Cheeyana 20th Anniversary
Here it is, twenty years later and there has never been a year when I don’t draw the powerhouse feline. Come to think of it… I can’t really believe it’s been that long since I’ve created her when I was (going on to) 10th grade! I don’t remember the precise date when I created Cheeyana, but I do remember it was in August 1994 when I drew her on a piece of computer paper while at my Aunt’s house for the summer. Therefore, I decided to say the 16th is her official birthday.
Cheeyana is my very first muscular female original character created. When I first designed her, I thought about making her an average built cheetah, but instead I decided, “Hey maybe I should give her some muscles… Make her a very strong character- nearly unstoppable or something like that!” I wanted to have a strong, bad-ass female anyways since I was already a female bodybuilder fanatic at the age of ten or eleven. I must confess that I had a hard time drawing her muzzle and coming up with a good hair design upon sketching Cheeyana! Oh jeez, once I get ahold of my “gold mine” of old drawings I did from way back when, I can show the horrors of her development.
Upon creating my cheetah anthro, I originally named her “Cheetara”, totally disremembering about the Thunder Cats’ Cheetara and her name. I stuck with that name for a while until my best friend reminded me of the kick-ass cartoon series and the character’s name. Nonetheless, I wanted to keep the “Chee” portion to represent the now “No Name Cheetah’s” species’ name, and add somewhat of an African touch to the suffix portion of it. Finally, I permanently changed the name to Cheeyana in 1998.
In 1996, I gave Cheeyana a much better design that looked canon enough to keep. Safe to say I’ve maintained and improved her appearance since then. Cheeyana is also the first character who would have a variation of hair-styles, preferably that of African tradition. I’ve always preferred keeping Cheeyana as tribal as possible rather than drawing her civilized. If she did appear in civilian clothes, it’s only because she is hanging out with Jerome who resides in Japan mostly and sometimes in the US. It’s very rare drawing her dressed in urban clothing or in ANY civilized clothing!
The last time I focused on anthros was in 1997 and from there had spent time drawing people (manga style). During that time, I would still draw Cheeyana and a few other anthros while the rest, I didn’t focus on at all since I was attentive in my original character human (manga) art that I usually draw. It wasn’t until 2009 that I went back to drawing anthros again.
Looking back at my sketchbook history, Cheeyana was actually THE most drawn character hands down. I loved drawing her so much that I had to buy some sketchbooks that are dedicated to drawing ONLY Cheeyana in them. That’s how much I’ve kept up with the cheetah over the years. All in all, from the day I’ve created her- all the way until my dying day, I will always draw Cheeyana!
When I first joined Fur Affinity, Cheeyana was more or less the reason why I got a couple of awesome watchers today! I stopped posting her for a month, Watcher rage faces appear! LoL No, just kidding- but she was a character who a few people know me of drawing at the time. And if it weren’t for
Xilimyth (via
DocWolph’s artwork) seen on Furtopia back in 2007, I probably wouldn’t have ever known of Fur Affinity. Because I could relate Cheeyana’s appearance to Xillimyth (minus the dragon breed in the dracat), I was interested in joining a furry community and diving back into drawing anthros once again at full swing. So yeah, thank them- especially Xilimyth for getting me back into drawing anthros and meeting you guys online and in person! XD I want to send a big hug to Xilimyth for inspiring me into joining FA as well as collaborating on a story we have worked on (and revised) for a while now. It's an honorary pleasure to work with another fellow cheetah!
So to close this special moment, this special day of one of my most favorite characters, I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for showing much love towards Cheeyana. I never thought that she would be of anyone’s interest, concern, or would even have a “crush” on her what so ever. My words can’t really describe how I feel about you all who have watched me over the years and liked Cheeyana! Thank you guys and gals! You. All. RAWK!! \m/

Thats amazing you created her that long ago! Respect points for not abandoning your character! I have seen so many people do that over the years in the fandom. I my character Raze is now going on to 6 years and I have no intention of getting rid of him. Congrats on your anniversary!
Man, time really does fly and I often be like, "WOW! It's been that long already??" That's sad that people would dro their characters over the course of time. But then again, I am sure its because they haven't done anything with them and/or created a solid story. When I created this character, I built a history and a world around her. Though I haven't touched her story in years, I do have a solid story set in stone of who and what she is all about. That there made me want to keep her for sure (and beside all that, I liked her design). It's great to know you will keep Raze- I mean Raze IS your fursona I presume? And I can sense that you have a connection with your character hence the conbadges, username, etc, etc... I know you aren't going to get rid of him in no way!
Ah, Cheeyana. She's still a beauty and Im sure she still will be when she hits 40! :P
I remember contacting ya soon after you had come to FA. We started talking, had fun and you even showed me some sketches you were making long before you posted them finished on FA, something I always appreciated.
I know we kinda have had a falling out for a few years now, but I do want to change that. It was great hanging out on YIM and we had some fun times.
As always, your work is freaking awesome and I look forward to see more. Especially of Cheeyana :3

