Utsukushi always cared for me. She always loved me no matter what. Now I know why she came here in the first place. She came to be my new Big Sister, my protector, my best friend.

“Why haven’t they come back?” This question reverberates through my mind as I pace the floor of the Main Hall a moment before finding myself gazing through the window at the living neighborhood waking up in front of me. Tears swim within my eyes while I begin circling the confines of the couch, “Where are they? What happened to them? Was it something that I did to drive them away?” Sadness overflows and pelts my pajama top while my mind races.
“Caiden-kun?” Utsukushi yawns as she scans me, “Caiden-kun, what’s the matter?” Yawning again, her silent footsteps propel her across the distance, landing in front of me in seconds. Her arms extend as she kneels to my height, “Caiden-kun?”
Whimpers assault her ears and my saddened visage meets her, “Utsu-neechan…Utsu-neechan I…I miss….” Mental paths begin to fail, yet my feet rush me toward her, wrapping my arms tight around her neck with my head resting on her shoulder. Infantile emotions recant normalcy and surge outward, my frustrations and confusion made known to her straightaway. “Utsu-neechan,” Sniffling and attempting to gather my emotions, I pull away from the hug and land on the floor, staring upward, hurt and confusion staining my countenance, “Utsu-neechan, um…why, why haven’t Ycatsaius and Nikoletta not come back? It’s…it’s been a year now and…and they haven’t returned. What…what happened to them? What’s going on? Did…did I cause them to leave? Did I…did I make them angry or do something bad that made them not want anything to do with me?”
Utsukushi shakes her head and her concerned visage analyzes me, “Caiden-kun, you didn’t do anything to upset them. They didn’t leave because of anything that you did. Caiden-kun, they haven’t returned because……” Her face falls to the floor, attempting to discern her next move. She knows that one wrong move, one wrong tongue would send me down a pathway to an emotional cyclone. “They, they…..” Her eyes find me and her hand runs through my hair, “Caiden-kun, they’ve joined with the High Councilors.”
“What? What does that mean? What do you mean they joined with the High Councilors?” I didn’t want to believe what she just said, it didn’t make sense, but then again, nothing ever really does make any sense to me when my life is considered. Aiming my tear streaked face at her, “Well, don’t just stare at me, tell me what’s going on!”
“Alright, Caiden-kun, but…you might not like it.” Sighing deeply, she lowers herself to the floor, sitting Indian style. “Okay, here I go.” Her eyes image my still visage and a hand speeds through her emerald green strands, “Caiden-kun, Ycatsaius and Nikoletta merged with the High Councilors, they infused themselves via Zentalis energy with the High Councilors and now exist within the High Councilors’ A.I. systems. I want you to know that they did this to aid the colony and ensure the safety of everyone, including you and I. Caiden-kun I know you didn’t want to hear this, but…”
Her words become static within my mind as I stare through her, emptiness creeping into my conscious sight. “I don’t believe this. I…I don’t believe that they’re gone just like that. They…they’re just gone, merged with the consciousness of a group of artificial intelligences for ‘the better of the colonies’ as Utsukushi just put it. I…I lost my Mommy and Daddy first…and……and now I…I’ve lost my Big Brother and Big Sister too, I’ve lost my entire family. All of them, just gone within mere seconds of each other.”
“Caiden-kun…Caiden-kun?” Utsukushi’s voice pelts my ears, yet falls dead on the floor, my face not meeting hers. She knows straightaway that the news is devastating to me, that my psyche has been shattered again. Not shredded by a nightmare this time, but by the reality of this…Aquaius Centauri: The Sky Colonies, this new collective of ships hanging in nothing with a dead planet and ball of flame they orbit slower than the normal time limit given to said dead planet, Delta Centauri or Earth as humans used to call her. “Cai-chan…I know that…I know that you’re upset, but” Her warm gaze falls upon me, her hands wiping the silent tears before pulling me into a hug, “I want you to know that I’m here for you and I’ll never leave you. I’ll never leave no matter what.” Concerned eyes greet me once I’m free of her embrace. “Cai……Caiden-kun please say something?”
“They…they basically killed themselves for the betterment of the colonies? They…they joined a group of machines and lost their individuality, their Zentalis heritage because they wanted to do what? Why? Why would they do this to me? Is…is this why you came?” Sniffles and hiccups snake along my body, anger mixed with confusion and fear break free, pouring out from the depths of my broken spirit. “They…they must have really not wanted to see me after what they put me through. So…so that’s why you came…” Whimpering, I crawl over to the couch and lie down, facing the pillows. “It’s just not fair. Why does everyone leave me? Why am I always left alone? What did I do to deserve……to deserve…” Soft cries eke outward, my body curling into a ball with my sadness and depression gripping me, molding me into a shell.
