As many of you probably know the animated movie 'The Book of Life' directed by Jorge Gutierrez will be out in theaters October 17. The movie centers around Mexican folklore which hasn't had a fair chance in theaters unlike it's predecessors. The movie introduces two Mexican gods of the underworld, La Muerte and Xibalba. Now what's really interesting about the two gods is that in the movie they are a (Distant) married couple.
Anyway, before I reveal anymore spoilers about the film, I'm going to go ahead and introduce my OC character, La Llorona. Yes, I know that her name mean 'The Weeping Woman' and, yes, I took it from the legend but I didn't want to go with the typical choice for Mexican names like 'Rosa' and 'Antonio'. (Nothing is wrong with those names! I'm not saying that!)
La Llorona is one of the many children of La Muerte and Xibalba. She is neither the oldest or the youngest but is somewhere in between. (I'm not going to worry about her age since neither La Muerte nor Xibalba have a particular age) She is the surprising mix of both parent's personalities, looks and powers. With that being said, however, she has her own separate personality and powers as well.
Due to the meaning of her name, 'The Weeping Woman', and the legend behind it, La Llorona is a complex character. She isn't a spirit as the legend describes her to be but she still is a force to be reckoned with due to her lineage. (Not sure if that is the right word or not. Someone please correct me on that.) La Llorona isn't a downright cruel or evil deity, however, her main role is to lure children that are destined to die to her so that she can transport them to the underworld.
Like her father who loves to meddle into the affairs of humans, La Llorona has a bad habit of drawing men and paranormal teams to her only to scare them for her own amusement. However, there have been times where she as killed people because of their dark and twisted nature. She doesn't kill anyone without her parents say-so first of course. Afterall, no one likes to be in trouble with their powerful parents. XD
La Llorona can emit a loud cry that sounds like a cross between a wail and shriek. When an adult or child crosses her path, she will first make cooing sounds at them to draw their attention before wailing. Anyone who hears her cry are destined to die soon. If a specific child crosses her path and hears her scream, they will automatically be 'frozen' in place. Much to La Llorona's chargen, she'll then pick the child up in her arms and take them to a nearby source of water to drown them.
Once the child dies La Llorona will transport herself back to the underworld to met her 'child' at the entrance of 'The Land of the Remembered' to take them to meet with her mother, La Muerte.
As mentioned above, La Llorona isn't a downright cruel and evil being instead she is more a cross between a snarky and empathetic person. She doesn't show her soft side easily to anyone after so many years of doing her 'job.' When she does show her soft side it isn't for very long so, words of advice, say what you want to say and do it quickly, La Llorona doesn't like to waste her time on idle words.
Other facts:
1. La Llorona's hat is decorated with dried roses, short candle stubs, neck bones and red silk.
2. She inherited her father's green glow and wind up keys. However, her green glow and wind up keys runs down her spinal cord.
3. Her other means of protection and defense is a Blacksnake whip that she can pull out from under her poncho.
4. Her father gave a her a male Chupacabra whelp to have by her side whenever she went up to the surface to do her 'job.'
5. The length of her hair comes down to the middle of her back and goes from black to grayish-white.
~ End of character description.
Please remember that this character is not part of the movie but has been taken from the Mexican legend. If you have a question about the character or want to point out something to me, please feel free to do so.
No flames!!!

I saw the movie. It was crazy.
While I didn't go all fanboy for it, I did recognize that there is sequel potential hidden in it.
La Llorona would make a great character for a sequel. The producers will have their work cut out for them, though. No one would watch an animated movies with a specific focus on dying infants.

Yeah, no one would want to see that in a movie. >~<
La Llorona, personally, hates it when people, whether far away or not, watches her drown the child. It makes her lose focus and conscience of what she -HAS- to do.
Also, thank you very much for the compliment, ElectricBlue! It made my day!