Ah yes, I still remember! Yeah- we haven't talked in AGES but I know you were so busy with things over there and so was I... man I logged onto YIM I think last month and it looked like a ghost town because it seemed like everyone migrated over to Skype. I think I have you on there but even on that IM, I hardly ever log on to it >_<; Well- you can always catch me on streams during the weekend and I always talk on here X3 That's what I usually tell people when they want to add me on Skype. But yeah man, I totally appreciate you still keeping in contact after all these years and it's great to hear from ya again!
There's no doubt that I will draw Cheeyana in the future! X3

X3 Gimme dat RAWR DAMMIT!! (Silly inside joke
SilverfurredKage and I came up with during a conversation)

Haha, I was stoked to have you draw Cheeyana for our collab projects! Seeing the way you drew Tiffani (who I really admire and reminds me of Cheeyana but in her very own fashion), I was more than confident and surely enough you really did her justice! I still love the way you drew her in the first collab to this very day! It's always a honorary pleasure to work with you.
As soon as I am free from my to do list, I will be more than happy to do some trade(s).
Blaze150 even told me we should do some random pictures from the previous WB pics we did. I told him I thought of doing that for a while since 3 was put on hold. I was considering doing a trilogy style picture of all our characters together just hanging out lol Or just some from the first collab sparring with someone from the 3rd collab. Stuff like that. Ideas are just endless when it comes to that project XD

Wow time flies, twenty years of Cheeyana already? ( Of course I'm a johnny-come-lately, only having lurked your page around half the time it's been around ) so I suppose I'm one to talk. It's really awesome to see a character who's been devoloped, but seems to have had that same core all these years, even if the intro stuff is silly it would be neat to see, just to find tidbits you might have turned away then that might shine through in her more modern look... or maybe nothing at all, which in itself could still be informative, lol.
My mind always spins tales, the eternal epic story that I have only myself to blame for never using all of it, or getting it all tied down somewhere where it would make sense for others to show my character changing to my whims as part of the ongoing story. I can only wonder how much longer it will be till I could really say Rina deserves a true first birthday, let alone one from when I first did my own version of 'sketching' her.
You're one of the few people I see give their character a real birthday, and among those I think you're in the even smaller group who deserves to do so.
So Happy Birthday Cheeyana.

You're right, some old stuff can be "salvaged" for modern use as I would put it XD I actually do take some old things that I thought would be pointless and somehow mold it into something later down the road. If I can ever find time to drive up north to visit my auntie, I really would love to get a hold of my now "Gold mine" of old drawings since I haven't seen them in over 15 years! So it'll be a total happy reunion to see the horrors (in a joking way lol) of my old art and sitting down to read the old comics I did with my other anthros who my family (and friends in high school) loved reading X3 Leaving an old idea alone for years is like waxing off an old classic car that wasn't popular back in the day, but now is a legacy.
i was thinking something like this :

My OC in Death The Kid's position and Cheeyana in the position of the girl with a gun.
Not good ?

That's cool, but she wouldnt be holding a gun though lol. It's like drawing Batman with a gun- the picture wouldn't look right and the people who know the character knows better. Same deal with Cheeyana: People know she doesn't wield any kind of firearms nor know how to use one XD. Maybe a blade, sword, or something that isn't a firearm would make better sense. But other than that, the pose is just fine ^_^ But yeah, that is if you grab a slot and I do wish you the best of luck for it! Just remember to mash that F5!
Ah yes- I remember after posting one of her pics, I got your watch notification... a few pics later, Xilimyth. (Off subject but) It would be great to see your work again because I would love to finally do an art trade or commission you for a pic of Cheeyana in your style.
I have planned and been in process with a big project for Cassidy.
Remember the animal forms she have based on the chinese calendar?
That's only 1 of 4 sets of all the forms she will have once I'm finished.
Not to mention the stories I will make explaining how she got all of them.
Some bonus like the Cheetah-form (which you have drawn) will also be included in some of those stories. ^^

I remember first seeing this character a few years ago, when I first started out here. She is still awesome^^, can't believe that you created her 20 years ago, must feel like it was yesterday for you huh? I hope we get to continue to see more of her in the future^^. Keep up the impressive work^^.
LoL Yeah, it did actually. When I did her 15th anniversary picture, that felt like yesterday or better yet (lol) an hour ago! I will definitely keep on posting Cheeyana for everyone watching me. In time, after getting over this hill with Jamie's story, I will be focusing on the feline and the characters who are in her story. ^_^ Thanks again for watching after all these years too!
the time realy fly, increible desarrollo de personaje, me agrada como fuiste agregando distintas caracteristicas a cheeyana, personalmente creo que es una chica muy interesante con un diseño femenino pero al mism tiempo poderoso, Thanks for sharing Cheeyana's history with us Amigo, and happy birthday to her
Hey thanks a lot amigo! Todavía no puedo creer que han pasado 20 años desde que la creé her. Pero realmente aprecio su interés en Cheeyana y, sobre todo, the art trade you did which is increíble!