Although my upset demeanor radiates throughout the Main Hall, Utsukushi sits down adjacent me, “Caiden-kun, have I ever left you? Have I ever said that I didn’t want you here with me?” Smiling, she pulls me into her lap and rubs my back once I’m over her shoulders, my arms wrapped firm around her neck; legs hanging limp off the couch’s edge, “Caiden-kun, you must understand that I’ll never die, I’ll never leave you, and I’ll never put anything or anyone else before you. I told you before and I shall remind you as much as I have to,” Rising to her feet, her back rubbing continues while my feet latch onto her waist, depression taking liquid form and pelting her back, “Utsukushi Wanda, your alternate self shall never leave her little brother, her alternate, her young charge, Caiden Alexandria.” Setting me on my feet, comforting energies swarm around her when she descends to my eyes, “Caiden-kun, I will not leave you ever. Though others may come and go, I will be here forever. Remember baby brother, all their memories, all of who they are lies wholly within myself, my personality, and my mind. Their memories are within you, thus are they within me. You ascertained why I came here, why I manifested as one body, separate from yours. You guessed correctly, Caiden. I’m here for you and you alone. I’m here to comfort you and care for you when all others have failed you.”
Warmth entraps me and soft hums soothe my ears. Feeling her touch ink across my back, contented purring rises from my hollowed soul, “Caiden-kun, The Most High knew that you would need someone who’d always be there. He knew that they would leave sooner or later, and then you’d need someone who’d stay by your side. It was known that you’d need someone to keep you comforted, keep you safe, and continue to make you happy. That someone,” Releasing me from her loving embrace, her warm hands rest on my shoulders, “is me, Utsukushi Wanda. I will always be here for you, Caiden.”
Scanning me close, she can sense my broken spirit. Crying and need for comfort is all that wishes to escape my ravaged mind. “I’m glad I have Utsu-neechan, she’s truly the best Big Sister I could have been blessed with. I…I…I’m happy that she’s here.”
“Caiden-kun,” She wraps me in her warmth and allows my head residence on her chest, caressing my back and hair with her gentle touch, “Caiden-kun, you can cry if you need. I’m right here, I’m right here for you, and I’ll always be.”
Sadness swells within my heart and burns through my body, “I hate the fact that my family left, but at least I’ve got someone who cares about me. The Most High has always blessed me and…and I’m grateful for that. I’m grateful for that. I…I just want…I just want……WAAAAAAAH! UTSU-NEECHAN! UTSU-NEECHAN! WAAAAAAAAAAH!”
Crying out my frustrations, gentle back rubbing and soothing humming surrounds me and despite my tears of sadness, my spirit manages to sing praises to The Most High for the blessings He’s bestowed upon me. Through all the pain and heartache, He’s always provided me a way to be helped and healed, always. For this I am grateful, even though wails and despondency ricochet across the Main Hall.
Sitting down on the couch, she holds me close, my whimpering and hiccupping receding after ten minutes, “Well, Caiden-kun,” Utsukushi pulls me out to her eyesight and wipes my eyes, “do you feel better now?”
“Yes, Utsu-neechan,” Sniffling and shifting in her lap, I snuggle into her chest, relishing the warmth and comfort provided me, “I feel a lot better now. Thanks for being here. I’m thankful that The Most High gave you to me, I’m thankful that you and I are together, and I’m thankful that nothing will ever separate us.”
Utsukushi nods, her hands running through my hair and inking circles on my back, “I’m thankful as well, Caiden-kun. The Most High has given me purpose and I shall fulfill that purpose. He gave us eternal youth and gave us the best lifestyle that would suit us. We are thankful to Him and we know that He always watches over us.”
Rising from her warm hold, a smiling permeates my countenance, “Thank you for everything, Utsu-neechan, thank you so much.”
“You’re welcome, Caiden-kun. Now, how about we watch some TV, huh? Does that sound appealing to you?”
“Uh huh! Yep! Yep! Yep!” My joyous demeanor resurrected, I hop out of her lap and head toward the kitchen. “Utsu-neechan,” Carrying a 2L of orange soda, and two glasses, I waddle into the living room and sit down next to her, “let’s get sugary high and watch a bunch of movies!”
She chuckles and takes the 2L from me, “Alright, Caiden-kun, as you wish.” Pouring out equal amounts, she secures a top with straw on the mouth and hands the covered glass to me, “There you are, you know how you get when you’re excited. I don’t want you to spill the soda all over the couch.” Raising her glass, she smiles at me, “A toast, Caiden-kun, to our loving little family and forever being blessed by The Most High.”
“Cheers!” Clapping our glasses together, I crawl into my alternate’s lap and drain my soda while the movie Finding Nemo begins cruising across the TV, “I love you, Utsu-neechan!”
Ruffling my hair, she nods and takes a sip of her orange soda, “I love you too, Caiden-kun. Forever and always, baby bro, always and forever more.”
