I remember a risque gag that appeared in one of the very last Warner Bros. theatrical cartoons - "Injun Trouble" (1969), directed by Robert McKimson - in which 'Cool Cat' (the tiger) enters an old western saloon that had a sign outside that reads 'Topless Bar'. When he approached the bar, he confronts the bartender... the topless bartender... the topless male bartender (who has more hair on his chest than in his mustache)!
The word 'topless' alone has a variety of definitions, and I had decided to dabble with one of them, when I began to render a doodle with my characters 'Rob Cat' the bobcat and 'Donovan Lupus' the wolf (back in the mid-1990s). Of course, being a Florida resident for the last twenty years, the concept of a 'topless beach' wasn't new to me. But I still felt that said concept could've easily led to gags like mine...
Part of this doodle gag was an experimental homage to legendary animation director Tex Avery - by having 'Donovan' do a classic exaggerated 'take', reacting to his seeing a 'topless' cougar gal (half-shock/half-ecstasy).
