Finally I figured out the if conditional statements on the arduino. The stuff you see in the picture is part of a project for a friend. Here's a hint about what it is. Those relays are used for making a drill go foreward, reverse, or stop. The solar panel is used for sensing the sunrise and sunset, and I live in the country. I seriously doubt anybody will guess it.

Yes! It will control the door to a chicken coop so my friend doesn't have to open and close the door for them every night and early morning. It's a long process but definitely a good place for me to start learning to code. I don't learn too well by doing the regular "hello world" type projects that everybody does, so I have to wait for the opportunity to start a project involving what I'm wanting to learn if I want to remember it for more than a few minutes. This is also the first time I've ever played with relay logic circuits, so I'm also learning that along with everything else.
Lol that reminded me of this: http://youtu.be/Lft51kJdDxc enjoy. The door won't be swinging out but instead will slide up and down in a track. The system will also have gravity locks to keep raccoons and other animals from opening the door at night.
I've been programming my Lego mindstorms NXT since I was 7 or 8 but that uses labview. I wanted to try learning text based programming, and so here I am. I think I might stick with it and keep developing but I doubt I will be able to learn enough about it to make a career from it.
