Tried some different techniques on the shading and colouring for this one. ^^ Note how the overall piece is more muted to suit the lighting. :D
And before anyone tries to tell me 'that's not how you draw feathers,' those ARE NOT feathers! They're metal plates. Of which also proved a challenge for layering them all, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

A very nice piece. I must say that the first thing I thought of when I saw it was how the dragon Saphira from Eragon looked. I have very mixed feelings about that movie, though; as a movie it was pretty good with an outstanding job well done concerning Saphira, but it was an absolutely atrocious film adaptation of the book. Granted, most film adaptations of books are, but this one was especially so and anyone's that read the books and seen the movie knows what I'm talking about.
